Chapter 1270 Hidden Crisis

She hurriedly called the waiter and the ghost doctor over to check on her.

Upon seeing the corpse, the waiter's face turned deathly pale: "This...this corpse is missing a small section of its little finger...this must be Chef Wang!"

Xu Yuehuai's heart sank, but she tried her best to remain calm: "It seems that Chef Wang has been silenced. Waiter, you must not tell anyone else what happened today, otherwise I will not hold you responsible."

The waiter nodded repeatedly, his voice trembling, and said, "Don't worry, young lady, I will definitely not tell anyone else." After saying that, he left the scene, shaking.

The Ghost Doctor looked at Xu Yuehuai, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes: "What do you plan to do now?"

Xu Yuehuai said coldly, "The other party dared to poison me so blatantly, they must have something to rely on. Perhaps they know you are by my side, this is simply a provocation."

A cold glint flashed in her eyes. "We need to be careful."

The Ghost Doctor said, "I will investigate this matter secretly and see if I can find any clues."

“Yes, but it must be done in secret.” Xu Yuehuai turned and walked towards the room.

...

Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor quietly moved through the shadows of the inn, discussing various situations.

“Look, these people seem completely unaware of Chef Wang’s death.” Xu Yuehuai lowered her voice and pointed to the diners who were chatting and laughing.

Their smiles seemed like masks frozen on their faces, sending a chill down one's spine.

The Ghost Doctor looked around, his gaze finally settling on a man in the corner. The man had a strange smile on his lips, as if he were celebrating something.

“Indeed, this indifference is somewhat unusual,” the Ghost Doctor said in a deep voice, “especially that man, whose smile seems to hide some secret.”

Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor exchanged a glance and nodded in tacit agreement. They decided to investigate further and uncover the secrets behind the inn.

They then quietly began gathering clues. Every detail of the inn became the focus of their attention.

They discovered that the inn did indeed harbor a secret, and that the seemingly harmless diners might all be participants in this conspiracy.

...

As night fell, the moonlight was obscured by the clouds, leaving only a few faint starlight scattered on the quiet streets.

In a corner of the inn, two figures quietly emerged; they were Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor.

"Your Highness, are you sure this secret room is where the innkeeper hides his filth?" The Ghost Doctor's voice seemed to pierce through the night.

Xu Yuehuai's eyes were firm: "There's no mistake. I've been following him for days and discovered that he comes here every night. Tonight is the moment we uncover the truth."

The two pushed open the door to the secret room, which was only dimly lit by a few flickering oil lamps. The walls were covered with all sorts of strange talismans and paintings, giving off a sense of oppression and eeriness.

Suddenly, Xu Yuehuai's foot slipped, as if she had kicked something.

She looked down and saw an exquisite wooden box lying quietly on the ground, its lid slightly ajar, revealing a glimmer of gold.

"What is this?" The Ghost Doctor curiously approached, and the two of them squatted down together to examine the wooden box carefully.

The wooden box was carved with intricate patterns, every detail exquisitely crafted. They carefully opened it, revealing a thick stack of ledgers and some letters. The ledgers were densely covered with writing, recording various strange transactions and enormous sums of money. The letters contained detailed accounts of conspiracies and plans.

"It seems we've uncovered a tremendous secret." Xu Yuehuai frowned, as if deep in thought.

The Ghost Doctor was shocked: "This innkeeper is actually orchestrating such a huge conspiracy in secret! We have to tell the authorities right away!"

The two quickly stuffed the ledgers and letters into their pockets and prepared to leave the secret room.

However, just then, footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.

They were startled and quickly hid in a corner of the secret room.

A moment later, the door was pushed open, and a middle-aged man with a fat body and a fierce face walked in.

It was the innkeeper!

He looked around and breathed a sigh of relief after finding everything was normal.

"Hmph, they definitely won't find this place," the innkeeper muttered to himself, a smug smile on his face.

However, he did not notice the two angry and sharp gazes lurking in the corner.

Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with determination.

The Ghost Doctor, known in the martial arts world as the "Night-Walking Divine Doctor," is renowned for his exceptional medical skills and enigmatic actions. He stood in the corner, his deep eyes seemingly able to see into people's hearts. A slight smile played on his lips, as if he had long anticipated what was about to happen.

"Are you sure tonight's operation will be foolproof?" the Ghost Doctor asked softly, his voice deep and magnetic.

Xu Yuehuai gripped the dagger tightly. "Senior Ghost Doctor, I have been secretly investigating for many days. The innkeeper's death is inextricably linked to Chef Wang's death. Tonight, we must bring him to justice."

As soon as he finished speaking, the Ghost Doctor nodded slightly and quietly took out a packet of medicinal powder from his pocket. He blew on it gently, and a faint fragrance spread out, like spring flowers quietly blooming in the night.

The innkeeper, who was about to leave, frowned upon smelling the fragrance. He looked up in the direction of the Ghost Doctor and Xu Yuehuai, a sense of foreboding rising within him.

"Quick, come quickly—"

However, before he could call for help, the powder took effect quickly. He felt dizzy and his body went limp, causing him to collapse to the ground.

Upon seeing this, Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor immediately rushed forward. They quickly tied up the innkeeper and then, carrying the evidence, hurried to the government office that very night.

The government hall was brightly lit, and officials were busy handling official business. Everyone was quite surprised to see Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor enter with a bound person.

"What's going on?" an official stepped forward and asked.

Xu Yuehuai recounted the entire story in detail. The officials were greatly shocked upon hearing it and immediately sent men to arrest the innkeeper and imprison him.

Inside the interrogation room, the innkeeper was tied to a chair. His face was deathly pale, and his eyes were filled with terror. Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor stood opposite him, their expressions serious and their gazes cold.

"What right do you have to arrest me?" the innkeeper asked angrily.

Xu Yuehuai sneered: "You still want to get away with it? Your crimes have already been exposed, and we have found the key evidence. Chef Wang overheard your conspiracy by chance. He originally intended to expose you, but he didn't expect you to poison him to cover up your secret. However, the net of justice is wide and its meshes are fine, and you will eventually be caught in the net of justice."

The innkeeper remained silent after hearing this, knowing that his end had come.
