"Who are you?" It was Broody. He faced Matthew, his face contorted into an ugly scowl.
"Not a married man." Matthew’s answer was like a wake-up call to Ava. She immediately walked towards Matthew. He must have heard what they said earlier which made him so agitated.
"Alright. Let’s leave," Ava said. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"Are you going to leave without introducing that man, V?"
"Yes Broody and this is none of your business," she snapped.
"V... who is this?"
"Phil... I’m sorry, not now. I will call you later. For now, I am leaving." Ava said. She held Matthew’s arms and tried to pull him away.
But the man didn’t plan on moving.
"Matthew..." she hissed and tugged his arms again. "Let’s go?" A fake smile appeared on her face.
"Of course," Matthew responded. However, his gaze was still focused on Broody. "I suggest that you take care of your missing wife rather than concern yourself with driving my woman to our home."
OUR HOME.
Matthew emphasized the word.
Ava’s cheeks felt hot!
She wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it.
Was that even possible?
She hoped it was.
After dragging Matthew outside, Ava immediately noticed that her car was already gone.
"I asked Marko to take it."
"How’d he get the key?" Ava asked when Matthew didn’t answer, she pressed her lips together. "You didn’t have to do that."
"Yes, I did." Matthew was holding her hand as they walked in the snow.
"I can handle it, Matthew."
"No, you can’t."
She sighed.
"Not in front of your brother and sister-in-law who just disrespected you."
Right. He was right. She wasn’t going to do it in front of Marylis. Not when the witch could easily take care of her brother and nephew. She gritted her teeth, and the feeling of helplessness washed over her.
"Do you want me to do something about it?" Matthew said.
"No need," Ava said. Sometimes, she wished magick could fix all of her problems. But it won’t.
"Why did you come here?" she asked. She already informed him earlier that she was going to join a party hosted by Marylis.
"I came to see you..."
She stopped walking and stared at him.
"Stop joking."
"I am not."
"So you crashed a party because you wanted to see me?"
"Oh, I would crash anything just to see you."
She blinked at him. Speechless at his words, she chuckled and shook her head.
"You are good with your mouth."
"I know."
"So, where are we going?" she asked.
"I thought it was the perfect time to meet my people."
She stared at him in disbelief as they started walking again.
"So you just decided that I should meet your people... on this night?"
"Yes."
"On the night of the party?"
"Definitely."
"And it wasn’t intentional?"
"Absolutely not."
She let out another chuckle.
"Why are you doing this?" she couldn’t help but ask.
"Doing what exactly?"
"I don’t know... making me laugh?" Her bad mood slowly vanished. It was as if the bad emotions that she had earlier evaporated into thin air.
"Dating people do that."
His answer almost made her choke.
"I am serious. Where are we going?" she asked.
"Home."
"So..."
"The training center is at home."
"Oh..."
So the man took his time to crash the party with an insane entrance just to take her home.
Well...
She smiled and nodded.
How could she say no to that?
.....
"So, this place is your lab," Ava said. The training center that Matthew mentioned was still underground. It was just on a different floor.
"Lab and training."
"Why does it sound like you are hiding this from the other Lycans?" she asked.
"Because I am hiding this from the other Lycans?"
She snorted just as the elevator door opened.
The smell of iron and sweat immediately welcomed her senses.
Shouts and yelling filled the place.
The first thing that Ava saw was a large man, probably six foot seven or eight running towards a small muscular man who looked to be six foot or six foot one.
The larger man yelled, large veins visible on his neck and temple.
However, the small man easily avoided his attack and kicked him, sending him a few steps backward.
Ava’s eyes widened.
She could hear the buzzing noise again, the thick atmosphere of a shifter surrounding her.
All of the people inside this place, all of them, except Ava, were Lycans.
"In position..." Matthew whispered and everyone who was fighting stopped doing what they were doing and started to line up into rows.
Seven rows, five columns.
There were thirty-five shifters in this place except for her and Matthew.
All of them were muscular, tall, and intimidating.
The buzzing in the air intensified when she felt their gaze toward her.
"This is Ava..." Matthew said. "My... witch."
Ava heard someone cough but she ignored it.
"Treat her the same way you treat me," Matthew said. "That’s all... disperse."
Ava looked at Matthew. That was it?
That’s all?
"Do you have questions?" Matthew asked when no one moved. Everyone was looking at Ava. No. They weren’t just looking at her. They were fucking glaring.
"Sir... she’s young." Someone from the back said.
In response, Matthew nodded. "Younger than you, yes."
"Then... will she join us in our training?"
Ava’s eyes widened. She already knew that Matthew would introduce her as his witch, but she wasn’t informed about joining them. While Ava underwent some training in the past with Trillium, she didn’t want to expose her skills in front of so many shifters.
She couldn’t trust them.
"No," Matthew’s answer was firm.
"But sir..." the small guy from earlier said. "For years you have been refusing to receive a witch. Forgive my impudence but this woman is young and obviously weaker than the other witches in the capital. She should train with us to be able to assess you in the future."
Ava sighed inwardly. Her age has always been a problem as many people would immediately look down on someone younger than them.
"No. I will personally— "
"No need." Ava interrupted Matthew. Her actions immediately made a few of the men’s faces ugly. Was it because it looked like she disrespected Matthew? She looked at the smaller man and said. "Let me show you what I am capable of."
"You— You want to spar with me?" the man said.
Ava smiled then she nodded.
