Chapter 428: The New King 4

At the end of the day, Ava wasn’t able to understand why someone would create a plane and a secret magick circle that would double as a protective trap or a protective barrier.

If one would carefully think about it, the one who created this plane could control it. So, making a magick circle wouldn’t make any sense at all. Unless of course, they were using this plane as some sort of a mask to hide another plane?

Does that even make any sense?

It didn’t take too long before they were able to clear out the rest of the stuff inside the laboratory and even save Ulva.

Ava’s only regret was the fact that they weren’t able to save the others like Amelia and her child. It seems that the robed man was able to transfer them using a special tool that was created using their magick. It was kinda similar to a portal except this one was using the bodies of the witches that Ava first saw when she arrive in this place.

Obviously, the de Cene family was also involved in this matter however, they couldn’t find any physical proof aside from the fact that the laboratory had been located underneath the de Cene family manor. When they used this to try and detain the members of the de Cene family, the old patriarch immediately denied all allegations and stated that he didn’t know anything.

What made it more complicated was the fact that the underground lab also had other entrances and exits from various parts of the plane. There was even an entrance that was located in three of the royal palace. Because of this, they weren’t able to hold the de Cene family accountable for what happened!

Obviously, this was Ava and Matthew’s loss. Not only did the men wearing robes escape, they weren’t able to drag the de Cene family down! Almost immediately, Matthew suggested that they should just kill them. Because... why not? He reasoned.

But Ava declined this suggestion. Why would he suddenly kill people? He is now the King of this plane! Why was he acting like a tyrant?

In response, Matthew just shrugged and smiled as he told her that he was born a tyrant. Despite Matthew’s insistence that killing the de Cene family was a normal thing, Ava still refused to do so. As the King, he can’t just kill anyone, especially since the evidence is against them right now.

In the end, they let the patriarch go after letting the man make an oath not to tell anyone about it. Because of the discovery of the underground lab, both Ava and Matthew had become busier as they chose to become more involved in studying the things that they found inside the facility. This time, they were able to find out a lot of things. freewёbnoνel-com

For instance, they found out that newborn witches or younger kids whose witch powers are still dormant have a pure type of magick which means that experimenting on them is better than someone who already used magick in the past. They also found out that younger shifters can experiment with magick. Contrary to normal beliefs, a young shifter will survive even if they were injected with a witch’s blood.

However, they discovered that not all witches can be used for experiments. Witches with stronger bloodlines were better than the ones who were born with only one witch parent.

Amelia...

Ava immediately thought of the woman who was the daughter of a priestess. She didn’t know who Amelia’s father was but knowing her mother, her father must be a witch too!

Still, there is another puzzle that Ava needed to solve.

Why does it seem like Amelia’s mother was acting as if she knew where Amelia is? She keeps on insisting that her daughter didn’t want to be found. She made Ava think that she was just hiding her daughter from Broody.

Not long after, Matthew’s coronation happened.

It was just a small event with the head of the nobles and Drigo. Matthew didn’t want to have a large celebration and was pretty adamant that they did it as quickly as possible. He didn’t care about the tradition. All he wanted was the throne.

Obviously, this didn’t sit very well with the other noble family.

But what can they do about it?

They wanted to raise this issue even before the coronation happened but they were too scared to question Matthew. And obviously, they didn’t want to put their lives in danger just because of a mere tradition! So, Matthew had the ceremony that he wanted.

It was short, sweet, and solemn. After that, Matthew instructed everyone to leave him and Ava alone. Everything was going too fast that Matthew wasn’t able to discuss one important thing— one very important thing.

"I can’t be the Queen," Ava said while shaking her head. "That would only cause more chaos inside this plane. We can talk about this after a year of your realm."

"Do you have to care about other people’s opinions?" Matthew asked.

"I don’t care about their opinion. I just don’t want to give them any more reason to try and stage another revolt. After what happened two days ago, these people are still nervous around you. Let’s not give— "

"And you really think I care about what they will do?" Matthew lifted an eyebrow, a bemused smile plastered on his face.

"You are their King."

"Only in name," Matthew said. "Did you really think these people respected the royalty? All they wanted was to have their daughter sit next to the King’s chair. Pride and ego and tradition. Then they wonder why they have become weaker and weaker." Disgust is apparent in Matthew’s tone.

Ava turned silent. A Queen? She was certain she was not Queen material. The thought of becoming a Queen never really crossed her mind. Plus, she’s not really ready to tackle all the chaos that comes along with it.

For some reason, she was feeling like a damn coward.

But was she really ready for that kind of responsibility? For that kind of burden?
