Having thought it through, Wang Yao immediately relaxed. He first observed the surrounding environment to make sure that no more demons had taken root nearby, then lay down in a clump of bushes. The bushes were lush and the grass on the ground was tall. Once Wang Yao lay down, he was completely hidden by the branches and leaves and could not be easily spotted.
He huddled in the grass, lost in thought. This hiding was still not enough for him. He couldn't use his "sensing" ability, so he needed to find a way to create a perimeter around himself that could provide timely warnings and allow him to move around at any time.
This circle also needs to be large enough to give myself time to react if I encounter an enemy.
Upon realizing this, Wang Yao immediately sat up. If he intended to hide in this forest where demons had already proliferated, he had to make preparations immediately. This was no safe place. He didn't want to regret it when his enemies got close to him; that would be too late.
However, he didn't have any usable items at hand, so it was quite difficult to set up a warning circle without using immortal magic. After thinking for a long time, he decided to dig a series of traps around his location. Once a god or demon approached and stepped on the trap, there would naturally be a commotion.
Having decided on this approach, he first walked a hundred meters in one direction, looked around, and still felt that the warning range was too small, so he walked forward for about a hundred meters more, only to find that there were already inferior demons taking root there not far away.
Wang Yao quickly and cautiously changed direction. Damn it, the lesser demons were so close. The place he had originally chosen was obviously not suitable for hiding. He should choose another location.
As he wandered around searching, Wang Yao discovered that although the lesser demons were scattered here, it was extremely difficult to find a suitable hiding place where they had not taken root.
"Damn it, how could this happen?" Wang Yao was extremely annoyed. Did he have to continue south and get out of this forest? He muttered to himself as he carefully observed his footing to avoid accidentally bumping into the lesser demon.
Suddenly, he stopped again. He saw a pair of bright black eyes staring intently at him from the bushes ahead. "Holy crap!" Wang Yao was almost startled. He stood there for a moment to calm himself down, hesitated for a moment, and then tiptoed closer.
Upon seeing the man's attire in the bushes, Wang Yao was certain that he was also a villager of Dark Moon Village. However, he was covered in blood and wounds, and some of the wounds even smelled of decay, indicating that he had been injured for quite some time.
"Help...help..." The villager was not old, at most in his twenties. His chapped lips moved as he struggled to utter a series of intermittent cries for help to Wang Yao.
"Shh..." Wang Yao raised a finger to signal the villager to be quiet. He roughly checked the villager's injuries. His two legs were limp, probably broken. But the most serious injury was a sharp claw wound on his chest and abdomen, which almost disemboweled him.
Wang Yao saw that his hands were covered in mud, and his fingertips were worn down to reveal shocking white bones. He guessed that he must have been crawling on the ground for a long time and was now exhausted, making it difficult for him to crawl to the cave entrance.
Moreover, even if he manages to climb to the cave entrance, unless Instructor Tao comes to his aid, he will not be able to return to the village through the secret passage in his current state.
Looking up, Wang Yao glanced hesitantly at Optimus Prime. Instructor Tao wasn't searching in this direction. If he didn't save him, he didn't know when Instructor Tao would find this place. Judging from the man's injuries, it was hard to say how long he could hold on.
But if I rescue this person and bring them back to the cave entrance, but they never come back to Instructor Tao, wouldn't I have to send them back up the mountain? Once they're up there, will I be able to come down again?
That Mr. Zuo doesn't seem like someone you can easily negotiate with. The village is short-handed, and if he tries to use the excuse of keeping a secret to force me to stay and work as a long-term laborer in Darkmoon Village, that would be quite troublesome. I can't just sit in Darkmoon Village waiting for the hunters to come to me.
However, I have been searching around at the foot of the mountain for a long time and still haven't found a suitable place to hide. Besides, I am indeed lacking a lot of materials if I don't use magic to set up a warning circle. I should check if there are any in Darkmoon Village.
The materials for setting up the warning circle shouldn't be as expensive as a sampan. At worst, I can work in the village for a few days, earn some contribution points, and buy them. Then I can think about going down the mountain. At least I'll have Instructor Tao's help. Even without Instructor Tao, I, this immortal, am not someone to be trifled with.
Now that I know about the secret passage, I have the right to use my own legs. If Mr. Zuo doesn't agree, I'll just walk through it myself.
After much deliberation, Wang Yao finally made up his mind. He carefully dragged the seriously injured villager to his feet and turned to walk back.
His memory was excellent, and he avoided all the places where the evil spirits were rooted along the way. In order to minimize the disturbance, he walked very slowly, and did not return to the entrance of the secret passage until the sun was setting.
After setting the villager down at the cave entrance, Wang Yao waited there for a while. Seeing that it was getting dark and he still hadn't seen Tao Jiaotou, he had no choice but to tear off a few strips of cloth from the villager's body, tie the villager to his back, and carry the villager up the secret passage.
Although the journey was upward, Wang Yao was, after all, an immortal. He didn't feel tired at all while carrying someone on his back. On the contrary, he felt more and more energetic as he climbed. Before he knew it, he had passed through two caves. He was about to go into the third cave along the path on the mountain wall when a dark figure suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Who?" the dark figure shouted.
"I saved a divine being. See if he's from your village," Wang Yao replied, stopping in his tracks.
"You...?" The other person seemed confused, as if they didn't understand Wang Yao's meaning.
"Damn it, Li Laicai, what are you doing here instead of practicing your skills?" Wang Yao shouted. He had already recognized the figure in the shadows.
