"You— "
Ava scoffed at the woman. Then her gaze turned towards Matthew. She wondered if the man would stop the match. Is he going to save his subordinate?
Is he going to save a spy?
Ava squinted.
From the way that Matthew let this fight happen, she figured that Matthew actually knew that Munoz was reporting his movements to his parents.
There was no way that Matthew missed this spy.
So, there were only two reasons why he was letting this man work under him.
First, he wanted him to report to his parents.
Second, he can’t touch this person and cause another problem.
She lifted her chin, silently challenging Matthew to make his move.
The man was also staring at her and for a few seconds, she could feel the thick electricity course in between them. Excitement bubbled inside her as her red lips lifted into a sadistic smirk.
"That’s enough."
Matthew said.
Ava didn’t miss the relief from the other Lycans. They must have trusted Matthew to stop the fight.
"Alright," Ava casually responded. She snapped her finger and Munoz stop moving. He was still breathing, heavily. "Say something, everyone thinks you’re dead." Ava taunted. "Visit the mansion tomorrow. You will be working for me from now on."
Without sparing the man another glance, she walked down the platform and to Matthew’s side.
"Your highness?" she said.
Matthew blinked at her. He nodded and turned toward his subordinates. His gaze landed on Munoz whose eyes were already open. He was still staring blankly at the ceiling, his face pale, his fists clenched.
"Listen to her words," Matthew said. Then he turned around and walked ahead of Ava.
Of course, Ava took this opportunity to smile at everyone.
"I hope you already know the reason why... I won’t train with you."
Many of them were glaring at her. They hated her from the moment Matthew introduced her as his witch. Ava didn’t care then... and she didn’t care now. It was just not worth it.
She was not some hero who was going to aim to change everyone’s opinion about the witches. Their opinion had nothing to do with her.
"Are you upset that I hurt your subordinate?" Ava asked the moment they were already inside the elevator.
Instead of saying a word, Matthew pressed a button and the elevator stopped moving.
"Blind them..." Matthew said.
She grinned and waved at the camera. From now on, the camera wouldn’t be able to capture them and hear what they were talking about.
"You looked pissed."
"You were careless!" Matthew’s hands were in his pockets.
"You didn’t want me to fight?"
"No, This isn’t about the fight."
"Then?"
"I don’t want them to look at you like that."
"What?" Look at her like what?
"Like a damn monster." He gritted his teeth. "You shouldn’t have shown off your magick. Now they are going to think I chose you because of that."
"What does it have to do with me?"
"You still don’t understand."
"Then make me." She didn’t grow up in a royal family. She didn’t grow up scheming against people. She was just a small witch who never met her real mother. A girl who lost her father when she was seven. A girl was thrown into the system where Gabriella found her and adopted her.
She fought to survive every day.
Matthew ran his fingers through his ink-black hair, frustration oozed out of his body. Ava didn’t know if he was frustrated because she was a little dumb or because... of something else.
"I don’t want them to think of you that way."
"Matthew... " Ava wanted to say that they weren’t wrong. She was a monster. A witch who couldn’t even control her ability is a monster. And she was that kind of witch. Standing in front of him, Ava lifted her gaze and touched her arm.
"I don’t care," Ava said. Though, she understood a wolf’s need to protect and shelter its mate. But she wasn’t just any mate. She was not a princess. Was she supposed to stand in there while her prince charming fought for her?
Nope.
She would grab a sword and join that fight.
"I would never care about other people’s opinion." She didn’t know where she got the courage when she added, "I only care about yours."
That sounded cheesy. Too cheesy. She cringed inwardly.
She was about to take a step back and wallow from her embarrassing words when Matthew held both of her wrists.
He chuckled.
"Tall trees attract strong winds, Ava. I don’t want that to happen."
"I am not alone Matthew," she said. "I have you."
Fuck!
Why was she saying these things?
She felt her cheeks burn and his chuckles only grew louder. That was cringe as hell. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
Before Matthew could say another word, Ava smiled.
"I’m hungry." This was her attempt to change the subject. "All that blood made me hungry."
She was waiting for him to ask her what she liked to eat as normal people do. But his expression was telling her that he had a different thing in his head.
"Hungry... " He was still angry and frustrated but something else had been awakened inside him. "Hungry for what?" He lifted an eyebrow.
"Oh hell no." She couldn’t help but giggle as she turned her head away. Was it weird that her pussy clenched just from those words? "Matthew...."
He lifted her butt her legs instinctively wrapped around his waist.
She wasn’t really hungry but she wouldn’t mind eating something or in this case... him. She shook her head but Matthew was already holding her chin. He lifted it up and before he kissed her, he whispered.
"Just like you... I’m starving."
"Uhhh....
It was too late for her to say another word.
His lips were already on top of hers, kissing and biting.
The pain made her jolt.
"Next time you will not do anything dangerous." He managed to say in between the kisses. "I am supposed to protect you dammit!"
She closed her eyes, her hands tangled in his messy hair.
"You can’t stop me from doing what I want Matthew." They were mates. She was his mate. Not his slave.
"Then I guess I would have to prepare some punishments in advance."
She snorted at that. She rested her forehead against his.
Her gaze darkened.
"I’m excited."
"To be punished?" he lifted an eyebrow.
She snorted again. "Silly... I am excited to be fucked."
