A fight between a pure-blood Lycan and a witch sounded exciting.
And Ava was very aware of that.
She looked at the man whose name she didn’t even know. Compared to her, the man was taller and bulkier. His muscles bulged in his arms as he glared at her, sending daggers her way.
The man didn’t like her.
Perhaps it was because everyone looked at a witch as a lowly slave. Something that would die if their Lycans died.
Honestly, this fact infuriated her.
How could Lycans treat witches as slaves?
This tradition long started even before she was born.
"Are you sure, witch?" the man said in a serious tone. He was hesitant.
And Ava knew why.
The man didn’t want to hurt her.
Of course, this wasn’t because she was smaller than him or that she was a woman. The truth doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that Ava looked weaker than him.
No.
It was because of Matthew.
The damn Lycan didn’t want to hurt her because he was scared of Matthew.
Of course, she couldn’t really blame him for this.
"A death match?" the man said in a heavy tone. The death match is something that shifters use when they fight in an Arena.
It was another tradition that started a long, long time ago.
It was said that this started when a young shifter challenged a strong older shifter. To make sure that the young shifter’s family wouldn’t go after the older shifter, the old man asked the young shifter to make a death oath.
It was a powerful oath that means the loser or the family’s loser wouldn’t go after the winner.
Once broken, the loser’s family will die.
One needed a witch to create this oath.
And since Ava was a witch, creating one was easy for her.
Of course, there were other ways to stop a deathmatch without actually killing the other. It was when one of them surrendered or fainted.
Yes. It was that simple.
However, the loser was bound to suffer the humiliation of becoming the winner’s slave for ten whole years.
The practice was still pretty popular until now.
Ava could feel Matthew’s anger as he stared at her back. She wondered if the man had stopped blinking as his gaze actually felt really intense.
However, Ava wasn’t planning to let this gaze intimidate her.
There was only one way to avoid the training without any suspicions. And that is to show her strength. Of course, the best way to do that is to kill this man.
Alright, maybe not kill.
Fainting would be good too.
It sounded harsh and brutal. But it was life. This was the reality that shifters had lived with since the moment they opened their eyes to this world.
"Are you scared little Lycan?" Ava taunted.
Hearing this, the other Lycans started laughing. Someone whistled while other people snorted at her words. A witch might be strong, but one cannot underestimate a Lycan.
Actually, she wasn’t underestimating anyone.
She was prepared to fight to the death. She wasn’t joking at all.
Though, Matthew had a different opinion about this matter.
Ava smiled when she recalled Matthew’s reaction earlier. His wolf wanted to protect her and while being protected felt nice, Ava refused. There were fights that Matthew could not stop. There were fights that she needed to fight. Alone.
He didn’t want her to fight. The man actually tried to stop her and pull her away from this place. Luckily, the man stopped when Ava asked him to trust her.
Yes. Trust.
This was something that they didn’t have yet.
Or maybe it was just her who didn’t trust Matthew.
Either way, Ava considered trust as something that someone should earn.
It was not given for free.
"You really dare to ask that question?" the Lycan said. "Do you think that Master would have the power to stop the fight?"
Ava rolled her eyes. This man talked too much. She looked towards Simon, who actually followed them here just to become the match’s referee.
"I think we should start," Ava said, her palms had been itching for a long time now. frёewebηovel.cѳm
She had been itching for a bloody fight.
Simon sighed.
"The Death Oath has been completed. The Death Match shall begin!" Simon raised his right hand then he brought it down.
Almost immediately, the Lycan disappeared from where he was standing. The next thing that Ava knew, the man was already standing behind her.
Close combat is usually a witch’s weakness.
But not her.
She ducked, avoiding the man’s gaze. Then she snapped her finger. An invisible wind swept her away from the man. On the outside, Ava looked like she was flying. But using flight magick would be too much for an opponent like this.
"You’re quick." The man narrowed his eyes at her.
Ava pursed her lips. Then she snapped her fingers again. In front of everyone, her body turned into multiple mirages.
Four.
Eight.
Then sixteen.
Ava tilted her head to the left and all of the mirages followed her. Then she tilted her head to the right.
"Stretching done..." Ava smirked. "Catch me if you can... beast."
Her words seemed to trigger a different reaction from the man.
His eyes bulged, as he let out a deep guttural growl that should have scared a normal witch.
But it only made Ava smile.
But this time, Ava didn’t wait for the man to actually catch her. She used an acceleration magick and reinforced her fists with steel.
The man wanted a fight.
And Ava was prepared to give him one.
The man lunged at her.
Bam!
The loud noise echoed when Ava’s fist hit the man’s fist. The man smirked at her, expecting her to cry from the impact. But his smile soon vanished when instead of a cry, Ava gave the Lycan a beautiful smile instead.
"Boom bitch..." Ava said.
BOOM!
Just like what she said, a loud boom followed. It sent the man a few feet away from her.
Surprised gasps followed and someone exclaimed, "What the hell?"
