Priestess Anna is actually a hundred-year-old woman who looked like she was still a teenager.
The answer is magick.
The woman was known for her magick— anti-aging magick— that she used to create some cream and sell them to rich housewives that wanted to maintain their beauty.
As for the money, she gave everything to the chairman and the chairman used it to maintain the village.
It wasn’t a really large business but just enough for them to take care of the village maintenance. When the Chairman told them about introducing them to the Priestess, he told them this was nothing but an act of courtesy.
The Priestess was considered the oldest of the witches here. Because of this, it is only right that they pay her a visit just as they needed to visit the other oldest supernatural living here.
The Priestess was just their first stop.
Ava awkwardly glanced at the woman that just serve them tea. Earlier, the Priestess looked confused about Matthew’s presence but it didn’t take too long for her to apologize and started acting as if that never happened. She acted welcoming— overly welcoming and smiling— too smiling.
If she wanted to pretend that nothing is going on then she was doing an extremely bad job at that. If anything, her actions only made Ava curious and irritated.
Ava started to wonder if she was actually doing this on purpose to make her ask what was going on.
"The magick surrounding the villages had been very strong. I am confident that any rogues wouldn’t be able to get in without informing me or one of the witches. While rogues had been terrorizing some covens in Canada and even in the US, they aren’t as active here simply because of the barrier that we made." Priestess Anna said.
"However, I somehow agree with what you said about the sudden increase in their activities lately. During one of my travels just a couple of weeks back, the village that I was visiting in Europe talked about Rogues and their increasing presence in the area. I have advised them to secure their village with some magick barrier however, they don’t have enough witches to perform the spell. As you know, not many witches could easily create a barrier without requiring another witch’s help," Anna added as she glance Ava’s way.
"I have mentioned this to Matthew," Chairman Tanik said. "We never had any sightings of any rogue near the barrier before."
The chairman and Anna didn’t know about the attack that happened a few days back. So, they thought Matthew and the rest were just visiting because of Trillium.
Right... many of them knew Matthew but surprisingly, not many of them know that he is royalty. Right now, they thought it was Jude that leads the group and the rest were agents.
Of course, Priestess Anna might have a different opinion about this matter.
Ava looked at the Priestess. She couldn’t sense any emotion coming from her. Earlier, the Priestess didn’t even bother to hide her excitement about meeting Ava but she quickly changed her emotions when she noticed Matthew.
"Alright, since the Priestess doesn’t have any information about the rogues, we should go ahead and talk to the — "
"No," Matthew interrupted the Chairman. "I still have some business with the Priestess."
"Pardon me for saying this but not many— "
"I said— " Matthew looked at the Chairman. "I have some business with the Priestess."
"There is no need to intimidate someone weaker than you..." Priestess Anna spoke in a cold tone. "Chairman... since they still have some business with me it is best that you take the other two and leave."
"But— "
"I will be safe," Priestess Anna smiled at the chairman. "They will not harm me."
"Priestess— "
"Chairman? Please... listen to me."
The Chairman’s face darkened. He looked at Matthew then towards Jude, as if he wanted Jude to tell his subordinate to back down. But Jude said nothing.
After a minute of silence, he sighed and got up.
"Very well...everyone will be waiting outside."
Matthew snorted at that and Ava elbowed him. How could someone be so cocky?
Jude and Francheska hesitated but soon followed the Chairman out as well.
"Speak," Matthew started.
"You are not to order me around in— Ugh!"
**BANG**
Matthew didn’t hesitate to approach the priestess and held her slim neck, lifting her body a few inches above the floor. Then he pushed her body up against the wall.
"Matthew! Let her go!" Ava appeared on Matthew’s side. She had never seen Matthew act so irrationally! She couldn’t help the panic in her gut!
"Who are you!?" Matthew hissed, his eyes now scarlet red. "And how did you know we were coming?"
"Ugh— hmmm— "
"Let her go! She couldn’t talk!" Ava held Matthew’s arms and applied a little electricity on her fingers, hoping it would wake Matthew up.
But Matthew wasn’t having it.
He tilted his head, his eyes narrowed at the Priestess who was struggling to breathe.
"Matthew!" Ava applied more magick on her fingers. This time, Matthew looked at her, his eyes slowly turning golden. "Let her go!" she hissed. "For crying out loud! Let her go so she could answer you!"
**THUD**
Matthew let the Priestess go and that means, he suddenly dropped her on the floor.
Ava glared at him.
What an ass.
How could someone act like that?
She immediately helped the priestess who was now coughing. Still, Ava could feel Matthew’s dagger-like gaze toward them. freewebnoveℓ.com
He looked angry.
She couldn’t help but wonder if he was angry because she actually used her magick on him.
But this was not the time to think about that.
Ava rushed to the kitchen and gave the Priestess a glass of water until she was finally calm and able to speak.
A thick suffocating silence swallowed the room as none of them attempted to utter a single word.
"I did not think that you would attack a woman without any hesitation," Priestess Anna uttered. "But there is no need to apologize. I understand. You are doing this to protect her... aren’t you?" the Priestess looked at Matthew. "What I don’t understand is... how? How are you able to come here? You were betrayed by your own men, trapped and imprisoned in a different world. You were betrayed by your only friend. You were supposed to stay in that world forever. But here you are..."
"Cut the bullshit..." Matthew growled. He was keeping his distance but that didn’t mean he was hiding his suffocating anger toward the woman. "You have ten minutes to tell me why you knew her."
"I have never met someone who could overpower me in my own abode..." the Priestess ignored Matthew’s threats and looked at Anna. "I would like to apologize for showing this side of me."
"No it— "
Priestess Anna shook her head, interrupting Ava’s words.
"Please, accept my apology. I shouldn’t have done that. I have seen you in my dreams. I have watched your childhood, your heartbreaks, and your transition. I am someone that could read the past and use magick to see glimpses of what was about to happen. I have seen you." Priestess Anna frowned as she turned her attention toward Matthew. "But not him."
