"You thought we didn’t know?" Francheska chuckled she looked at Riane with nothing but mockery in her eyes.
"What are you talking about?" Of course, Riane was still able to control herself. She was a seasoned warrior, there is no need to act on her emotions. It is still bitter to observe and wait before she does anything rash. "I don’t — "
"Lady— " Their conversation was interrupted by a bloody Joana. When Joana saw Matthew, she too had a weird expression on her face. She was here to inform Riane that they are practically done with their mission. All of them were injured and someone even went as far as sustaining an injury that made him faint. It was very convincing.
But...
"Joana..."
"Watch her..." Matthew ignored both Riane and Joana as he walked out of the tent. She gave Francheska a meaningful look before he suddenly jumped from the ground to a nearby tree. His action was too quick, too sudden it surprised both Riane and Joana.
"Wanna watch a trick?" Francheska asked, she was smirking while looking at Matthew. "Let me let you in a little secret..." she added while Riane and Joana started to look horrified as realization hit them like a brick.
Matthew Graydon knew about the rogues!
It was a trap!
"You know what happens to animals if they see someone stronger than them?" Francheska’s voice echoed behind them. They turned towards the woman whose smell had suddenly changed. Meanwhile, Franchesks was smiling at them as if... as if she was looking at her next prey.
"They ran..." Francheska added. "Funny how it was a natural instinct for them to run."
Riane swallowed as she looked at Francheska. She couldn’t understand where the fear inside her came from. But right now, she felt extremely weak in front of Francheska.
Then she heard it.
A loud growl that felt like it was going to break her eardrums. Almost immediately, she paled, goosebumps skittered all over her body as she froze. Something inside her was telling her to run as far as possible. But she couldn’t move.
Her limbs refused to cooperate as sweat dampened her clothes.
She was... scared.
And she couldn’t move.
Another growl echoed.
Then slowly, her expression changed from being just scared to being totally horrified. She doubted her own eyes as the rogues somehow started killing her people— the same people that had been frozen by the loud growl earlier. Again, she tried to move but she couldn’t.
Her body started shaking and she felt something hot trickle down her trembling legs. The smell of blood filled her senses as she watched her people getting slaughtered one by one.
She didn’t even know when it all ended as the next thing she knew, she was already sitting in the snow, cold and alone, surrounded by the dead bodies of werewolves. She looked to her left and spotted Joana’s head. Something bit it off from its neck. Joana’s eyes looked like she was still confused. She must have died without knowing what has happened.
"How do you like it?" Francheska’s voice made her tremble. She lifted her head and look at the beaming woman. There wasn’t a spot of blood on her white suit. "Funny how you think a simple poison would work on Lycans," Francheska said.
"You— You knew— "
"Of course we do." Francheska snorted. "You are lucky, my older brother needed to go somewhere. He asked me to deal with you."
Somewhere...
That word caught Riane’s attention.
"Are you telling me that— he is going to— " she swallowed. If they knew about the rogues then they already knew about Jude Caro and her uncle!
The pack is in danger!
She immediately tried to get up only to realize that someone cut off her legs from the knee down!
"I— "
"It was a small cut," Francheska said. "I didn’t want you to run. So I had to do it."
Riane shivered at the nonchalance in Francheska’s voice. It was just like she was telling her that she took her bag or something to prevent her from running away! This woman...
Riane lifted her frightened gaze towards Francheska.
This woman is a lunatic!
"Now... we should get started..." Francheska said. "So Lady Riane... why don’t you tell me the other packs acquainted to your uncle?"
"If you think I would— Ah!" Riane screamed with something hit her in the head. Francheska actually slapped her?
"I am not done talking!" Francheska said. "Gosh... this is why I prefer reading to talking to people. You really are a nuisance." Francheska crouched in front of Francheska, a dagger in her hands. "You have to tell me the truth or... I am going to use this!"
Francheska showed a vial with a clear-looking liquid.
"It’s something my sister-in-law made. It tastes... horrible by the way. To be fair, all of the things that she makes tasted and smelled horrible. But this one? This is the only one that could actually melt someone’s bone." Francheska smiled, pride apparent in her eyes. "She told me she stumbled upon this potion in the mourning pits. It took her a long time to make one vial so... I shouldn’t waste it."
Francheska then used her dagger to drag Joana’s head nearby and used a drop of the liquid to dissolve a portion of it in seconds.
"Witches can be very very scary," Francheska added. "A powerful one that loves to make potions with a horrible smell is scarier than most things in this world. Do you agree with me?"
Francheska still had a smile on her face as she added. "But this isn’t actually the scariest thing that she had made. You know what is scarier than your bone being dissolved?"
Francheska made a deliberate pause as she showed Riane another vial. "Something that instantly heals anything," she beamed. "Imagine... experiencing all that pain over and over and over again because of a healing potion that was designed to heal anything in seconds?"
