"What?" Matthew didn’t know if he had simply heard the guardian confess something like that. Did the man just nonchalantly say those words? Or... was this a hallucination? An illusion? Was the guard trying to trick him?
"You heard it right. I made a mistake and created a life that shouldn’t have existed."
"What are you— " Why would the guarding tell him something like this? He had a sudden sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. "Why would the guardian tell me this?" it was supposed to be a secret.
"No. This isn’t a secret." The Guardian said. "The rest knows about my mistake of falling for a mortal but they didn’t know about the child. Yet."
Matthew frowned. What the hell does that mean?
"No need to fear. I did not call you here to harm you. I simply want to ask for a favor in exchange for... letting you stay in the realms of the mortals."
"A favor?" Matthew already expected this.
"Yes. In exchange for letting you stay. Please protect my child."
"I— Are you aware of the current trouble that I am in?" Matthew asked. "A thousand years ago, someone trapped me in another realm. Since then, everything has been chaotic. I am slowly fixing the things that they have done. The people from the Shadow realm were able to get into the mortal world because of the portals that I created in the past. This isn’t just a small matter."
"If you are thinking that the reason why I asked you is that you are powerful then you would be very wrong." The man said. "The reason why I asked you is that... you knew my child."
Matthew blinked. Then he blinked again.
Realization slowly hit him.
"Ava..." he muttered. Ava was extremely unique. She’s human. Not a demon or a daemon. Yet she had the ability of those two. She had the ability of a witch but doesn’t really use nature for her magick. She’s different and so unique. Now that the guardian told him about his story, he immediately understood why Ava was so powerful. freewebnøvel_com
She had the blood of a Guardian!
The world might just bend at her will!
"You left your child vulnerable knowing she had your abilities?" he asked in disbelief.
"Being close to her would only bring more trouble. The other guardians would want her dead."
"So, you chose to leave her to a witch."
"It was the only way."
"Does she— she know about you," Matthew said. "You are the man in that prison cell!" That was the only reason why Ava went there alone. She haven’t told him anything and he didn’t want to pressure her into telling him. He was certain she would tell him once she was ready.
"It is better for us not to meet again."
Matthew sat there in shock.
The guardian’s daughter? Her fragment went inside the guardian’s daughter!?
This would only complicate things!
"I am her mate." Matthew decided to be honest.
"I know. Isn’t that why you are still in this realm? I would have thrown you somewhere far if I hadn’t known that fact." The man snapped his fingers and glass appeared in his hand. "Whiskey?" he asked. "I thought you might want a drink." Just as he was saying this, a table appeared in front of Matthew. Then a whiskey and glass followed.
"No thank you." Until now, Matthew couldn’t process the fact that Ava was actually someone related to the guardian clan.
"What are the odds that your mate this time is actually someone from the Guardian clan?" the man chuckled. "I remember the rumors surrounding you and your fragments. I thought those were mere rumors. In the end, you disappeared along with her."
"You are taking this lightly. "Matthew said. "She is my mate. If she is someone from your clan then— "
"She is not." The man said. "They do not know anything about her and I want to keep it that way."
"How could you hide her presence? You must have created something that would stop her from showing off her true abilities. But did you really think it is going to last that long? Once... she spends so much time in the astral world.... The barrier would soon lose its effects. Did you really think she would be able to hide the fact that she has the blood of a Guardian?"
This time, the man turned silent.
"I am not going to let that happen." The man said.
"How?" Matthew knew that Ava had a very good teacher. The Shaman is another dream walker and he had been training her to explore dream walking. Once Ava completely grasped the essence of dream walking, once she’s able to control that part of her magick, the barrier inside her body will break.
"I will— "
"You knew very well that she had been traveling outside of the mortal realm. What made you think that she won’t be able to break through the barrier?" Matthew said. Once the other guardians would know of her existence....
No. That cannot happen.
"Isn’t this why you have to be by her side?"
"What?"
"It would be safer if she’s next to someone like you. They would never attempt to touch her."
Matthew narrowed his eyes. How can a guardian act like a coward? He silently fumed. Guardians are named guardians because they were good at guarding realms. And now, this man was actually trying to ask someone to guard his daughter in his stead?
The more Matthew thought about it, the more irritated he became. Dark smoke started to swirl around him as he glared at the man claiming to be Ava’s father.
However, just as he was about to let go of his anger, Ava’s father smiled. "Her mother is still alive..." he said, his tone gentle.
"And?" what does it have to do with anything?
"The people who captured her are not from this realm."
Again, what does it have to do with their current conversation? Matthew wondered inwardly.
"They are using her to find me. That is the reason why I cannot be with Ava. I cannot see her or talk to her or they would find her and treat her just as how they treated her mother."
