Chapter 385: Insurance Policy 4

Ava was frowning as she looked at Jude.

"You don’t trust me?" she asked.

"No, I just..." Jude swallowed all the words that he wanted to say. The thing is, he wasn’t really used to scenes like that. True, he is currently the head of the northern America base of Trillium but he had never actually done some fieldwork in the past. Unlike Ava, his father asked him to tackle more political cases to boost his career.

"You haven’t seen something like that," Ava nodded. Opposite her was Francheska who was also in a very bad mood after she heard Jude’s words. Matthew was nowhere to be seen.

"Have you?" Francheska asked.

"I did."

"I heard you did some things before you left Trillium."

Ava smiled. "As a matter of fact, I did."

"How did you feel about it?"

How did she feel? The answer is nothing. It was just a part of her job. "Sad?" Ava said. Saying that she felt nothing while watching all those people die would be too cold.

"You are lying," Francheska said. "I can smell it."

Ava wanted to laugh at that but the conversation was too serious for that. For some reason, talking about her past experiences always made her awkward. She knew that doesn’t make any sense. But... it was the truth.

"I felt nothing," Ava said. "We did our best to help people, save people. We killed the enemies and rescued the oppressed. At the end of the day, I did my best. There is no regret or— "

"Have you seen something as horrible as that before?" Francheska couldn’t help but ask.

"Yes." And Ava answered without batting an eyelid. "I have seen things that would normally make people nauseous. But it was a part of my job."

Francheska and Jude looked at each other without saying anything.

"That man needs to die," Francheska said.

"I agree."

"But we can’t just kill him without raising suspicions. By now, he must have informed everyone of our presence."

"Or not," Ava said.

"What?"

"Perhaps he didn’t want the other Alpha to know that you are here. After all, you are considered one of the biggest names in Trillium right now. Plus, he also wanted you to work with him. So... maybe he just wanted to know your answer before he decides his next move." Ava explained.

"That made sense," Jude said.

"Anyway... there are no rogues nearby or in this area. I suspect that the rogues attacking the other villages are rogues who have somehow escaped the laboratory. The rest of the rogues should be in another lab." Ava said.

"He would soon take me to the lab," Jude said.

"And I would take the opportunity to destroy it."

"What?" Jude’s eyes widened. "How would that solve anything? It would only destroy his trust and he would suspect— "

"Which is why... I am going to destroy it while you are still inside." Ava smiled. She wasn’t in a very good mood at all. Matthew actually left last night. He promised to come back but... where the hell is he now?

That man actually left! He left her there after what he did!

She narrowed her eyes as she thought of the things he would do to him! Tying him up should be fair, no?

Should she prepare some whip? Some blindfolds and gag would be nice too.

Seeing the sinister glint in her eyes, Jude shivered.

"You wanted to destroy it while I am still inside?"

"Of course. To avoid suspicions, we need to do it while you are inside."

"What if... what if you— "

"You are a werelion. You really think you wouldn’t be able to outrun the others?"

Jude gasped in surprise. He couldn’t believe what he just heard.

"You should be thankful that I even warned you. I was planning to surprise you. But seeing how shaken you were because of what happened, I changed my mind."

"So I should thank you for informing me that you are planning to bury me alive?"

"I am not going to bury you alive. Which is why... I am giving you this." Ava handed him a pen.

"An enchanted pen. You can use it as a sword and it would help you inside the facility."

"You— what about the kids? What about— "

"I will take care of that. Creating an illusion is easy." Ava said.

"You— " he looked at Francheska. "Are you hearing this? This is the reason why I didn’t want you to accompany them. Matthew is already crazy. This woman is simply different!" He got up and raked his hand against his hair.

He didn’t know what to say.

"You are overreacting."

"The hell I am!" Jude hissed. "Burying the whole facility is simply too obvious! How could you even think about something as crazy as that?"

Ava said nothing. She continued smiling. "I don’t think Jude. I just do it."

"You— "

"This is the only way to save the rest of the children without raising any suspicions," Ava stated.

"No, I think we should approach this in a more... logical way."

"Actually, I agree with her," Francheska said. "Plus, we will save you. So...."

"Save me?"

"I am supposed to be your guard. Isn’t it my job to save you?"

"You too?" Jude looked at Francheska as if she was of the same species as Ava. How could it be like this? Jude thought inwardly.

The two women in front of him actually wanted to destroy this whole place?

"What about the innocents?" Jude asked. "His pack mates..."

"Did you really think they were innocents?" Ava snorted. "Perhaps you didn’t notice it but I did. That beautiful garden that surrounded this place? It wasn’t just some magick. It was an evil one. The ones used to fertilize the place were bones..." Ava said. "Humans and shifters and witches were used to keep this place beautiful."

Ava narrowed at Jude. "Earlier, they were supposed to process the children that you killed and turn them into fertilizers. I had to create another illusion but it would only last for a couple more hours. I can’t keep it running without creating suspicions. So... I decided to ruin the whole place instead."
