"So you have made your decision," Alpha John smiled. The sun hit his face, casting a beautiful glow that made him look divine. He took a quick sip of his coffee and let his face bask in the sunlight as he closed his eyes.
"I did," Jude said as he maintained a calm facade. Despite his lack of sleep, he still looked handsome in his white suit and cordial smile. He looked at the Alpha who was enjoying his coffee outside when he arrived. The Alpha asked to have breakfast with him alone.
And while he expected him to give him a lavish breakfast, he didn’t expect the man to openly do it knowing that Jude had company. He actually asked his people to take Jude to the garden located near the pack house.
However, this also allowed Jude to tour the place.
Just as he expected, this place was massive. It had many houses, and many of them looked European. The pathways were made from cobblestones and flowers were everywhere even though winter is coming.
He looked around and started to wonder if this was somehow made by magick.
"The flowers are created by magick," Alpha John said when he saw him looking at the roses near them. "A long time ago, a lovely witch lived here. She proceeded to cast some magick into this place. The winter wasn’t as harsh as the rest of Canada. Though, we still get snow."
"However, that witch really loved flowers so... she use an ancient magick to keep the land fertile forever, making everything on it alive even if it was winter. But this doesn’t apply to the rest of the territory," he added.
"I see..."
"So... I am going to assume that you agree to work with me?"
"Do I even have a choice?" Jude asked. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
This made the Alpha laugh with glee. "I didn’t mean to laugh," the Alpha said. "Fret not. I have not told anyone about you coming in here.... Yet."
"So you plan to tell them if I say no?"
"Yes." Alpha John said. "So they could deal with you. You must understand that certain measures should be taken to keep everything a secret."
"And by certain measures..."
"That means killing you." Alpha John said without hiding it. Still, the smile on the Alpha’s face didn’t disappear. "Or blackmail. Anything."
"So it’s either I die or work for you."
"With..." Alpha John said. "I would rather you use the word with than for. After all the latter sounded like I am going to enslave you. I am not that kind of monster."
"Right," Jude didn’t hide the sarcasm in his voice. "So the experiments...."
"We will go there soon..."
"What do you mean?"
"As I said, there are certain measures to be done. Please be more patient. I know you are curious but I cannot talk about specifics without insurance."
"Insurance?"
"Of course," Alpha John scoffed. "Did you perhaps expect that I would let you work with me without some sort of insurance policy?"
Jude gritted his teeth. The thing is, he already knew that this would happen before he came here. Still, hearing it made him irritated. Right now, Jude was certain that doing dirty work wasn’t his thing.
Don’t get him wrong. He is not innocent or a hypocrite. He was not someone good either. However, working with people like the Alpha made him disgusted. If Ava didn’t promise to follow him around, he wouldn’t have agreed to come here!
"For now, let’s enjoy our breakfast. I especially prepared it for you."
Jude had no choice but to eat some croissants and have some coffee before the two of them went back to the pack house.
This time, Alpha John took him to the basement where a secret door was located. After entering the secret door, the Alpha took him to an elevator. Soon, they arrived inside a secret underground base.
Jude frowned at the white LED lights that lit up the hallway. Coupled with the white paints and the absence of decor, the place made him feel as if he walked inside some sort of sci-fi movie.
"You are experimenting on your own basement?" he asked.
"Is there something wrong with keeping the things that I value, close?" Alpha John said as they started walking forward. Not long after, they arrived in front of a large mechanical door where Alpha John did all the security measures to be able to access what was behind the door.
A hissing sound echoed and the two of them walked inside.
This time, the place was a little different. It had glass walls and...
"You told me you didn’t take the children!" Jude hissed when he saw ten or more children inside the box-like room. There were no beds just a toilet and a sink. Food and water were scattered all over the floor and the kids were sitting in the corner.
Upon closer examination, he realized that there were only three kids in each room.
"I didn’t take them..." Alpha John said. "But I didn’t say I didn’t keep them, did I?"
"You— "
"Does this bother you? These kids are... the weaker kinds."
"Who took them?" Jude’s face was ugly. He couldn’t stop it. No matter how much he tried to stay calm, he couldn’t just pretend that this is alright!
"I cannot answer that."
Jude gritted his teeth.
"Now, you pick a room."
"What?"
"I just asked you to pick one room."
"Why?"
"As I said... insurance policy."
Jude’s eyes widened. "What are you talking— "
"Pick a room and kill everyone inside the room, Mr. Caro. Once done, I will take you to where the experiments happen." Alpha John smiled. "Please understand that this is just a simple insurance policy to make sure that you won’t betray the cause."
"I wouldn’t— "
"Words are empty Mr. Caro. I want actions." Alpha John’s smile became wider. "Actions Mr. Caro. Actions."
With that, he walked away.
"I will give you an hour to do it. I will come back once it’s done. Cameras are everywhere and this place can only be accessed by me and my staff. But I’m sure you already know that... after all, you are a very smart man. Just like your father."
