Munoz grew up as one of the Imperial nobles. They were Lycans who were so strong that the other Lycans started calling them nobles.
For years, his family had served Matthew’s and had been trained to protect them. At first, Munoz hated the half-bloods. He didn’t want to work for him. But when he knew that Matthew was going to become the next king, he left his home and followed him.
Just like most Lycans, Munoz started hating witches when he was a kid. It wasn’t something that he intended to do. Instead, it was something that his parents did, that everyone else did.
To him, witches were slaves. They were born to follow a Lycan and support them. They were born to protect Lycans, serve them, and give them everything that they want.
This was nothing personal.
Munoz glared at Ava after the loud explosion. In fact, the explosion didn’t hurt him or anyone else. Aside from the fact that it made him move a few steps back, nothing happened.
It was a scam.
Munoz’s blood boiled with anger.
How could a mere witch humiliate him like this?
Munoz thought that this fight would be easy. He was planning to just hit the witch once. The hit wouldn’t be strong enough to kill her, but strong enough to make her faint. He was planning to end this fight in a few seconds.
Munoz had been trained to kill witches, and he knew that a witch’s weakness is close combat. A punch could kill a weak witch!
So, he tried to use the technique that he knew.
He was confident and was prepared to show off his ability in front of Matthew. After all, witches are replaceable. There were just too many of them.
But the witch...
This woman was actually wearing a dress while fighting him and also surprised him with tricks!
"Damn you," he spat, anger danced in his eyes.
Yes. Witches were extremely good with tricks. Especially the weaker ones. They use it to fool people, to scare them away. This was only because they were weaker!
Munoz cursed inwardly as he used his legs and sent her a kick. Lycans might not be comparable to vampires when it came to speed, but this woman was a witch — a young witch!
Munoz refused to believe that she could defeat him in a fair fight.
"Stop using tricks!" Munoz hissed when Ava disappeared after his kick hit her.
It was just one of her mirages!
He glanced at the other fifteen mirages.
"Since you are hiding then.." His fists were tight, his eyes blood red. "I just have to hit every one of you."
"Is that so?" Munoz flinched when he heard Ava’s voice from behind.
He turned, but nothing was there.
He inhaled the air.
He was certain that Ava was behind him earlier. But now, her smell was weaker. They were scattered. It was as if she was occupying the whole stage where they were fighting.
"Is that the only thing you could do?" Ava echoed inside his head. "Growl? What a dog."
"You — " the veins in Munoz’s head bulge, threatening to burst anytime now. His already fast heartbeat hammered against his chest as humiliation and anger filled his head.
He wanted to kill the woman!
Damnit!
He expected a weaker witch since she was young.
But he forgot one thing.
Matthew was the future King!
There was no way he would choose a weaker witch.
However, these thoughts didn’t linger in his head as he thought of the powerful Elizabeth and her mother. Then he thought of the current King and Queen. There was no way that they would pick a strong witch for Matthew now that he was out of the palace.
That would only threaten the King’s power.
After all, Matthew’s anger towards his own father was evident.
So... just where did this witch come from?
His gaze darkened.
He needed to inform them about this woman!
It would be dangerous to let her live!
"Your thoughts were too loud," he flinched and turned around when he heard Ava’s voice behind him. This time, she sounded and smelled so close that it felt like she was whispering in his ear.
"Fuck you!" he yelled in anger.
"Show me your real face, witch! I swear..."
Ava snorted. freēwebnovel.com
"You swear what?" Ava asked as she appeared in front of him. When he tried to attack her, she vanished once again.
Irritated, he started attacking the other mirages.
But they would just vanish into thin air once his fist or leg hits them.
Fighting against the trick is hard.
And Munoz was aware of this.
But he wasn’t going to shame the nobles.
No. They will be the King’s strongest guard!
They—
"Oh?" Ava’s voice echoed. Yes. This time, it echoed inside the whole training ground. Munoz frowned. Then he turned to his left and right.
Soon, he realized something.
He was alone on the stage.
No. He wasn’t just alone on the stage.
He was alone inside the whole training ground.
He immediately stopped moving.
"Illusion?" he gasped as he tried to pinch his arm. A witch that could do this type of illusion was rare. After all, illusions usually take a long time to cast.
Just when did the witch cast it?
He gritted his teeth, extremely angry.
He was not going to make that witch put the nobles to shame!
"Too late," Ava’s words were followed by her condescending laughter. "I knew you were different. It turns out... your loyalty does not lie with Matthew alone."
"You— ’ how the hell did the witch know?
"Oh... I know." Ava let out another laugh.
Munoz shivered in response.
Since he became a warrior approximately forty years ago, this was the first time that he encountered an illusion as realistic as this.
"If you want to fight then let me out you coward!" he fumed.
"If I am a coward then... what are you?" Ava scoffed. "Right, you are a stupid dog. But I can’t even call you a dog, can I? After all... Dogs are loyal and you are not."
