Her eyes widened. But before she knew it, Matthew already pushed her body towards the sand. Despite her magick, she wasn’t able to do anything to save herself from falling.
Not to Matthew but to the sand.
She closed her eyes and brace herself from the sudden impact then quickly realized that he was hugging her. She opened her eyes.
She was lying under Matthew.
Matthew was using his elbows to support him, to avoid crushing her body.
"You moron..." she hissed. Then she quickly frowned when she realized something. Matthew... could still move!
The spell was supposed to stop him from moving.
She stared at his silver eyes, about to ask him about the spell when she realized how close he was. Matthew was inches away from her face. She could feel his hot breath fanning against her cheek, she could see the beautiful flicks of gold and red on his silver eyes.
She swallowed her nonexistent saliva as her heart thumped loudly against her chest. Her eyes then moved towards his lips. She unknowingly moistened her own lips before letting out another gulp.
"What— what are you doing?" she asked. She had to.
She needed to say something or... or she would do something she might regret later.
"What do you think?"
Ava watched as the corners of his lips lifted into a sexy smile. She hated to admit that she quite liked it. Well... she hated to admit that she quite liked him.
She realized that slowly, she was becoming more and more accustomed to this new Matthew. And a part of her didn’t like that. The other part? Let’s just say it had been telling her to open her legs for him.
What a slut, she thought inwardly.
Was that wrong?
Who knows?
"Move away," she said in a voice that would never convince Matthew. It was too meek, too weak. She was aware it wouldn’t be enough. But she really couldn’t do anything against her racing pulse.
"And if I won’t?" he challenged.
She always knew he would say this! She wanted to argue and scare her with her magick. But she couldn’t not when butterflies are going crazy inside her gut.
He took a deep breath, inhaling her scent.
She shivered inwardly.
She continued staring at his angelic face. He looked perfect even if half of his face was shadowed. He looked perfect especially when he was this close to her.
Wait... what was she thinking?
The reminder of what happened to the real Matthew filled her head, interrupting her thoughts earlier.
Then Baba’s question followed.
If Matthew was a demon, is she willing to accept him?
Would she leave?
She blinked.
She... can’t leave. She wouldn’t.
"May I?" he asked.
"May I what?"
"Kiss you..."
Ava frowned. Why the hell was he asking?
As if sensing her thoughts, he chuckled.
"I have read somewhere... women these days needed their permission. It wasn’t something that existed thousands of years ago. Back then— "
"For crying out loud Matthew would you just kiss me?" she hissed, surprising both Matthew and herself.
He chuckled. Then without waiting for her to recover and rescind her words, he kissed her.
"Ahhhh!" Ava suddenly gasped. The sudden pain in her right shoulder surprised her.
"What happened?" he asked, panic apparent in his voice as he stopped the kiss and pulled her up.
"I— " Ava said nothing. Instead, she touched the right portion of her back just above her shoulder blades. "There was— " She was sure she felt something bit her or burned her. She wasn’t sure what it was but she knew it was painful.
It felt like something suddenly bit her.
Unsatisfied with her answer, Matthew suddenly ripped the back part of her turtle neck.
"What is it?" he asked when he didn’t see anything on her skin. The panic slowly disappeared. "What happened?" he asked.
"I felt like something burned my back." Ava frowned. She immediately noticed Matthew’s panic earlier. It wasn’t supposed to be like that. She wanted to ask him what the hell was that reaction all about but decided not to.
"Don’t mind it," Ava said. She wasn’t even sure if she really felt the pain. Maybe it was just her body reacting to Matthew’s kiss?
She looked at him and as expected the panic that he had earlier was no longer there. Perhaps she was only hallucinating? Or imagining it?
Maybe she was just too exhausted?
"Are you sure this isn’t just a scheme for me to rip your clothes in front of me?"
Ava’s face somehow reddened. This Matthew and the previous Matthew were fusing. It could mean that their memories are fusing too and well... they had too many memories about ripping her clothes.
Her cheeks burned.
How embarrassing.
"No one is allowed to step inside the whole reserve now that we are here," Matthew said.
"What?"
"We have the place to ourselves..."
His suggestive words only made her blush even more. Why the hell was she acting like a damn teenager in front of him?
"But we should go inside..." Matthew said, smiling.
"What?" Ava felt like her brain left her.
After all that... and he wanted them to stay inside?
"Oh?" Almost immediately, Matthew narrowed the small space in between them. He towered over her as he lifted an eyebrow. "Do you want to say something?"
"No." She shook her head as if her life depended on it.
"Are you certain?"
"No. I mean yes. I am certain. I don’t want to say anything."
She was fucking flustered.
Gosh.
She could feel her whole body burn under his gaze.
Her stomach was tumbling and this time, it wasn’t because she was hungry. Well, she was still hungry but not for food.
She gulped.
"Oh?" he leaned closer and she leaned back on instinct. Matthew held her waist and secured her body against his. "I can smell your lies Eve..." he whispered.
A sudden cold breeze made her shiver.
"So?" she quipped back. So what if she’s lying? What can he do about it?
He buried his face in her neck and for the second time, inhaled her scent.
"Well... I can smell how fucking wet you are."
