Chapter 380: The Fake Mate 2

Ulva narrowed her eyes at Margery. She continued staring at the now-closed door for a few more minutes before a sigh left her lips.

The reason why she chose Margery was that she was but a naive little girl. She didn’t come from a strong maternal family and was easily flustered by huge events.

She recalled Margery and the King’s meeting for the first time. Margery blushed so much that she looked like a tomato.

But this wasn’t the only reason why she chose her.

Ulva chose Margery because she didn’t have a dominant personality on the outside yet scheming on the inside. With this, the other women in this harem couldn’t get too close to the King. She was the exact opposite of Matthew’s mother.

However, Margery had changed.

The woman that Ulva once knew was now gone into thin air. Right now, Margery is this strong Queen who had ruled along with her husband for decades.

And this was Ulva’s first mistake.

She should have killed her and didn’t give her the time to flourish and develop into the woman she is now. She narrowed her eyes and soon disappeared from her room. When she appeared, she was already inside the King’s abode.

"You look like hell," Ulva said. She immediately noticed the stench inside the room. It smelled like meat— rotten meat.

"I am dying."

"I am well aware."

"I have to find a new body."

"Where?" Sadly, Matthew was watching their every move. Ulva didn’t know how or what method was he using to watch them. All she knew was that something is watching them from the shadows.

And that can only be Matthew.

She walked towards the bed. Despite the darkness, Ulva arrived in front of the King’s bed without any hindrance. This wasn’t her first time visiting him. Though she wasn’t too sure if this would be the last time she would see him.

"Even if this body dies... you will still exist," Ulva said. As an entity that is unable to enjoy this world, unable to eat, unable to sleep. "Soon, we will find another stronger body."

The King snorted. By now, half of his face started to rot. Flesh and maggots mixed with blood immediately caught Ulva’s attention. People from the shadows never die a normal death. Well... they can’t really die as even if their physical bodies die they would still exist. However, this fact would never spare them from the pain of dying.

"Your wife is creating another ruckus— " Ulva said. But she wasn’t able to finish her sentence when she felt something creeping toward her. She immediately turned around, magick flickered in her fingertips.

"Glad to see you two alive..."

Ulva frowned and released her magick when she saw Matthew walk out of the darkness. The man was wearing an all-black suit, his eyes were red and the smug smile on his face was enough to tell her that he didn’t come because he missed them.

"Did you really want to see him suffer? You could kill him, end his misery and let his soul go." Ulva said.

"What he does with his physical body is none of my business Ulva," Matthew said. He looked back and a shadow appeared with... a chair in hand.

Ulva stared as Matthew took a seat. He was acting as if he was watching some opera!

"I presume you didn’t just come here to watch him rot?"

"Why not? This man has made my mother suffer. He made me suffer."

"That wasn’t you."

"That was half of me," Matthew smirked. "It is only right that I get some sort of... justice for the aggrieved party."

Again Ulva frowned. This Matthew was a bit different but she couldn’t pinpoint what exactly is different about him. There was just something about his... gaze that gave her goosebumps.

Ah...

Ulva found out what it was.

Matthew had become stronger.

The last time that she saw him, he wasn’t that strong.

Now, she could practically feel his suffocating abilities. It felt like the darkness is going to remove her sense of sight if she stared too long.

She turned her head away.

"Drigo was doing his part of the bargain. He had been trying to change the laws about slavery. Sadly, it caused chaos inside the plane. It has been tense since he insisted to give everyone rights, including the witches."

"I know," Matthew said.

Then why the hell did you come? Ulva asked herself inwardly. Of course, she couldn’t just utter these words to him. He would probably let his darkness devour her until she would no longer exist.

After all, this was Matthew’s strength.

The darkness. The shadow.

"The Rogues..."Matthew said. "Tell me what you know about them."

"I don’t know anything about them."

"You cannot lie to me."

"I am not lying. We are not focusing on rogues." Ulva said. "Though I cannot tell you the specifics of the experiments because of the oath, I can assure you that we are actually not the ones responsible for the sudden increase of the strength of the rogues. At least not directly."

"Oh?" As expected, her words piqued Matthew’s interest. Sadly, she couldn’t say anything more because of the oath that she had to take to be able to secure this body.

When Ulva and the King first came here, the one who gave them this body was someone so powerful. Sadly, she couldn’t remember his or her name or what she or he looked like because of this oath. She could hear his or her voice but would soon forget if it was the voice of a man or woman.

And Matthew knew this as well.

He had tried to torture her, force her to break the oath but that would literally mean she would explode and die. In the end, Matthew stopped and gave her a chance to live. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"So there are other groups. I was right. You have been planning to rule this world for a long... long time now. "

"You have met them?" Ulva couldn’t help but ask. She never told Matthew about those people. So this only means that he had met one of them! The ones are responsible for experimenting with rogues!
