Chapter 381: The Fake Mate 3

"I have talked to Ulva," Lady Margery told her son the woman she walked inside his study.

"It is late mother, why have you come?" he asked, ignoring his mother’s previous remarks when she arrived.

"I just told you. I came here to inform you that I have talked to the Priestess."

"Well... thank you for informing me."

"Aren’t you going to ask why I talked to her?"

"I know it’s about the witches."

"So you are well aware," Margery narrowed her eyes towards her son. "And yet you are not changing your mind."

Drigo stopped writing and looked at his mother. "You came here to convince me to stop this?" This was probably the umpteenth attempt of his mother to stop him. "Aren’t you tired mother?"

"Tired? I would never get tired of protecting you."

Drigo said nothing. Obviously, he was well aware that his mother had her own goals too.

"You came without your witches..." Drigo said. "Do you want me to walk you back to your palace?"

Margery suddenly glared at him. "I want you to stop whatever this is that you are doing, your majesty," she said. "As my King and my son. I want you to stop it for your own safety."

"We already talked about this— "

"No." Margery interrupted him. "You do not understand. You are already the King of this plane and Matthew is no longer here. You need to do everything to achieve the support of the noble families. Instead, you are trying to make them your enemies!"

"Again..."

"Here me out. Just this once!" Margery said.

"I heard you mother. I have been hearing you since the first time I told you about my plans."

"No, you aren’t. If you are then you should have stopped these nonsensical actions by now! But you didn’t! You are still insisting that this is for the good of everyone! How could it be like that? The witches are our slaves. That has been the tradition. Why would you do something that would threaten your reign?"

"Because I have to."Or Matthew will kill him. It was that simple.

"You have to?"

"Yes. I have seen the outside world mother and I knew that if we wanted this plane to progress, we needed to make some changes. Something that would make us even stronger."

"Do you really think freeing the witches and giving them equal rights to ours would help us become stronger?"

"Let’s be honest mother, our strengths are in the state of being stagnant. We rely too much on their help. We aren’t as powerful as we were in the past because of our witches."

"How could you blame the witches? They are born to be our servants! Our helpers! They are meant to protect us!"

"They have been protecting us for so long..." Drigo said. "Now we have forgotten to protect ourselves without their help."

"You— "

"I am not going to change my mind. You can hate me but that wouldn’t change anything. I am the King and the ruler of this plane. My interest is for the whole plane to become stronger. I hope you will stop raising this matter and understand that I have made my decision a long time ago."

"You— "

"Have a good night mother. I hope you have a wonderful sleep."

Margery narrowed her eyes at her son. However, the latter was already looking at the papers in front of him. Seeing this, she harrumphed and got up. Then left the room without even saying goodbye to her son.

"You worry too much..." a voice suddenly echoed inside Margery’s head. She turned around and made sure that she was alone before she answered.

"I told you not to surprise me like this."

"I simply cannot take your stupidity."

"I care for my son!"

"You only care about his throne"

"That throne is rightfully his! If he continues— "

"We can just kill the witch," the voice suggested.

"You are seriously underestimating Ulva."

The voice snorted. "Very well... since this is what you wanted then go ahead and continue pestering him about this matter."

"I wanted him to secure his reign." Matthew is still alive. Meaning, he could take back everything that was given to Drigo at any moment. How could she allow something like that to happen?

However, her very own son is making it harder for her. Drigo had been changing his mind and had forgotten their plans in the past. Now, he wanted to abolish the system that they have been used to since ... forever.

Obviously, this created a rift between Drigo and the noble families.

With this, Margery found it hard to actually focus on her plans against Matthew.

First, she needed to make sure that her son is safe. Then she would do everything to kill that man!

.....

Drigo could only sigh the moment his mother left. He had expected such a reaction from everyone else. But expecting it and seeing it are two different things. Since he announced his plans, tensions and arguments have become a norm.

Even his wives had started arguing against him. At one point, he started thinking if he actually did the right thing. In the end, he could only sigh.

What was done is done.

There is no coming back from that.

"You surprise me..."

Drigo flinched when he heard Matthew’s voice. He looked this left and narrowed at the smug Matthew.

"YOU surprised me," Drigo said, sarcasm thick in his voice. "Are you here to mock me?"

"Perhaps?" Matthew gave a nonchalant shrug. "Or maybe I just wanted to see my brother... who knows?"

"You really are a jerk."

"My... it seems that you have learned some new words to call me. Was this a development in our... relationship?"

"There is no development. You asked me to do this and now everyone is against me."

"But you agreed to do it, no?"

"That’s because I have no other choice!"

"I gave you one. It’s just that... you didn’t like the alternative." Matthew said. "You are indeed comical. Who would have thought that you would actually blame me for the consequences of your own choices?"

Drigo said nothing as Matthew was actually right. Drigo just wanted to blame someone other than himself and well Matthew is here. So... why not?

"I have heard good things about you..." Matthew said.

"Ulva told you," Drigo uttered. Ulva had been helping him with everything. Basically, the only reason why no one actually dared to assassinate him was because of Ulva. For that, he was grateful.

"Let me tell you a story..." Matthew smiled as he walked closer until he was already in front of Drigo. Then Matthew turned and sat on the table in front of Drigo. "There was once a King who cannot be bothered to deal with his harem. So... he told his witch to find someone scheming that would take care of his harem for him. He wanted that woman to kill the women in his harem and save him the hustle of pretending that he liked them."

Drigo frowned but he listened.

"The witch found a strong woman... scheming with a kind smile. Then she made the woman believe that she was the King’s mate." Matthew continued.

"What are you talking about?" Was he talking about his mother and father?

Ignoring his question, Matthew continued. "What do you think will happen if the woman discovered this... secret?"

"Are you telling me that my mother and father aren’t..."

"The ones born from mates are the strongest," Matthew smiled then he asked. "You should know that. You have studied everything about Lycans. At one point, you even believed that you could meet your mate even without leaving this place."

"You— "

Matthew shrugged then he got up and walked away.

"You should use that story... if you want to strike then strike their weakness and strike hard. The harder the better. And you have to strike first or you will lose. In our world, losing can only mean one thing, your majesty so... be careful."

Drigo opened his mouth, he wanted to argue but Matthew was no longer there. He blinked and examined his study. There were no signs of Matthew.

How could it be?

Isn’t he a Lycan?

Was that teleportation?

No. That’s impossible.

Drigo got up and trace Matthew’s steps. He knew that Matthew is very quick. Perhaps he just...

Once again, he examined the room. To no avail. All the windows and doors are closed.

"What was that just now?" he couldn’t help but asked himself. He knew that Matthew is stronger and more powerful than him but this? This is something new!

He hasn’t met any Lycan that could teleport!

However, this show of power somehow sent some relief inside him. Matthew was stronger than any Lycan he had ever met. This only means that he made the right choice.

His stupor was interrupted when the door inside his office burst open. It was his first wife.

"What happened?" Drigo asked.

"The— Queen Mother just asked our people to arrest Priestess Ulva." freēwebnovel.com

"For what?"

"For poisoning the previous King!"
