"Let me apologize for my mother’s conduct," Drigo uttered. "The event earlier left us stressed and confused. This is the first time that we opened our doors to both humans, witches, and shifters and then... this happened. Naturally, the Queen had a lot of things in her mind."
"I don’t— "
"She is going to leave." Drigo looked at his mother. Then he gave the woman a smile full of assurance. "She’s going to her quarters."
"Drigo— "
"It’s alright mother. I’ll be fine," Drigo said. Again, if Matthew wanted him dead. Then there is no way he would survive.
What was the point of fighting back? Right now, Drigo just wanted to keep his mother safe.
As if sensing his thoughts, Margery walked out of the room.
"You are one smart man." Matthew was still smiling as if he was simply watching a show.
"If you wanted us dead, you would have already killed us the moment you walked in." Considering that they didn’t even notice him.
Matthew was simply that strong.
"And here I thought you wanted to be King."
"I wanted to survive."
"Lies." Matthew leaned back. "You always thought you were going to become King since you were a child."
Drigo furrowed his brows. However, Matthew was telling the truth. Yes. He was right.
Drigo always wanted to become King. He was trained to become one even before Matthew was born. He knew the ins and outs of everything on this plane.
"Then I will make you King," Matthew uttered.
"You cannot do that."
"In fact... I can." Matthew smiled. "But you already know that. Don’t you?"
"I— "
"In the end, you get what you want while you serve the Lycans."
"You mean while I serve you."
"Pretty much the same in my book."
"So, you wanted me to become a puppet King."
"A puppet sounded too... harsh."
Drigo narrowed.
"And why would I agree?"
"Because that’s what you always wanted to be."
"Not a puppet King. No."
"How about this..."Matthew’s lips thinned. "You— work for me. As the King. You managed the plane and make changes. Be more involved, more active, and make the Lycans famous once again."
"So you will become the King?"
"You got it wrong. You are misunderstanding something." Matthew said. "I never wanted this throne. I never wanted to become King. I was forced to try because of some unpleasant circumstances."
"So you want me to work under you."
"As the King. You live as one, act like one, and die a King. Isn’t that what you always wanted?"
"You— "
"The respect. The fear. The pride. The crown. The power. The women. Ah...it was always the women, right?"
Drigo paled when he thought of how he wanted to have Ava in the past.
However, that lust quickly turned into disgust when Matthew beat him to a pulp. He was lucky he survived that ordeal!
"How does that sound?" Matthew looked around the room. "I am waiting for your decision."
"What?"
"And I... seldom wait for someone."
"If you want me to become King then... does that mean our father is already— "
"No. He is alive but unfortunately, he is not fit to rule the plane. What happened only showed his incompetence. He had been hiding in this place under the pretense of wanting peace from Humans. But by doing so, he had hidden the Lycans from all of the supernaturals. Right now, the supernaturals no longer respect us." Matthew said.
Matthew knew his strengths and one of them was how he could easily see someone’s desire and use it to manipulate people.
The best way to appeal to people is to give them something that they want instead of telling them to just follow your orders without rewards.
That would be such a useless waste of time.
"What’s in it for you? Are you planning to stay here?"
"Well of course. After all, this is my home."
"Two tigers— "
"What bullshit." Matthew snorted. "There is only one tiger in this mountain and that is me. You... are a little cat. Like a bobcat."
Drigo could feel his face flushed. But he held his tongue.
"That is not what I wanted to say," Drigo said. "If you live here, people are going to doubt my abilities. They have seen your strength and they would want you to lead them."
"And this is exactly why I chose you. I mean... I could choose our other brothers who aren’t on this plane. But I chose you. And that’s because.... You are the most capable one. You can prove to them that one doesn’t just need strength to rule. They need... whatever it is that you have."
Drigo frowned. For some reason, he felt that Matthew just insulted him but he couldn’t really pinpoint the insult.
"So you and Ava will stay here?"
"Miss Woods..."
"What?"
"You are not that close, no? Call her Miss Woods."
"Oh... Then Miss Woods. Is she going to stay here?"
"No. We will be traveling for our honeymoon."
"Your what?"
"Our wedding. We are going to visit— "
"You plan to wed a witch?"
"Well... " Matthew had an amusing smile on his face. "She would have to say yes before I marry her. But I plan to travel for our honeymoon so I won’t be able to stay in this place. However, I plan to come back once you have convinced everyone to stop enslaving the witches and— "
"That is impossible." Drigo shook his head again and again. "I love this plane. I love the Lycans and I am a proud Lycan Prince. But despite that, I know that I cannot just change everyone’s mind about the witches. This has been a tradition for centuries! How could I just convince them to let go of the witches and give them rights like... normal supernaturals?"
"Because they are normal supernaturals."
"If we do that. There will be a revolt."
"Then we just kill them."
"What?"
"Isn’t that simple?" Matthew snorted. "We just kill them and everyone else who would try to revolt against us."
