"What— What happened— "
"Rogues attacked us..." Ava walked out of the crowd. There wasn’t a hint of emotion on her face. For some reason, one would immediately notice the stark contrast between her current appearance to Riane. Ava looked clean, with not even a hint of blood on her suit.
"And for some reason, Lady Riane thought that the rogues wouldn’t attack her so she just stood there without doing anything," Francheska added. "We fought and fought and wasn’t able to defend her and the rest."
"What?" Alpha Jude was speechless! He opened his mouth wanting to argue with them but his hands shook, his legs stood frozen as he stared at his pitiful niece.
"What is going... what are you talking about? What attack?"
"Where is Jude?" Francheska ignored his question. "And what happened here?"
"That— "
"There was an accident. The house collapsed and our people were currently trying to rescue everyone trapped in the facility below the houses.""
"There was a facility below the house?" Ava asked, innocently. She had just completely changed the topic. Now, everyone else had an uncomfortable expression on their faces as if they were more worried that Ava and the rest knew about the facility than the fact that Riane lay there dying.
"Let us not talk about that— why don’t we— "
"What about Jude Caro?" Matthew asked. Just like Ava and Francheska, his white suit looked too clean.
"He— "
"Where is Jude?" Fracheska interrupted him.
"Let’s go inside the tent. Everyone, please take care of Riane."
Alpha John had so many questions about the rogues and the attack and of course about Riane. However, Jude Caro is more important right now. The man is missing and if they can’t find him then Trillium would surely get involved. That would only create a bigger problem.
Ava, Francheska, and Matthew followed him inside another tent. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"The facility that we are talking about is a laboratory that has been studying herbs that could help werewolves with some illnesses. It is nothing big but we have a few herbs that we just discovered from the forest so we are hoping to turn them into medicines for the werewolves."
"Medicines? You really wanted us to believe that?" Francheska said. "Where is Jude and what happened to him? How come you are here but not him? What is— "
"First you must know that Mr. Caro is alive. However, we aren’t sure if— "
"How did you know he is still alive?" Francheska asked.
"There are signs of life inside the facility. Just please give us a few hours. We will do our very best to — "
"I will help," Ava immediately volunteered.
"What?"
"I can use magick to— "
"The people here don’t believe in magick."
"What?" Ava blinked, surprised at the other’s revelation. She had been here for a few days and this is the first time she heard about this.
"We have history— bad history— about witches. The only reason why the werewolves have tolerated your existence is that you are from Trillium. However, I do not think they would trust you with saving their loved ones."
"They would rather have their love ones die than asked a witch to save them?" Francheska asked. "That’s absurd."
"That is how much they hated witches."
"That doesn’t make any sense."
"It doesn’t. But that wouldn’t change the fact that it’s real. Our ancestors suffered greatly because of a coven that wanted to experiment on werewolves. In the past, our kids were taken our virgins were killed. Just for the sake of a ritual. We retaliated and were able to kill a few of these witches but it was too late. We have lost our people." Alpha John said. Of course, Ava knew that this was nothing but a lie. She could feel the Alpha’s anger but it was not towards the witches.
"Trillium will hear about this matter."
"What?" Alpha John immediately looked at Matthew.
"That you refuse a witch’s help to find Mr. Caro. I am certain they would love that. Especially if they heard about the laboratory."
"Are you telling me that you are not going to tell them about the underground facility if... you let your witch find Mr. Caro?"
Matthew smirked in response. "Let’s be honest here Alpha. The thought of other people knowing your facility is more important than a witch trying to save a colleague. In fact, this is even more important than the fact that your niece is literally dying because of an attack."
"I— "
After a few minutes of silence, Alpha John clenched his teeth.
"Alright. But you can only do it when no one is watching you."
"Of course," Ava said. However, just because they could end their conversation, someone opened the tent.
"Alpha! Someone is here to see you!"
"Who is it? Didn’t I— "
"It’s me..." Samuel’s voice can be heard even before he could walk into the tent. "How have you been, John?"
"Sam— Samuel?" Alpha John’s eyes immediately landed on Matthew and Ava. They just told him that they wouldn’t tell anyone about the facility.
"Sorry, we panicked after the rogues attacked us. You see... we almost died. So we immediately called Samuel." Francheka smiled at him. "Since Samuel is already here, we are leaving. We need to find Jude."
"Wait—" Alpha John was helpless as he watched the three of them leave the tent. Then he looked at Samuel. This is The Samuel. The human working with Trillium.
"Alpha John it seems that we needed to talk about a lot of things."
......................
Jude remembered a large object hitting his body. He was pretty certain he was already dead earlier when the object hit him and his gaze started to turn hazy. But for some reason, he was still alive.
He struggled to get up when she realized that his body didn’t ache as much. There were no ceilings on top of him too. He examined himself and discovered that aside from bruises, there was nothing that could threaten his life.
It must be Ava.
The reason why she didn’t just teleport him outside of this place is that she wanted a show.
Did she perhaps call Samuel and Trillium? Because that was the only thing that could make things even bigger. If that was her plan all along then... she might just succeed in destroying Alpha John’s reputation and the rogue’s base in this area.
