"Tsk... I want to kill him." The woman said.
"I know... but you aren’t capable of killing someone like that."
"Are you certain he can walk in dreams?"
The robed man turned silent. Then he nodded. "Perhaps... perhaps not. Who knows?"
Again, Ava could feel the smile on the man. This only made her more worried. She cannot warn the old man since she was trapped in this weird space. Moreover, she could no longer feel her physical body.
It was as if her connection to her physical body had been cut off.
"I will give you another chance." The man said.
"I will do everything."
"Good... very good. I want you to distract that man..."
"I thought— "
"I am not asking you to kill him. I said... occupy his attention."
"I understand," the woman said and bowed her head.
’Fuck,’ Ava thought inwardly. She needed to leave this place! The Shaman is already weak. She needed to save him. Her heart started thumping loudly as she tried to use her magick to teleport out of this place. Sadly, she couldn’t.
What the hell is going on here?
....................
The Shaman had a dark look on his face as he stared at Ava’s body. She looked peaceful in her sleep. Or at least that’s what it looked like to anyone who didn’t know what was going on. Ava looked like she was sleeping. However, the Shaman knew that Ava just lost the connection between her astral body and physical body.
That is dangerous.
Ava is new to astral projection and to magick. Even though she inherited hundreds of years of his knowledge, she was still inexperienced. Because of this, it would be hard for her to come back to her body.
This is bad, he thought.
Since Ava was new to magick, her time is limited. For instance, the Shaman could do an astral projection for months. He could leave his physical body somewhere safe as he visited other planes and realms. However, Ava could only maintain that for a few hours at most.
Two hours or three... maybe even one hour. The Shaman wasn’t sure as this would depend on how much she knew about this type of magick.
Knowledge.
Yes, at the end of the day, everything would boil down to Ava’s knowledge and understanding of astral projection.
"Shaman!"
The Shaman immediately hid Ava’s body as Baba walked inside.
"You are right... the witches are coming," Baba said. "You have to be honest with me. Where is she?"
"I don’t see any reason to tell you Babaylan."
"I have to know if something terrible happened to her while Matthew is not here," Baba said as she created a shield surrounding them. "I can’t let something happen to her while Matthew is gone. He would kill me."
The Shaman pursed his lips in response. Then he removed the magick that covered Ava’s body.
"What— "
"Astral projection..." the Shaman said. "Her astral body has been trapped somewhere."
"Is there anything that I can do to— "
"Create more shields. No one should be able to touch her body. We need to keep her safe."
"I understand. Can you find her?" Baba said.
"Yes."
Baba sighed in relief. "Good... That’s good..." She hesitated before she asked. "What would happen if she can’t... come back to her body?"
"She would stay like this until we find her astral body. But once her magick runs out... there is a possibility that she would die."
"I— " Baba gritted his teeth. "I will do my best to protect this place."
With that, she walked out of the room.
"What happened?" A frowning Drigo welcomed her. They are currently standing just outside of the hall that the witches occupied earlier. "Is she safe?"
"She is..." Baba said and gave the younger man a stern look. "That’s all you need to know."
"Oh... then..."
"No one is allowed to go inside this place."
"I am here! I heard that you need my hold?" Erenes said as she approached the two. In response, Baba lifted an eyebrow. She looked at Drigo.
"I called her... I thought she could help us." Drigo answered.
"I have no ill intention Babaylan. I am here to help. I owe them a lot."
"I’ve heard..." Baba said. "I am going to accept your offer. Create more shields around this room. No one is allowed in."
"What about the other witches?" Erenes said. "It’s chaotic inside this hall. Their magick is spiraling out of the control."
"I will deal with them," Drigo said. "Just... keep Ava safe."
The two witches stared at each other before they both nodded. Once Drigo left, Erenes started creating more shields that would cover the whole place.
"Just so you know... I can feel your sharp gaze," Erenes said as she met Baba’s eyes. "I already told you. I am not going to do something evil. I owe Ava a huge favor."
Baba snorted. She, too, started creating her shields. "Can you really blame me?" she asked. "After what you did to Matthew while he was younger..."
"I am following orders Babaylan. And you knew that."
Baba said nothing. Instead, she pursed her lips and finished her shields.
"I apologize for what happened," Erenes said. "I have a child and you knew how horrendous this world is to people who betray their masters. Especially if that someone has a child."
"I did not ask for your explanation Erenes," Baba said. She looked at the woman wearing an all-black dress. "I do not care enough to hear about it."
Erenes chuckled. "It’s funny how I didn’t know you have this side on you," Erenes said. For a moment, amusement flashed in her eyes. "It’s entertaining."
In response, Baba snorted.
"The only reason why I let you stay near this place is that I am well aware of what happened in the past between you and Ava. But if you try to do something that could harm her..."
"I would never do that," Erenes said.
Baba smirked. "Keep that promise."
Just as she finished speaking, a loud explosion exploded just outside of the palace.
