Chapter 71: Hybrids

Two days later

Ava stared at Marylis then turned towards Phil who quickly avoided her gaze.

"You said... this would be a small party." Though Ava already expected that there would be more guests than she originally anticipated, the number of guests totally surprised her.

There were close to thirty people.

All dressed up.

All half drunk.

All noisy.

It immediately irritated her.

She frowned again. Not knowing what to say, she looked at Marylis who had an apologetic smile on her face.

"It just happened," Marylis said.

And as much as Ava wanted to reprimand her, she couldn’t. She rolled her eyes inwardly.

Marylis was the social butterfly. Not her!

These people came for Marylis and not her!

Ava didn’t mind.

But it was uncomfortable.

The hassle was making her tick.

And irritating her wasn’t a very good thing.

"Why is that man here?" Ava asked Phil. She was talking about someone that she had just met a few days ago. freewёbnoνel-com

"Who?"

"Jude?"

"Jude? Oh!" Realization hit Phil’s face. "Mr. Caro?"

"Yes, why is he here?" Ava hissed as she looked outside. They were currently in the kitchen. From there, she could see Jude smiling and talking to a women on the back where the party was held. "He is a friend."

"A friend?" Ava asked in disbelief. What the hell was Jude doing? She gritted her teeth and sent daggers the man’s way. She hoped he would suddenly slip and damage his spine. After all, the snow was still thick outside.

An outside party in the middle of the snow but these people loved it. Well... most people were inside talking while the others were at the back talking over barbecues and a bonfire.

It was still six in the evening.

And six in the evening in January was already dark and cold.

Gosh.

Ava had so many complaints in her head but she couldn’t really say it in front of the couple. After all, most of these people also came to see their baby. Gabi.

Ava frowned. She thought of what happened the last time she saw Jude.

Honestly, all she felt right now was anger.

Jude and that damned Trillium betrayed her and she was helpless against it. She couldn’t fight against Trillium. And now this?

Jude had gotten close to her brother without her knowledge!

He was threatening her!

"Alright... I will just..."

"V, you can stay here or spend some time outside. It will be good. Jude roasts the best steaks." Phil suggested, his face already had a little color compared to the last time she saw him. Still, he looked weak or at least his aura did.

She wondered if Marylis could also feel it.

Why wasn’t she doing anything about it?

Marylis had the ability to see glimpses of the future. However, because the future always changed, it was not always accurate. Moreover, there were even chances that what Marylis saw would never even happen.

This only made her more and more suspicious.

When Marylis and Phil left, Ava quickly made her way towards her car. She had promised to stay but she didn’t exactly tell them where.

Ava wouldn’t really mind spending the rest of the party in her car. Alone.

Being alone is still better than being with people she doesn’t like.

"V!"

Ava wasn’t really surprised when she heard Jude’s voice behind her.

"Please... wait..." Jude said when she started to hasten her footsteps instead of stopping.

"V!"

"What?" Ava turned to look at the man who betrayed her.

"We need to talk."

"No we don’t."

"Please... "

"I don’t need to talk, Jude." This man got close to her brother so he could try and frame him for the sins he didn’t commit.

He betrayed Ava.

Period.

There was no changing that.

There was no explaining that.

"Please will you just listen to me?"

Ava was about to turn when she noticed some people coming out of the house– people she wouldn’t want to see her talk to Jude.

"Follow me," she said. She turned towards her car as she listened to Jude’s heavy footsteps behind her.

"What is it?" she asked. "I will give you two minutes."

"Amore is an Elder." Jude said. "Of Trillium."

"Figured as much." Ava said, sarcasm coated her voice. Of course, Amore was an Elder! She wanted to roll her eyes.

Jude looked to his left and right. Then he handed her a piece of paper. "I have no other choice V. I am only following orders."

"Right."

Clearly, everyone had been looking down on Ava. But she didn’t care. Soon, she will have her revenge. She might be helpless now but that won’t last for long. She would make sure to make that man— the man who killed her mother suffer.

"What is that?" she asked without accepting the paper.

"Samuel’s location."

Ava lifted an eyebrow.

"Seeing her expression, Jude continued. "Look... I know you don’t want to see me. I know you won’t answer any of my calls. So I showed up here just to give you this."

"Did you really think I would trust you after everything?" she snorted. "Jude... the only reason why I haven’t killed you yet is because... I couldn’t but that would change soon." She was getting stronger. And she could feel it.

Her gifts had been amplified.

That included her dream walking gifts.

Using that ability, she could kill anyone in their dreams if she wanted to. All she needed to do was to train.

Yes. She needed to train and train. For her revenge.

"I know you don’t believe me... so feel free to check it out."

Ava grabbed the paper.

"Why give me this?"

Jude pursed his lips. "I can’t tell you that."

"Another secret, huh."

"Just know... Samuel has been good to me."

Ava said nothing.

"I am leaving. I know I made you uncomfortable. I’m sorry."

Before the other could turn around, Ava suddenly called out.

"Was it because of the hybrids?"

Jude’s eyes widened but his expression turned back calm quickly.

"Stay away from those people V."

Ava snorted.

"You knew that Hybrids killed my mother, didn’t you?"

When Jude didn’t answer, Ava smiled at him. Then she turned around without saying another word.
