Jude tried to argue but ended up losing. The two women were adamant that this place must be destroyed and they weren’t budging.
In the end, Ava promised to keep him safe. However, he also needed to do his part and pretend that everything surprised him. He would need convincing acting skills.
"I’m surprised that it didn’t take too long for you to examine what had happened," Jude said, confidence laced in his tone. Despite his irritation, he still didn’t have any other choice but to act like this. After all, Ava was standing behind him.
"It was a problem with the supply of our electricity." His people tried to check the facility over and over and were able to determine that there were some problems with their electric supply. Alpha John didn’t understand the terms that his people used but they assured him that it had nothing to do with anyone else.
The damage was just too much for anyone to influence it. Moreover, there were no signs of magick or traces that it had been tampered with in advance.
Alpha John smiled.
"Please forgive me for my actions. You must understand. I needed to follow the protocol. We cannot trust you without the insurance policy. So it needed to happen."
"It’s alright. I am someone who understands protocol," Jude said.
"Since you are already here let me show you this..." Alpha John said. Right now, they were just in his office. First, he needed to show Jude some of the things that they were doing. Of course, he isn’t planning to show him everything. Just bits and snippets of the things that they have done over the years.
He handed Jude a tablet.
"As you can see, we were able to develop a booster. It had short-term effects. It could double the strength of anyone that would take it." Alpha John said.
"Including humans..."
"Yes. Including humans."
"Before you asked, I would like to inform you that I am not focusing on the Hybrids right now. Other teams are working on them. We tend to divide our research to maximize all the results."
Jude nodded. He already expected something like this to happen. He continued reading.
"So you do not have anything that would show its long-term effects after continuous use?" Jude asked.
"Unfortunately not. However, we do not advise humans or shifters to use it daily. This tablet is only good for emergencies. It can be very helpful in situations that require one to double their strength," Alpha John smiled. "Don’t you think so?"
Jude nodded. The tablet had the color blue. It looked luminescent in the dark too.
"Are you planning to sell this to the public?" Jude couldn’t help but ask. He had suspicions that the reason why it wasn’t advisable to use this thing daily is that it had addiction effects. This wouldn’t be the first that something like this was created.
"You are very smart. I didn’t include this in that presentation but yes. Our plan is to create a need for these tablets."
"A need..." Jude frowned. Meaning, they would create a market for this. Obviously, the best market for this is two warring countries. "You wanted to instigate a war to have a market?" Jude said.
Alpha John only smiled. "You made it sound so harsh. The world is overpopulated. Two-warring states aren’t really that big of a deal." Alpha John leaned back. "This is just a part of the process. Everything that we have been doing so far had only one goal. Make the humans accept us."
"So you would create chaos..."
"A villain is needed to create heroes, no?"
Jude had to use all the strength he has to stop himself from attacking the Alpha. He wanted to kill this man.
Trillium had been doing everything to stop the things that Alpha John wanted. As someone who grew up wanting to become a part of Trillium, Jude knew its values and goals from the bottom of his heart.
Trillium wanted to keep the supernatural community safe from the humans and the other way around. And yet Alpha John just...
They actually wanted to create chaos first so they could slowly reveal their existence to the humans?
He knew that these people are willing to do everything to achieve their goals but... this? This is just a different level of insaneness.
"I agree," Jude smirked. Despite the anger inside him, he was forced to smile and act as if he liked this plan. "I must say... this is a brilliant plan, Alpha John. Creating a villain to have a hero." He took a sip of his coffee as he prayed to the goddess to give him strength— enough to stop himself from killing the Alpha right now.
Ava must have felt his anger as he felt a cold touch at the back of his neck. He shivered inwardly as he continued looking at the files.
"What is this?" he asked.
"Ah... this is what your father and I went through. That liquid boosted our healing capabilities and made us stronger compared to our kind."
"The side effect is..."
"Mood swings and anger issues. Yes." Alpha John said. "But then again, there are methods to avoid that. Right now, he has been in the process of developing some medicine to combat the side effects. Soon, we will develop something without any side effects and no one would be able to stop us."
"Alpha John... I have some questions."
"Of course feel free to ask me anything."
"My father... when did he start receiving this treatment?"
"Hmmm..." Alpha John said. "Should be about the same time as I received mine. Probably fifteen or sixteen years ago. We were the first ones who receive the treatment and showed some effects. We suffered for a few years until we were able to develop a better version of the treatment."
Jude nodded without showing any emotion on his face. Growing up, he hated his father for how controlling he was. That man was a narcissist and someone that wouldn’t hesitate to hurt his own kids in the name of discipline. And now he just discovered that those things that his father did might just be because of this treatment.
