Jian Zhizhen said in a flat tone, "I'm going to sleep."
Her voice was much clearer than before.
Li Nanyan had anticipated her attitude, but he still wanted to clarify some things: "Can you give me five minutes? I'm planning to leave the entertainment industry. I don't have any friends in the industry, and there are some things I don't understand. I'd like to ask you for advice."
After a moment of silence, Jian Zhizhen still didn't hang up: "What is it?"
Li Nanyan's tone was extremely humble: "I just want to ask you, where did I go wrong the most? Was it when I told you to get out of the first episode, or when I pinned you against the wall a few days ago and said those domineering things? Or was it that I've always been servile, obsequious, and impolite?"
Jian Zhizhen's voice was calm: "Haven't you already realized where you went wrong?"
Li Nanyan gave a bitter laugh: "But do my mistakes require me to end my entire career and ruin my entire future to make amends?"
“…” Jian Zhizhen remained silent.
She really didn't know how to face Li Nanyan.
In fact, there was no major grudge between them, let alone any hatred.
However, she is not a judge, and it is not her place to worry about how to make a fair judgment.
She wasn't his friend either, so she couldn't offer any words of comfort.
She was quite surprised that Li Nanyan had to specifically tell her about his retirement from the entertainment industry.
Li Nanyan continued, "And Zhai Qinghe, have you heard? She suffered from severe oxygen deprivation to her brain, and it's uncertain when she'll wake up. But she deserves it; she's really annoying. Last time, she directed Xie Anxia to sabotage your invention, stole exam questions, and she's always competing with you privately, even hiring online trolls to smear you..."
Li Nanyan silently listed a whole bunch of wrong things Zhai Qinghe had done.
He didn't know any of this at first.
He saw what others were saying online when he was browsing the internet just now.
After listing a bunch of mistakes, he asked Jian Zhizhen, "But to be fair, the law wouldn't sentence her to such a severe punishment for these wrongdoings, would it?"
"..." Jian Zhizhen still didn't know how to respond to him.
Whether it's Li Nanyan or Zhai Qinghe, in her heart they're similar to some of her former classmates with whom she had conflicts.
I do dislike them, but I wouldn't say I wish they were dead. I'll just never contact them again.
So she felt very sad about this ending.
After a half-minute silence, Li Nanyan continued, "Actually, you also think it's not that serious, right? But you don't need to stand up for us 'villains'. You don't need to show us even a little bit of sympathy or forgiveness. You have unlimited glory and unlimited attention, and everything you do will be magnified and distorted infinitely."
He seemed to know that he had overstepped his bounds with his words today.
He suddenly laughed, feigning nonchalance, and said, "Jian Zhizhen, I know you did nothing wrong from beginning to end. Zhai Qinghe and I deserved this fate; these are lessons adults should learn for making mistakes. Don't take what I said tonight to heart. I will be leaving the entertainment industry. Goodbye..."
He paused, then changed his mind, "No, we probably won't see each other again."
He didn't wait for Jian Zhizhen's response and hung up the phone.
He glanced at the time; it was already past midnight, time to go home.
He wasn't so short of money that he didn't even have enough for a taxi home, so he hailed one.
After waiting for three minutes, the car still hadn't arrived.
Normally, Li Nanyan would definitely have gotten angry.
But today, he wasn't in the mood to get angry.
However, he received a call from the driver who had accepted his order. The driver was very apologetic: "I'm so sorry, it's my first time driving here, I took the wrong route."
Li Nanyan has nothing to worry about.
He can go home and get a very, very long sleep now.
There's nothing to rush about anymore.
He said calmly, "It's okay, take your time, I'm not in a hurry."
The driver was immediately filled with gratitude and thanked him repeatedly, saying, "Thank you, thank you so much."
When Li Nanyan heard the driver's sincere and simple thanks, his heart felt like it had been hit hard with a stick, and he felt a sharp pain.
He didn't cry when he decided to leave the entertainment industry, nor did he cry when he felt lost afterward.
But upon hearing that "thank you," tears instantly streamed down my face.
He has a bad temper, is arrogant and conceited.
He was impolite to his colleagues, assistants, and even to Chien Chih-chen and Hsu Chiu-yuan on the show. I've hardly ever heard him say "thank you" in my life.
But now, he thinks that sentence sounds really nice.
The effects of forces are truly reciprocal; the more goodwill one invests in the world, the more goodwill the world will reciprocate.
But now that we know this, it's too late.
If he hadn't entered the entertainment industry so early, his career wouldn't have been so smooth at first.
Rather, they have been tempered and trained in society.
Then, wouldn't his mindset be less impetuous?
Is he truly able to live up to his persona and be a gentleman?
He waited for a while, and then the driver finally arrived.
The driver, a middle-aged man, didn't recognize him as a "big star." He treated him like any other customer, apologizing as he got out of the car to help him with his luggage.
Li Nanyan got into the car and gave his home address.
After the car drove away, he stared blankly out the window at the bustling traffic.
He didn't study hard when he was young and never memorized any texts.
However, at that moment, a sentence from a primary school textbook popped into his mind: "He became just another ordinary person."
Early fame can bring immense glory, but it can also easily destroy a person.
Hopefully, he can get used to being an ordinary person in the future.
