"Still like it black?" Ava asked Broody.
"You still remember." freёwebnovel-com
"It’s because I don’t have sugar, idiot." Ava said as she put the coffee in front of Broody. Then she sat opposite him. "Patricia told you about Amelia?"
"You knew... of course you did."
"I can tell that you are blaming me, Broody. That doesn’t make any sense." Why would Broody blame her if Amelia is a witch?
This man.
"You knew Amelia’s a witch. Did you know... I have been looking for her everywhere. Knowing the truth would have helped me."
"Did it?"
"What?"
"After knowing the truth... did it help you somehow?"
Speechless, the man stared at her before he grabbed his coffee and drank it.
*Clack*
He placed the empty cup in front of him.
"No." Broody answered after a few seconds. He then leaned forward. "Patricia believes that Amelia left."
"On purpose?" Why the hell would she do that? No. That’s impossible. She’s about to give birth in a few weeks.
Broody nodded. "She believes that her daughter purposely got pregnant with my child and then left me."
"I don’t understand."
Broody clenched his jaw.
"You don’t have to think about it. I already filed a missing report in both the US and Europe. Just in case."
"Patricia and Amelia... I don’t think they ever liked each other." Broody said.
"But didn’t she agree to come here with you so someone would take care of her child?"
He shook his head. "Who knows?"
Right. At this point. No one really knows what Amelia was thinking. However, this was none of her business. Trillium betrayed her. And the witches could not be trusted. Involving herself in other people’s problems would be the best way to die before her next birthday.
That might sound horrible but she wasn’t some hero. She did her fair share of villainous things in the past. And she wasn’t going to start to be kind of gentle now.
"So? Why are you here?"
"You’ve changed." Broody uttered. His gaze immediately made her uncomfortable.
"People do."
"I came to apologize."
"Forgiven."
He shook his head. Then he chuckled. "And I want to ask a question. I need an honest answer."
Ava snorted in response. What the hell was this man talking about? What made him think he deserved an honest answer? After actually ghosting her for no reason and coming back with a pregnant wife, Broody really had the guts to demand an honest answer?
She was speechless.
Unable to process Broody’s intention, she nodded without saying a word.
"Why did you never tell me that you were— "
She squinted. Memories of the past filled her head.
Why?
Why keep her abilities a secret?
Why hide it from everyone else including her boyfriend for three years?
"I don’t know," she lied.
"You are lying."
She shrugged in response. She just stared at him without saying a word and he stared back. His gaze turned complicated.
"You didn’t trust me."
She snorted. "Are you really talking about this right now?" She only had three words for him. What the hell.
After everything, how could he come here and talk about the past and trust? Again... What the hell?
He pursed his lips.
"And you know... I really don’t appreciate you trespassing in my house." Ava uttered. "Next time you do it... I will report you to the police."
"Being reported to the police sounds better than being burnt alive," he clapped back.
"What?"
"When... when we were in college. That girl... the cheerleader."
Ava frowned.
"Did you... hurt her?"
She blinked at him. Why was he bringing up the past?
"No, let me rephrase the question." He leaned closer. "Did you burn her?"
She chuckled and shook her head. "We’re done talking Broody."
"Did you hurt her!?"
Again, she didn’t answer. Why would she? Broody didn’t deserve answers. She didn’t really know why she let him in. Maybe it was because she had been very exhausted, so she didn’t want to fight and thought this would be a normal conversation.
Well...
She was wrong.
"Answer me," Broody growled. "After everything that I have been through, I deserve to know it."
"You sound like you suffered because of me, Broody." She got up. Yes. That’s it. She needed her sleep. "Don’t." She met his fiery eyes.
"Or you will hurt me too?" Broody’s voice was calm. It was the complete opposite of his angry eyes. However, Ava couldn’t understand why this man was angry. There were a few incidents during college and all of them happened because she was... jealous and she didn’t really know how to properly use her abilities.
When Gabriella learned about it, she was horrified and insisted that she transferred to a different college in a different state. She told her using magick on humans is forbidden. Especially if it was meant to harm them.
Broody got up and approached her.
"Why are you really here, Broody?" she asked. "If you are here just to irritate me then you succeeded. Now leave." She opened the door for him. "And next time you trespass, I will make you regret it."
"I guess you never changed after all." Broody said. He was standing close.
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
"Did you ever wonder why I left?"
"Did you come here to talk about it?" she retorted. "I would have been mildly interested to hear the reason why you left a year ago. But now? I would rather fuck the next guy I see, than listen to you."
"You are still as mean as ever..."
"And you are still an obnoxious jerk. Instead of coming here, why not try to find your wife?" Just what kind of husband would visit an ex girlfriend while their wife is missing?
Yep.
The ones that deserve a beating.
"Amelia left on her own." Broody said.
"I don’t care, Broody."
"Figures."
She clenched her jaw.
"I left because of your mother, Ava."
Ava lifted an eyebrow.
"I thought... it didn’t make sense at that time. But after knowing the truth it kinda sounds weird."
She opened her mouth but closed it again.
"I don’t believe you." She said after a few seconds of silence.
Broody nodded. "I know."
He walked out of the door without saying anything else.
And once he reached the patio, he looked back at her and said,
"I knew you would say that. I guess I just wasted my time... huh."
