Chapter 371: Missing Children 8

"You should have warned us!" Francheska couldn’t help but complained when she walked inside Matthew and Ava’s room. Of course, she only came here because the two finally allowed her in.

After the event last night, the rest of the things that happened were just a blur to Francheska. She felt like she was watching a movie that has been forwarded very fast. The next thing she knew, the others who fell asleep woke up and acted as if nothing happened.

Then Matthew and Ava left.

Exhausted, Francheska and Jude went inside their room to rest.

"What was that? I have never felt anything like that before."

"That is not the important thing right now," Matthew answered them. "We needed to leave. The Phantom that we were looking for is not here."

"I thought— "

"We were wrong," Matthew said. "Send a message to Alpha John to tell him we are coming."

"Alright," Jude said without even asking questions. By now, he was already used to Matthew’s orders. And even if he wanted to complain, there is no way that he could win in an argument or a physical fight against Matthew.

All he knew is the fact that Matthew would take care of the rogues.

And that is enough.

Jude left and soon, Francheska followed her out. Of course, Francheska couldn’t help but complain as Ava and Matthew were both tight-lipped about the matter.

What she didn’t know was the fact that Ava wasn’t saying a word because she was so exhausted, she felt like her body would just shut down anytime.

Matthew explained that this was because she over-exhausted her magick and all she needed was rest. When Ava woke up again, Matthew immediately explained what happened the other night.

It turns out that the phantom actually arrived but it didn’t try to possess anyone in that room. It tried to possess Ava instead. And that was the real reason why her magick quickly ran out.

Luckily, Matthew was there to protect her.

Though they weren’t able to capture the phantom, they were able to conclude that the person who told the phantom to steal children was not someone from the shadows or someone nearby. It is just from this realm. It wasn’t as strong as someone from the shadows whose ability was from the thousand of years of resentment.

And that was the reason why the Phantom tried to possess a stronger body just like Ava’s.

"Resentment, huh..." Ava said. Matthew already told her that someone from the shadow realm’s ability was from their resentment that had built up over the years of dying and repeating everything over and over again. It wasn’t exactly, science or nature or demonic qi. It was just resentment.

"So... if the person who told this phantom to steal children is not from the shadows then... how were they able to command it?"

"Resentment," Matthew’s answer came quickly. "Someone like you or me could have resentment. It is an emotion that anyone... even humans can have."

"You just made the rest of the people in this world a suspect," Ava chuckled as she drank her food— something that Matthew just gave her. She wasn’t even sure what it was as it was the first time she saw a black soup without any signs of vegetables or meat.

She figured it was some sort of medicine as her body actually felt lighter after she started drinking it.

Still, she couldn’t help but stop and think about this. Phantoms shouldn’t exist in this world. But that stopped when people from the shadow realm were able to cross into this realm. And now... someone else who isn’t from the shadow realm can actually use the phantoms?

What does this mean?

Well... it means they now have an even bigger problem!

"I have asked Jude to compile all information of abductions all over the world. This time, I asked him to include any shifters and witches missing report."

"All over the world?" Ava bit her lower lip. Yes. The scope of the case just became a thousand times bigger. Now, they aren’t just looking at the rogues. They are looking at the whole supernatural race.

"I think someone is deliberately doing this..." Ava said. "Someone wanted to make the packs hate the village where Chairman Tanik and the rest live. This created a divide among the supernaturals." United we stand. Divided we fall.

The concept was rather simple.

And yet it was so complicated.

"We should visit Rock Growlers," Ava said.

.........

"Jude Caro?" Alpha John glared at his Beta who just reported Jude’s Caro’s message. "Why would someone from Trillium come here?"

"Perhaps because of the rogues?"

" Thought we stopped all the reports from reaching Trillium?"

"Perhaps it was that village?"

"Tsk— " Alpha John got up. He then stared at his appearance against the glass windows of his office. He had started losing his hair. While it was still black, he couldn’t stop himself from hating his receding hairline.

He was still in his late forties!

How could his hairline recede when he was actually a werewolf? His healing capabilities are faster and stronger than everyone else!

And yet, here he was. Thinking about his damn hairline!

He clenched his jaw.

"Tell me about the village..." he said.

"Our people cannot go inside as it was still surrounded by this fog. We have sent animals and were able to confirm that it was poisonous."

"If they wanted to accept more people, why make the fog poisonous? Have you spread all the rumors?"

"Yes."

"Good. Tell them to observe. We need to know what is going on inside the village." They have spies inside the village but the fog was preventing them from going out and sending any messages.

"For now, just accept Jude Caro and his people," Alpha John said. Saying no to Trillium would only raise more suspicions. And suspicions are bad.

It is not only bad for the business but for his whole pack.

"Prepare luxurious rooms and women. Many women. Lions love to fuck, don’t they?" Alpha John chuckled.
