Around noon, a dark cloud drifted in from afar across the clear sky.
"Looks like it's going to rain," the manager of the snack shop branch said mysteriously.
Outside the clean window, the clear sky was stained black by dark clouds.
Ji Xiaoxiao glanced through the financial report and saw that the branch's revenue was increasing month by month, and the customer traffic and repeat customer rate were growing steadily. The branch manager deserved a lot of credit for this.
"You're good."
Subsequently, Ji Xiaoxiao decided to increase the year-end bonus for this branch.
"Thank you, Sister Xia, thank you, Sister Xia."
Ji Xiaoxiao talked with the branch manager for a while longer before heading home.
"Sister Xia, wait a minute, you left your phone in the restroom."
The branch manager rushed out and returned the phone to Ji Xiaoxiao.
Ji Xiaoxiao thanked him, took back her phone, and stuffed it directly into her bag.
"Well then, goodbye, Sister Xia."
Ji Xiaoxiao waved her hand, turned around, and walked into the bustling street.
This neighborhood is the most bustling area in X city. From 1 a.m. to midnight, the roads are constantly flowing, the crowds are packed, the lights of the high-rise buildings are flashing, and commuters rush to work one after another, eating fast food to fill their stomachs.
"Excuse me." Just then, a man in a suit and collar bumped into Ji Xiaoxiao.
Ji Xiaoxiao glanced at the man in the suit and felt that she had seen him before.
"Is it a Kongmin?" Ji Xiaoxiao murmured.
Ji Xiaoxin was puzzled and followed the man as he walked away. She saw the man in the suit stop outside a Western restaurant, and a stylish woman in a white dress rushed into his arms. The two of them were very affectionate and whispered sweet nothings to each other.
No, it won't.
They're a couple, and Kongmin wouldn't cheat on someone else.
Ji Xiaoxiao chuckled softly at her own neuroticism, then turned and continued on her way.
But Ji Xiaoxiao would never know that after she turned around, the man in the suit breathed a sigh of relief, his gaze towards her complex and unfathomable, a mixture of love, resentment, and helplessness.
Ji Xiaoxiao stood by the driveway and waved, hoping to get a taxi back, but due to the bad weather, the number of people hailing taxis had increased exponentially.
"Damn it, this old car never breaks down, of all times it has to break down when I'm inspecting the branch."
It was already 6 p.m. when we left the branch store, and Xiao Bao had already returned.
Ji Xiaoxiao took out her phone from her bag, intending to call Xia Xiu and tell him to take Xiaobao to eat first and not wait for her.
The phone screen lit up instantly, and Ji Xiaoxiao saw a text message.
"Sent by Xiao Xiu."
Ji Xiaoxiao opened the text message, read it, and felt her hands and feet turn ice cold.
"Lin Mu took Xiao Bao away? Xiao Xiu went there alone?"
These two people are crucial to the success of the mission, and absolutely no mistakes can be tolerated.
A deafening roar erupted, and a silver streak flashed across the dark sky.
The rain was drizzling down, and pedestrians rushed to shops on the street to take shelter from the rain.
Ji Xiaoxiao stood still, raindrops hitting the screen of her phone, blurring the contents of the text message.
Why is that person just standing there without moving?
Some people found it strange, but none of them intended to offer a helping hand.
Two minutes later, Ji Xiaoxiao got into a taxi, gave the driver her address, and the driver set off.
Forty minutes later, Ji Xiaoxiao arrived outside the warehouse.
"Xiao Xiu, Xiao Bao."
The warehouse was dark and gloomy, and Ji Xiaoxiao walked carefully.
Ji Xiaoxiao twitched her nose and smelled the scent of blood.
"There are people injured."
Ji Xiaoxiao prayed silently, hoping it wasn't Xia Xiu or Xiao Bao.
After searching the warehouse, aside from a few pools of blood on the ground, Ji Xiaoxiao couldn't find anyone.
Ji Xiaoxiao took out her phone and dialed Xia Xiu's number, but no one answered. It was clear that Xia Xiu had not managed to escape and had probably fallen into Lin Mu's hands.
Lin Mu captured Xia Xiu with the intention of getting an organ transplant for his son. Lin Bin could continue living, but Xia Xiu was doomed to die.
"Hello, is this the police? I need to report a crime. My brother..."
For someone as small and weak as her, finding Xia Xiu and Xiao Bao in the vast sea of people was like searching for a needle in a haystack—a pipe dream.
Half an hour later, police sirens sounded outside the warehouse.
Ji Xiaoxiao came out and proactively told the police everything.
Upon learning of Lin Mu's plans, the first thing the police did was to detain Lin Bin. All of Lin Mu's actions were for Lin Bin's benefit. By controlling Lin Bin, Lin Mu would naturally be more cautious and hesitant to act further.
Ji Xiaoxiao had investigated Lin Mu. In order to provide Lin Bin with the best medical care, Lin Mu arranged for Lin Bin to receive treatment at the largest hospital in X City. This small matter was not difficult to find out.
"Ms. Xia, thank you so much for the clue you provided. We have already sent someone to xx Hospital."
Ji Xiaoxiao suppressed her anxiety and waited patiently for good news from the police.
On the other side, Lin Mu received a message from "Xia Qing" calling the police. He was furious and angrily smashed the beer bottle next to him.
"Damn woman, I really regret marrying her."
The howling of wind and rain came from outside, and the cold drizzle seeped into the house through the cracks.
In the corner of the room, Xia Xiu lay half-dead on the floor, his handsome face devoid of color, his clean clothes now filthy with blood and mud. Xiao Bao sat beside Xia Xiu, his little mouth tightly shut, his chubby little hands gripping Xia Xiu's clothes tightly, his back pressed against Xia Xiu as much as possible. Unable to feel his uncle's warmth, Xiao Bao cried incessantly.
With a creak, the wooden door to the room opened, and a man in white stepped out.
"Is the surgery possible now?" Lin Mu asked.
The man in white said, "No, things are too tense right now."
"No? You're telling me no?" Lin Mu grabbed the white-clad man's collar, glared at him, and gritted his teeth. "I paid you so much money, and you're telling me no?"
