Chapter 109 (First Release)

Ning Wanwan was still staring at him blankly, not reacting for a long time.

Ansel grunted, seemingly too sleepy to keep his eyes open, and half-asleep, reached out and pulled Ning Wanwan into his arms.

Then, with practiced ease, he held her close and pulled the thick coats covering both of them even tighter around his neck.

Weren't we very close last night?

"It's so cold here."

"Okay, stop moving."

Ansel mumbled a few words and then fell back into a deep sleep.

Ning Wanwan: "..."

Ning Wanwan: "...!"

No, how come you're so skilled? Did you practice last night?

What did I do last night?!

Ning Wanwan silently covered her face, concealing her embarrassed and pained expression. She couldn't imagine what it would be like when Ansel woke up.

He might bring this up again and again, just like before!

The thought of facing such a scene made Ning Wanwan even more embarrassed; her scalp tingled with fear.

Especially now, her whole body felt incredibly warm, with a constant flow of heat coming from it, all thanks to Ansel's body heat as he held her tightly...

To be honest, it was really warm; the young man was very energetic.

Ning Wanwan almost wanted to just give up and continue sleeping.

With sheer willpower, Ning Wanwan managed to get up and move a few steps, but Ansel pulled her back and hugged her again.

"Don't move... go to sleep, sleep a little longer." Ansel's tired and weary voice sounded softly, "So tired... let me sleep for a while."

Compared to his usual clear and pure boyish voice, his voice now had a distinct morning hoarseness, as if he was truly exhausted.

It's understandable when you think about it. After all that trouble, I've already gotten myself into this state. Ansel has only done more than me, so it's normal to feel tired and sleepy.

It was especially obvious that the other person had taken care of me while I was sick last night...

If that's the case, then insisting on waking the other person up seems a bit too much...

Thinking of this, Ning Wanwan dared not move anymore.

But being in the arms of a strange man, feeling his rising and falling breaths, and being enveloped by his body temperature... Ning Wanwan felt extremely uncomfortable, like sitting on pins and needles, and stiffly waited for Ansel to wake up.

Then, as they waited and waited, Ansel still didn't wake up, so Ning Wanwan... fell asleep too.

When Ning Wanwan opened her eyes again, she was no longer faced with the awkward situation of being in someone's arms like before.

He was now all alone, and Anseil was standing not far away, straightening his clothes.

Ning Wanwan was still covered with Ansil's coat. She clutched the coat, slowly got up, and didn't know what to say for a moment.

Ansel turned his head, his expression unchanged, and greeted her with a bright smile: "Good morning, Wanwan!"

Ning Wanwan: "...Good morning."

"Wanwan, you were sick and had a fever last night. Are you alright now?" Ansel walked over and asked.

After straightening his clothes, he was once again a clean-cut, tall, and outstanding young man, completely different from the sullen and sleepy man he was yesterday.

Ning Wanwan touched her forehead and said, "Much better."

It's not just much better, it's like I woke up completely recovered. My body temperature should have returned to normal, and the dizziness and discomfort caused by the fever have subsided.

Is it really better?

Ansel seemed somewhat disbelieving. Suddenly, he bent down, paused, and awkwardly pressed his face against Ning Wanwan's forehead.

Ning Wanwan: "!"

I'm just fooling myself again!

but……

The two were extremely close at the moment, but there was surprisingly no hint of romance between them.

Because of this posture, Ning Wanwan inevitably got a full look at Ansel's expression.

The blond, handsome young man lowered his eyelashes slightly, his smile faded, and his violet eyes became unusually calm and focused, his brows furrowed as if he were carefully sensing something.

Ning Wanwan realized what was happening and tried to turn her head away, but Ansel cupped her face in his hands.

"Don't move! Be good, let me see if you still have a fever." Ansel warned with a stern face.

Then he repeatedly pressed his hand against her forehead, as if to confirm.

He was actually taking his temperature very seriously.

He was taking it too seriously, a bit like a child trying something for the first time, using all the techniques he'd learned from who-knows-where.

Ansel's earnestness made Ning Wanwan unable to bring herself to refuse.

After sticking it on for a while, Ansel got up and removed it.

"The fever has indeed subsided." He finally smiled, "Now I can finally relax."

The other party didn't mention anything else, such as that she had fallen asleep in his arms... This made Ning Wanwan secretly breathe a sigh of relief.

"Don't always come up to me all of a sudden..." Ning Wanwan couldn't help but complain softly.

Her voice was very soft; you might easily miss it if you weren't paying attention.

Ansel's hearing was also quite good; he heard Ning Wanwan's complaint, blinked, and showed a surprised expression: "Wanwan actually thinks that way?"

Ning Wanwan suddenly had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, the next second, Ansel dropped a bombshell: "But I prefer the way Wanwan snuggled into my arms last night."

Ning Wanwan: "!!"

Ansel gestured with his hands: "He looked incredibly cold, kept snuggling into my arms, complaining that I wasn't holding him tight enough, and kept saying how cold he was while shivering."

As he spoke, Ansel chuckled, "So pitiful, yet quite cute."

Ning Wanwan: "!!!"

Ansel sighed, "So I had no choice but to reluctantly hold you while I slept. I never expected that you would turn your back on me as soon as you woke up."

Ning Wanwan: "..."

Ansel: "Sigh, as expected, good deeds go unrewarded."

Ning Wanwan: "...Don't say anymore, I'm sorry, thank you."

The girl looked utterly dejected, her cheeks flushing red from his detailed description.

Ansel then took pity on her and shut up, preventing her from having to crawl into a hole and hide.

Ning Wanwan felt like she had been saved.

Ansel walked to the cave entrance, brushed aside some thick snow, peeked out of the cave, and quickly withdrew.

Looking at his blond hair, which was blown into a mess and covered in snowflakes, Ning Wanwan swallowed back the question she was about to ask if the blizzard had stopped.

It definitely hasn't stopped. She could still hear the howling wind outside.

Ning Wanwan: "What should we do next...?"

Ansel paused for a moment, his expression becoming slightly serious.

He glanced at the anxious girl but didn't say anything heavy: "Let's keep waiting. I have a feeling this blizzard will stop soon."

Ning Wanwan forced a smile: "Then... I'll trust your intuition."

Ning Wanwan really hoped that his intuition would come true.

However, things didn't go as planned. After who knows how many days, the blizzard outside showed no signs of stopping.

To make matters worse, Ansel's food supplies were also exhausted.

Ansel didn't mention this, but Ning Wanwan noticed it from his increasingly uneasy expression and by quietly observing his backpack.

Even so, Ansel still didn't tell Ning Wanwan this terrible news and continued to give her food every day.

Ning Wanwan: "Ansil, aren't you going to eat?"

Ansel shrugged: "I've already eaten."

"How come I didn't see it?" Ning Wanwan, unusually, did not give up but continued to ask.

Ansel: "Okay, I have to tell you, I ate it secretly while you were asleep... What kind of look is that? Do you think I would starve myself?"

Ning Wanwan was quite certain that Ansel had not eaten anything.

His increasingly pale face and gaunt features are proof of this.

Ning Wanwan was anxious seeing this and even wanted to force-feed Ansil.

But Ansel was always hungry and quite strong, so Ning Wanwan couldn't persuade him otherwise.

That devil started whispering in Ning Wanwan's ear again.

[He didn't want to eat it himself, why bother trying to persuade him?]

[It's good that he doesn't eat; all the food is left for you, so you can last longer and have a better chance of holding out until the snow stops.]

[There's nothing to feel guilty about; it was his own choice.]

[Didn't you say before that it wasn't time to make a choice yet?]

[Now is the time.]

Ning Wanwan ignored the whispering, dark demon in her mind that kept tempting her.

She looked at Ansel and finally couldn't hold back her tears any longer; they fell drop by drop.

"Ansel, why won't you eat?" Ning Wanwan grabbed him, preventing him from escaping.

The girl's tears fell onto Anseil's hand. Although the liquid was only slightly warm, it felt as if it were burning Anseil, making him shiver.

“I didn’t refuse to eat.” Ansel tried to argue, but Ning Wanwan glared at him fiercely with teary eyes, clearly not believing him.

Seeing that Ansil was still trying to get away with it, Ning Wanwan bit her lip and declared directly, "If you're not going to eat, then I'm not going to eat either!"

Ansel blinked: "Can you hold back?"

Ning Wanwan's face flushed red.

Actually, she had considered using this tactic before, but for some reason, her hunger was always very intense and unbearable here. Every time she reached a certain limit, she would almost lose her willpower and find it very difficult to control.

Not to mention, whenever this happens, Ansel would deliberately bring food to her mouth to tempt her.

By the time she came to her senses, she had already swallowed the food and couldn't vomit it up.

"I, I..." Ning Wanwan said firmly, "I can definitely hold back this time!"

Ansel couldn't help but laugh again.

After laughing, his expression suddenly turned serious, and he looked very solemn.

“I know you feel bad, but I'm in this situation, and I have more endurance and a stronger constitution than you. But you've just been sick, and without food, you simply won't make it.”

"Wanwan, we really don't have much food left, we have to use it sparingly."

Ning Wanwan fell silent, then opened her mouth again: "But..."

But how could anyone really resist eating?

“And Wanwan, you’re too naive.” Ansel suddenly lowered his voice meaningfully.

"Why don't you think I've been hoarding food?"
