Chapter 23 Ancient City Ruins

Ye Shuning drove the SUV out of the research institute and directly appeared in the desert. She started the car and drove out.

The off-road vehicle has a high chassis and can easily be driven in the desert.

If they encountered a sand dune that was too steep, they would park the car and walk across it. Ye Shuning felt that having this portable research institute space was really convenient.

Ye Shuning drove her car until it was nearly dead before going into the research institute to recharge it. She also needed to make herself something to eat. She checked her watch and saw that over four hours had passed, and she had actually walked over a hundred kilometers. Her speed wasn't slow in this rugged desert, but she didn't dare drive too fast.

Ye Shuning made herself a dish of shredded pork with fish sauce, an egg soup, and steamed a pot of rice. She ate the dishes and soup, leaving half of the rice for egg fried rice in the evening.

She didn't care about anything in her current situation, as long as she could eat her fill. Besides, the food she ate was already very good in this era.

After lunch, Ye Shuning boarded another off-road vehicle that had been prepared in advance and continued on her way through the desert. This time, she was extremely lucky and actually discovered the ruins of an ancient city.

Only a few ruins remained of the ancient city. Even so, Ye Shuning was happy. She parked her car and walked into the ruins, touching the eroded earthen walls with a wave of emotion.

Thousands of years ago, this place might have been a prosperous city, surrounded by lush vegetation. However, after human destruction and the retaliation of nature, it has become a desolate and vast desert with no vegetation and no human habitation.

Archaeologists in the future would be delighted to see these ruins. Perhaps they would become a tourist attraction. But she could explore them first.

In her previous life, she had no time to travel because of her busy work, but she didn’t expect that it would be possible now.

Without the support of the research institute, she would never have dared to venture into this vast desert alone. In this era, without a letter of introduction, it was impossible to move around freely, let alone have the opportunity to come to this desert.

She felt that this opportunity was rare and could not be missed, so she could take her time and enjoy it.

Ye Shuning was in a good mood as she visited this abandoned city forgotten in the desert, feeling the vicissitudes of historical changes.

She took out her cell phone and was taking pictures of the ancient city ruins when suddenly a mud wall not far away collapsed with a loud bang.

Ye Shuning looked at the place she had just walked through and was filled with fear. It seemed that visiting the ruins of this ancient city was also dangerous.

Ye Shuning walked to the collapsed earth wall and suddenly found that there seemed to be something under the wall.

She took out a shovel and walked in carefully to find that it was a stone slab with a metal ring embedded in it.

Ye Shuning started cleaning with a shovel, and soon a square stone slab appeared in front of her.

Ye Shuning was a little excited at the moment, wondering if there would be a surprise waiting for her. She carefully reached out and pulled the metal ring, but there was no movement.

She increased her strength and actually pulled the metal ring. Then she heard a noise and Ye Shuning quickly moved away.

She was surprised to see a hole suddenly appear on a protruding part of the collapsed earth wall. She did not check it immediately, but ran away and hid behind a wall to see if anything came out of the hole.

She saw in movies that in such situations, dangerous things like pythons and insects would often appear, so she had to be more careful.

After waiting for a long time and seeing nothing coming out of the cave, Ye Shuning slowed down her pace and walked carefully to the entrance. She found that there were stone steps extending underground, which seemed to indicate that there was something underneath.

Ye Shuning took out a flashlight and shone it downwards. There was nothing there but stone steps extending downwards.

Ye Shuning picked up a piece of earth and threw it down, listening to the sound of the earth rolling down and finally returning to calm, there was still no movement.

A strong curiosity drove Ye Shuning to take the risk and see what was going on below.

Ye Shuning didn't rush down. She went to her dormitory at the research institute and found suitable clothes. She put on her Martin boots, a hard hat, gloves, a mask, and a baseball bat. Ye Shuning arrived at the cave entrance almost fully armed.

After such a long time, there should be enough oxygen down there. She walked down the stone steps step by step with a flashlight in one hand and a baseball bat in the other.

After walking up dozens of stone steps, Ye Shuning finally reached the bottom. She could see clearly that there was a corridor below. There were exquisite murals on both sides of the corridor, but some of them had been eroded and fallen off.

Ye Shuning took out a digital camera and took pictures of all the murals as a souvenir.

Ye Shuning walked along the corridor for about ten meters before her vision suddenly opened up. She saw a room of about 100 square meters. There were stone pillars supporting the room, so it must be very solid.

The room was separated by a curtain. In the outer room, there was a stone table and a stone bench. On the stone table were two vessels that looked like wine glasses. However, they were covered with dust.

Ye Shuning walked in and found that the cup was golden in color, seemingly made of gold. There were also gems of several colors inlaid around the cup. It was obviously a good thing.

She was very excited and didn't expect that she could find treasures here.

Ye Shuning walked into the tent. There was a bed against the wall that could accommodate two people, but it was also a simple stone bed.

The things on the bed had all rotted into pieces and were of no value. Ye Shuning also found some daily necessities in the room, indicating that someone had lived here.

Ye Shuning took a flashlight and examined it carefully. She found that there were also murals on the walls of the room outside the curtain. From the content, it seemed that there was a celebration, and there were many figures painted on them.

When her flashlight passed over a wall, she seemed to see something reflecting light. She took the flashlight and took a closer look. It turned out to be a person painted in the mural on the wall. One of his eyes was reflecting light, which scared Ye Shuning.

Ye Shuning looked at the eye carefully. If you didn't look closely, it would be no different from the other eye. But when you shone a flashlight on it, you would find the difference.

Ye Shuning looked for a while and then stretched out her finger to press the place where the eye should be. Then the eye sank in. Then a door appeared on the wall. The stone door was integrated with the mural on the wall and was difficult to find.

Ye Shuning carefully pushed open the stone door. She did not enter immediately because she was afraid of the lack of oxygen inside and that there might be something dangerous inside.

She waited for a while and when there was no movement, she shone the flashlight inside. Ye Shuning felt her heart beating violently because she had made a bigger discovery.
