Irritation reared its head.
His secretary didn’t tell him that Jude was in some kind of relationship with another one at their party. This immediately ruined her mood. But then again, he still needed to confirm things.
"Mr. Caro..." Francheska stood behind Jude.
"And this is?"
"Francheska my personal secretary."
"Oh..." Alpha John nodded in understanding. "Very well... I would like to talk about the reason why I came to visit. Though, I am wondering if I could talk to you in private?"
"Private?" Jude lifted an eyebrow. The last time someone asked to talk to him in private that someone removed her clothes for him. It was very disturbing as Francheska actually teased him the whole night. It was honestly very exhausting as well. Jude loved sex. And his job came with that.
However, since meeting Francheska, his preferences had changed. But what Lyle did earlier made him hesitant about these private talks.
"It’s fine. You can say whatever it is that you want in front of my secretary."
"Very well..." Alpha John said. He gestured for his secretary and Sonia to leave which honestly surprised Jude. Still, he chose to trust Francheska and let her stay by his side.
"It is about your father."
Almost immediately, Jude’s expression changed. He looked at Francheska and the latter nodded. She left on her own accord.
After making sure that Francheska closed the door, Jude looked at Alpha John.
"Have you met my father?"
"The head of the Caro Family... " Alpha John smiled. This was the reaction that he was waiting for. "I have met him a lot of times. Still, we are not considered close friends."
"I see— " Jude swallowed. Hard. His father was currently in Trillium prison along with some other important people. However, until now, they still didn’t have any verdict as the investigation about their involvement with the Hybrids didn’t go anywhere. Jude suspected it had something to do with the fact that the one behind it was very well connected.
He suspected someone on the higher-ups but couldn’t really prove it. Still, the fact that his father and his peers were already in prison was a relief. Jude was always someone who grew up with high ambitions. And he would do everything for his dreams.
He was just like his father. The only difference was the fact that he had his own boundaries. He grew up both loving and hating his father and because of that, he established his own limitations.
He dreamed of a lot of things.
Sitting on top of Trillium is just one of those things.
Becoming the family patriarch was just another one of them.
His ambitions were high.
But he isn’t going to abandon his conscience to accomplish them. He wanted to show his father that he could still achieve something despite his morals.
Of course, he wouldn’t dare say this in front of Ava. The latter would probably laugh at him because of his already questionable morals.
"And the reason why you mentioned him?" Jude asked, a little irritated at the knowing smile on Alpha John’s face. This man was a werewolf yet he looked like a cunning fox!
"I have heard rumors about the real reason why your father left Trillium." Alpha John said. "Interesting... reasons."
"Rumors are rumors for a reason," Jude said. Trillium had asked everyone to keep what happened a secret. However, some people still heard that his father was currently being detained by Trillium. The thing is, there are various rumors about the real reason for this detention.
"But the fact that you are just like your father is not," Jude said. "I heard that Lions devour each other... do you think that is true?"
"Only at desperate times..." Jude said. "And we only devour the oldest one. We tend to protect the cubs and the lioness." A smile appeared on his face. "Though I am not so sure why you would mention this?"
"Oh don’t mind me. I got a little curious. You see... your father and I used to work with each other in the past. I was just trying to determine if you are someone strong enough to be your father’s replacement."
Jude snorted at that. "I have never heard of him working from someone in Canada. However, my father and I are never close. He used to work a lot and I grew up with my mother. He is my father but I wouldn’t sacrifice my life to protect him. I am going to assume I have never heard of this Alpha John."
Alpha John narrowed his eyes. Clearly, he wasn’t too happy about Jude’s words. Jude was already distancing himself from his father! This isn’t a very good sign.
"How sinister." Alpha John said. "It seems that I was wrong. You aren’t just like him. You are more frightening than him."
"What are you saying?"
"In this world, you need someone with resolve. Someone who would do everything to achieve their goals. Someone cold-hearted. Someone like you." Alpha John said. "Work with me, Mr. Caro. And I would give you something that you want."
Jude blinked. Then he blinked again.
"Something that I really want?"
"Yes. I hope whatever it is that I am going to show you will stay inside this room." Alpha John got a small pocket knife and then used it to cut his arm. In front of Jude, his arm started to bleed. But after a few seconds, the bleeding stopped. The wound started healing at an astonishing pace.
"That— " Jude’s eyes widened.
"Something that your father and I have been studying. Obviously, the only reason why I revealed this is because I am confident that the people I am working with would stop you from spreading this information. Of course, this is only if you would try something funny."
Seeing the surprise on Jude’s face, Alpha John added.
"I am a very direct individual. I like what I like and hate what I hate. Now... I am showing you goodwill because I like you. Work with me. Together we will make our species stronger and faster than the rest. What do you think Mr. Caro?"
