The dinner was a bit quiet.
Riane figured this was because everyone was tired. Of course, she tried to engage Matthew and even Ava in a conversation but both ended in awkward silence. After dinner, Matthew, Ava, and Francheska just went back to their tent without even saying a word to them.
Obviously, this didn’t go too well with the other werewolves.
This history between werewolves and lycans is a bit complicated. Lycans always see themselves as the stronger version of werewolves, the more perfect ones. In the past, the Lycans had tried to assert authority over the Werewolves but that didn’t actually end well.
Their King refused to give the Werewolves the respect they thought they needed. That man didn’t even want to acknowledge the werewolves as he thought they were ’lesser’ creatures.
As always, the Lycans had seen themselves as someone very superior. So, when Riane heard that the current King actually invited the werewolves, she thought it was a joke. Then she started thinking it might be a trap. Why would they suddenly invite anyone lower than them?
Before this, they had no idea where the Lycans live. All they know was that they were in Scotland. She always thought something was wrong with that invitation. If there wasn’t, why would a prince still treat them as if they were not equals?
"Lady Riane you should just stop trying."
She looked at the woman who approached her. She was her friend, Joana. She was very good at tracking and was also one of their best fighters.
"They don’t care about us. They just came here because they wanted our help with the rogues," Joana said.
"They can hear you."
"I don’t care." Joana snorted. "It was the truth."
"Joana, " Riane widened her eyes. They couldn’t antagonize the Lycan. At least not now! She met Joana’s eyes and the latter smirked at her. A signal of understanding. Riane knew that there will be an attack later. She, just like the rest of them had the antidote before they took their dinner.
All they had to do now was wait...
After a few hours, Riane went out of her tent and walked towards Matthew’s tent under the pretense of doing some checking before they change the shifts of the people that is currently guarding their encampment.
"Mr. Graydon?" she called out.
Since Lycans are naturally strong, she had expected Matthew to immediately go out of the tent or maybe even the werewolf to acknowledge her. Of course, this wouldn’t happen if the poison worked.
"Mr. Graydon?" she hid the smile on her face as she called out for the second time."Mr. Graydon, I am here to check if everything is alright? We are about to have our change of shift. Please tell me if you need anything."
"Mr. Graydon?" she looked at Joana who was following not far from her. "Mr. Graydon?"
After that, she smiled and gave Joana a thumbs up.
"Alright. I apologize for disturbing you. I am leaving now."
With that, she started working towards the north. Without any hesitation, she used a flare gun that lit up the whole place. It was the signal that she needed. After this, the rogues will arrive and they are going to make a show of fighting against them. The rogues don’t actually recognize allies so, they are already planning to release a gas that would weaken them.
Then they are going to kill a few of the rogues and let the rest escape. Of course, they are also going to take care of Matthew and the others at the same time.
Her uncle told her that she could do what she wanted so she was already planning some things that she could do to teach them a lesson. First was Ava.
Despite being a bitch, she was a bit pretty and some of her people have seen this.
So, she is going to let them have a taste of her flesh... while Matthew is watching.
Wasn’t that too brutal?
Oh, it was. It is definitely brutal. But the world itself is cruel and unfair. One needed to be either brutal or cruel to survive! And Riane chose to be both.
A beam appeared in her lips as she signaled her men to slowly release the gas that would weaken the rogues when they attack. This was staged so there was no point in having her people die. One or two scratches would be enough.
Moreover, this wasn’t the first time that something like this happened to her people so they were already aware of what to do next.
Not long after multiple howls echoed in the forest. freёwebnovel.com
And what followed next was nothing but an act. A convincing one. Obviously, they still had to make it look like they fought against rogues and were defeated.
"Mr. Graydon! Please get up! The rogues are attacking us!"
"Mr. Graydon!"
Yelling and footsteps echoed. Panic can be heard in everyone’s voices despite the fact that most of them had calm looks on their faces. Riane narrowed her eyes. She could feel three people inside the tent. With this in mind, she opened the tent and was surprised to see Francheska sitting calmly with her headphones on.
Francheska lifted her gaze away from the fire in front of her and frowned at Riane.
"Are they finally here?" Francheska smirked at her.
"What?" Riane immediately panic. This time, she wasn’t faking it. Francheska’s question doesn’t make any sense unless... she knew about the rogues.
"Hey... brother? They are here..." Francheska said. "Sorry... the room is a bit soundproof. The witch did that. They wanted their privacy." Francheska gracefully apologized with a gentle smile on her face. "I hope you don’t mind."
"What?" Confused, she looked at Matthew who just walked out of the tent, shirtless, his eyes were a bit red, his hair messy. It looked like he had been sleeping.
"They are?" Matthew looked at Francheska then towards Riane. "Good... I have been itching to kill some rogues."
"What?" Riane asked, confusion apparent in her wide eyes.
