"They claimed that I am their Alpha’s mate." The woman named Lyle said. "I thought it is important that you know the reason why they raised the amount that they are charging for keeping us safe."
"But you are not his mate?" freёwebnoѵel.com
"No. I would have felt it."
"How old are you this year?" Jude asked.
"I just turned twenty."
"I presume this isn’t the first time that he claimed someone is his mate?"
"You are correct. We have sent her another woman in the past. We have not heard from her since."
"I understand."
"Can you really keep us safe?"
"I cannot promise you that."
"But my father said that— " Lyle suddenly got up and removed her clothing which only surprised the two. Both Francheska and Jude stared at each other. "I am willing to give you anything as long as you keep us safe."
"I think you got this all wrong," Jude said. "Please leave this room, Miss Lyle. I have no interest in you."
"Then what about the Lycan?"
"What?" Jude’s expression changed. "What are you talking about?"
"I’ve heard stories. Legends about them. They... they don’t really find their mates easily so they— they accept offerings from werewolf packs."
"That is not true," Francheska said. "We are not like that."
"We?" Lyle’s eyes widened. "You are a Lycan?"
"Please put your clothes on Miss Lyle. I honestly don’t think you have something to offer here."
Lyle’s face reddened at Francheska’s calm comment. Contrary to other women, Francheska stared intently at Lyle’s body as if... she was curious. There was no malice in Francheska’s gaze— which was very rare considering most women would blush at the sight of another naked body.
"I apologize," Lyle immediately said as she covered herself. "It’s just that... I am desperate."
"We understand. We will do our best to help."
"Thank you." With that, Lyle left the room without saying anything else. The moment she closed the door, her expression darkened. In this pack, she was the most beautiful and desired woman. Even in front of Alpha John, she was called a rare beauty.
But in front of someone from Trillium...
She narrowed her eyes.
"How was it?" a woman wearing a hood said. She was standing not far away from Lyle, her head lower, making it impossible to see her features.
"I failed."
"I understand. Please follow me... your mother is waiting."
Lyle frowned. Her mother wasn’t actually the wife of Alpha Ramrin but was just a mistress. Since Alpha Ramrin’s wife never gave birth because of infertility, Lyle because the next Alpha. But the fact that her mother was not the one married to the Alpha still haunts her to this very day.
"Tell me everything that happened..." a weak voice echoed the moment Lyle entered her mother’s room. With that, Lyle started telling her mother everything including the attack and what she tried to do to get Jude Caro’s favor.
Not long after, she received her father’s summon. The one who delivered the message said it was an emergency so she immediately rushed towards her father’s side.
When Lyle saw that everyone else was there including Jude and the weird woman earlier, her expression turn worse.
"Father... why did you call us?" Lyle said.
"We are here because Mr. Caro is going to find the one who tried to take the children." The Alpha said. She eyed Matthew and then Jude. "Mr. Caro, I still don’t understand how are you going to catch the one who tried to take the children away? I mean... why would you even think that one of us was the culprit? We do not have magick and— "
"Alpha Ramrin..." Jude calmly said. "As I said... this is nothing but protocol. It is best to investigate everyone so we could rule out everyone’s involvement in the kidnapping. This is just the standard protocol for Trillium. I know that everyone is innocent but I still needed to do this for the rules."
"I— " the Alpha looked at Sammy. "Very well... I believe all warriors are already here. You may start."
**SNAP**
A loud snapping sound echoed. But before they could even turn around, everyone except Ava and her company lost consciousness.
"You can do that?" Francheska couldn’t help but praise Ava. She always knew Ava was powerful but to easily put everyone asleep? That should take a lot of talent and skills, right!?
Ava closed her eyes, and both of her hands were on her chest.
As Francheska wondered what is going to happen, a sudden feeling of loss filled her head. Confused, Francheska looked at Jude who was also frowning. The same feeling overcame Jude’s senses.
The two of them eyed each other before looking at Ava.
Ava looked solemn, her brows furrowed, her lips muttering some spell.
While this was happening, Matthew was calmly standing behind Ava, his eyes fierce and alert. It looked like he was ready to attack anyone that would approach her at any given time.
Then a cold gust of wind made its presence.
The thing is... there weren’t any open windows in this meeting place.
The small gust of wind increased its intensity until Francheska was forced to hold her hair to stop it from moving with the wind. Francheska tried to maintain her calm expression but the feeling inside her was too much to handle. Memories of her childhood and her mother slowly filled her head.
Unable to stop herself, tears fell down her cheeks.
The next thing she knew, Ava’s eyes were already opened. And it was ... pure white.
Horrified, Francheska tried to say something but another wind prevented her from saying another word. The wind was followed by another rush of sadness or misery. Francheska grew up alone and she didn’t really feel a lot of emotions from anyone around her.
But this feeling was very familiar as this was what she felt when... her mother died.
The next thing she knew, she was already sitting on the floor, clutching her chest.
Earlier, Matthew warned her that it would be devastating. That it would break her heart. But she told her she was strong. Nothing would break her. Even Jude assured Matthew that he too wanted to see whatever it is that Ava is going to do.
Both of them insisted that they were naturally strong. They do not need to sleep. They do not need to feel it in their dreams.
They wanted to know.
They wanted to see.
In the end, Matthew and Ava allowed them to stay away when they could easily take their consciousness away.
Francheska’s chest raised and fell. She could feel Ava and Matthew not far away from her but for some reason, she felt like she couldn’t actually touch them if she tried to. She felt like she was drowning, her body floating down into an endless abyss.
The emotions rushed inside her brain then her chest. It was as if someone actually ripped her heart apart and then put it back inside her body.
It was too devastating, she could feel her chest physically hurt from the feeling of loss. Slowly, the wind grew stronger and she felt Jude’s arms around her. Just like her, he was a mess.
But he still did his best to hold her, to try and protect her from whatever it is that was coming.
"It’s here!"
Francheska thought she heard Matthew’s voice. But she was too tired, too spent to even look.
All Francheska wanted was to see... yet she actually felt like her heart broke into tiny little pieces.
