"I don’t understand." Ava didn’t even blink. She met Matthew’s eyes. "What do you mean?"
"Ava? I can literally feel that you are lying." Matthew’s lips were thinned into a straight line.
"You can?" That was new? She thought she was good at blocking whatever telepathy that they had. Did she fail? She couldn’t help but wonder if this was because of the training that Baba gave her.
Until now, she couldn’t hold the candle steady for a minute.
She’s failing at it.
And she couldn’t understand why.
"I can," Matthew wiped his sweat and sat opposite her in a lotus position. "And I also understand why you are trying to hide it."
"Do you?" Ava asked. If he did then...
"So, I am not forcing you to tell me anything."
Ava felt her throat become drier. Why does she feel guilty?
"I know you don’t totally trust me... yet." Matthew continued. Ava awkwardly stared at the man in front of her. He looked perfect, especially now that he was shirtless. He was sitting calmly in front of her without an iota of anger on his face. Even though his partner had been hiding something important from him, Matthew actually didn’t get mad.
To make sure that she could understand his feelings, he suddenly stopped blocking his senses. Tumultuous emotions hit her. She immediately frowned and managed to calm her senses.
She had been too used to the quiet around him.
Since Matthew started blocking his thoughts and emotions, Ava couldn’t feel anything from the man. And she actually loved it. She had forgotten that Matthew was one of the most complex and emotional people that she had met in the past.
She massaged her temples. She knew that a headache was coming.
"This relationship... is a process."
"A process?" Ava asked.
"My wolf always tells me to make you submit. You are ours... and I know that is a little hard to comprehend. But I am not letting him do that."
"I know." Sometimes, when they are having sex, Matthew’s wolf would take over. She could feel its possessive gaze. It was as if the beast wanted to devour her and keep her in its stomach.
But Matthew would immediately subdue it.
Ava knew this must be tiring. She truly appreciated Matthew’s attempt to tame it.
"But I want this to be a real relationship."
"A real relationship?"
"I haven’t had one," Matthew said. "So I can’t tell what is real and what is not."
Then...
Matthew’s eyes turned gentle as he continued, "But I want us to be real. I want us to stay together not just because we are mates but because both of us like each other’s company. Because we like to be together."
Ava’s lips twitched. This man... was really serious about their relationship.
While she had been with Broody in the past, she had never experienced any serious conversations like these. So... she didn’t know what to say. Should she comfort him? Assure him that she wanted that too?
In the end, she opened her mouth and said one word.
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"Yes, Okay." Ava nodded.
Matthew chuckled.
"Okay, what?"
Ava blinked in response. She cleared her throat and said, "I want a serious relationship too." Surely, she wanted something more than his dick, right?
As if sensing her thoughts, Matthew gave a helpless laugh. He stared at the ceiling as if silently asking the gods if they really made the right decision by giving him a mate like her.
Then he shook his head and suddenly leaned forward to kiss her lips.
The kiss was quick, it was more like a stolen kiss, a peck.
But Ava liked it. She beamed like a child who just got her candy.
"Will you tell me about it when you finally trust me?" Matthew asked.
"I will tell you everything, then."
Matthew nodded. Then out of nowhere, he handed her a USB.
"Good," he said.
"What’s this?" she stared at the flashdrive and then towards Matthew.
"Your new job. You are working with me from now on. You will never leave my sight and will always accompany me."
"That’s a little too much, isn’t it?"
"It’s practice."
"Practice?"
"You will do that once you marry me. So, we should let you get used to it, no?"
Marriage?
Ava gulped.
Matthew’s nonchalant shrug caught her off guard.
But before she could ask him about it, Matthew already got up and told her she could join him... in the shower. If she wanted to.
Before she could say anything, Matthew already left the room with a huge smile on his face.
Ava stared at the flashdrive for a few seconds, wondering what she would do next.
Shaking her head, she got up and found her laptop. She plugged in the flashdrive and soon, her eyes widened at the amount of information that she needed to study for this new job.
Just reading about it was making her head hurt. She didn’t know that being an executive assistant could be a very tiring job!
In the first place, she didn’t study anything about this. Meaning she needed to start from scratch!
After a few minutes of reading, Marko suddenly arrived telling her that he would be helping her if she had questions.
"What is this?" Ava lifted an eyebrow when Marko Calida handed her a key.
"The replacement car."
"From Kieran Graydon?"
"No. It was from the master."
"Then I am not accepting it," Ava said. "I need something from that Kieran. He ruined my car."
"The master wouldn’t let you accept a gift from his highness, Kieran. He sent everything that Mr. Kieran sent back and asked him to give him money instead."
"Then where is the money?" Ava’s question seemed to make Marko speechless.
"Madam, if you need the money we have a separate account under your name. You can use it if you need to."
"An account number?" Ava asked. "What account number?"
Again, Marko was speechless. He blinked then he blinked again.
"Didn’t Master tell you about the money?"
"Money?" Ava asked. "What money?"
