The Cloud-Ascending Beast's eyes immediately revealed a human-like look of confusion as it turned its head to carefully examine Wang Yao.
"Hehe, this guy likes you. It rarely barks, only when it senses an immortal approaching. It also rarely licks immortals; licking you means it likes you," the fairy maiden said with a smile, sitting on the back of the Cloud-Ascending Beast.
"Um... I'm sorry, there are too many ill-intentioned guys around me, so I can't let my guard down," Wang Yao said apologetically to the giant beast.
"Hurry up and get on. It's the most convenient way to find immortals on this cloud-riding beast. What are you busy with? You've disappeared in the blink of an eye," the fairy said.
“I… that old bastard King Biancheng left in too much of a hurry. These animals have no food left here. I released them, otherwise they would all starve to death,” Wang Yao said.
"You still have time to worry about these things? Honestly, hurry up and get on the bus. Let's find Cao Xian and get out of here as soon as possible," the fairy said, pouting.
“Go up? It’s so high…” Wang Yao scratched his head, looking at the imposing figure of the Cloud-Climbing Beast.
"Oh dear, what's the trouble? You... look, look, it's lying down, it's lying down..." The fairy was about to complain to Wang Yao, but unexpectedly, the Cloud-Ascending Beast seemed to know that Wang Yao wanted to ride it, and it slowly lay down. Even the fairy couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
Although the Cloud-Ascending Beast still looked majestic when it lay down, its joints and the muscles piled up on its body made it easy for Wang Yao to step on it. He climbed onto the Cloud-Ascending Beast's back without much effort.
The back of this Cloud-Ascending Beast was quite broad, like a giant Simmons mattress. Even with Wang Yao sitting cross-legged on it, there was still plenty of space.
"My darling, let's go find the immortals!" the fairy said, patting the horns of the Cloud-Ascending Beast.
The Cloud-Ascending Beast slowly rose up. Wang Yao felt the beast's body getting higher and higher. Before he knew it, it was already rising into the air. He saw its big head slowly sway, its four hooves kicking, and a sudden gust of wind rose. It was already gliding in the air.
Wang Yao, perched on the back of the Cloud-Ascending Beast, looked down its side and found that the beast flew very steadily. Although the wind was quite loud, it did not affect the stability of his vision.
From this vantage point, Wang Yao realized that beneath his feet lay an endless complex of buildings, and their "Hundred Beasts Garden" was merely a corner of this complex.
Further in, amidst lush greenery and blooming flowers, countless pavilions and towers, each with its own unique shape and intricate design, and there are also quite a few lakes like those in the "Venice of the Wild".
"This...this is all the royal palace of King Biancheng?" Wang Yao looked at the area under his feet. The pavilions and towers stretched out and were no smaller than the area of a capital city in the human realm. He couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement.
"Probably. There are only ten royal mansions in the entire Upper Eighteen Floors, so it's not surprising that each mansion is a bit large," the fairy said from the side. "I really didn't expect that these Yama Kings are so extravagant. Their lives are far better than even the Heavenly Emperor's."
"How about it? If we call Lü Xian to be the King of Hell, then you can also occupy a palace down there," Wang Yao laughed.
"Pah! With a cunning fairy like you under my old master Lu's command, who knows what other vixens live in the Prince's mansion." The fairy spat at Wang Yao, then looked listlessly into the distance.
"Among my eight siblings, Old Li and Cao Xian loved me the most. I wonder where Cao Xian is now?"
"By the way, I saw that as soon as you heard that Cao Xian was trapped on the eighteenth floor, you immediately risked your life to save him. You and Cao Xian must have a very good relationship, right?" Wang Yao asked.
"Of course, haven't you heard the story of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea in the mortal realm?" The fairy glanced at Wang Yao, then raised her head, her eyes filled with deep nostalgia.
"The Eight Immortals refers to us. Besides my old Lu and me, there's also Cao Xian, Lao Li, Xiao Lan, Zhong Li, Guo Lao, Xiao Han, and the others. Back in the day, we cultivated together and roamed the Six Realms. We were truly carefree and unrestrained."
"But later, the Heavenly Emperor rose to power, and a struggle broke out in the Heavenly Court. We disagreed on what to do..." The fairy shook her head slightly.
"Remember what I said: when you're friends, you must be pure. Don't mix in any interests or ideologies. If you do, you're no longer friends; you're just a gang."
Seeing that the fairy maiden looked somewhat depressed, Wang Yao guessed that something must have happened among the Eight Immortals back then. Now, Immortal Cao, Immortal Lü, and the fairy maiden were serving in the Heavenly Court, but he didn't know what the other five were doing. He wanted to ask, but suddenly he heard the cloud-riding beast he was sitting on roar again.
"We've found an immortal!" The fairy maiden perked up, turned around, and peeked down from beside the head of the Cloud-Ascending Beast. Wang Yao also turned to the side to search downwards.
Below were two magnificent halls, with a large plaza between them. In the center of the plaza stood an immortal, seemingly lost in thought, motionless.
"It's not Cao Xian, go down and ask." The fairy gently patted the horn of the Cloud-Ascending Beast, and the beast immediately turned and swooped down.
Wang Yao saw that the immortal standing in the square was a young man with somewhat hazy eyes, as if he had already seen the Cloud Ascending Beast. He did not make any move to dodge, but just stood there watching the Cloud Ascending Beast pounce on him.
The cloud-climbing beast was still several meters away from the immortal's head when it suddenly stopped and then swayed upwards again.
"There's a corpse aura down there, and the Cloud-Ascending Beast refuses to go down. Let's go down and take a look."
The fairy maiden leaped up and landed lightly on the square. Wang Yao wanted to jump too, but suddenly remembered that he didn't have such a light-body magic. If he jumped, he would probably fall flat on his face. Just as he was hesitating, he heard voices coming from below.
