Chapter Sixty-Four: Looking at it from a Different Perspective

Upon hearing this question, Ellie glanced nervously at Livia, then looked at Yun Zhe.

Ellie's appearance puzzled Livia. Although she knew this vampire girl was different from ordinary vampires, killing another vampire seemed like a difficult task. However, judging from her reaction, Livia became less confident in her earlier assessment.

Yun Zhe keenly noticed Ellie's pleading look. He smiled and looked at Livia, "Gale is recruiting mercenaries and rangers right now. I heard that vampire hunters are also very popular. Aren't you interested in giving it a try? I heard that Lord Gale offers very tempting money."

Livia frowned slightly, scrutinizing the hooded young man before her for the first time. He was clearly trying to extract information, but with great skill. For the first time, Livia felt that this man was not as simple as she had thought. She suddenly remembered that when Caroline went to get the wine, he had called him "sir." Considering his words just now and the attitudes of others towards him, although he was a despicable scoundrel, he must be a person of status in the Paz family.

Livia carefully considered her words. "Being a hunter is more free, and with our skills, killing is too much of a waste. Oh, by the way, you just said you've dealt with hunters before. Which hunter did you deal with? Maybe we even know this hunter."

"Ah," Yun Zhe didn't expect Livia to turn the tables on him. He smiled awkwardly and blurted out a lie, "I don't know his name, and it's not a very good memory. He saw that I was alone and tried to rob me. We had a heated argument. In the end, I knocked him unconscious and ran away quickly."

Yun Zhe's words caused the three hunters at the table to collectively break down. They looked at each other, their faces filled with embarrassment. Indeed, there were some unscrupulous hunters who, relying on their superior martial arts skills, would engage in robbery, extortion, and other illegal activities when business was slow. If it weren't for the fact that hunters had genuinely eliminated quite a few vampires over the past decade, they would probably have truly fallen into a state of being universally disliked.

Livia coughed, preparing to apologize to Yun Zhe on behalf of her colleague, when she heard Gao's angry voice, "Which hunter? Where did you see him? Boss, he just wanted to harm you because you're an Aruru! Boss, if you give the order, I, I'll take care of that hunter for you! I'll... I'll avenge you!"

Now it was Yun Zhe and his group's turn to feel awkward. Saying such things in front of their colleagues, they probably didn't want to enjoy the drinks at the table.

"Gao is drunk, drunk... Please don't mind him, he was just standing up for our boss, he didn't mean anything else, he didn't mean anything else." Caroline was the first to react, raising his glass in an attempt to smooth things over.

“I’m not drunk,” Gao said, turning away from Caroline’s hand and raising his glass. “Brother Jerok, tell me, was it wrong of me to go and cause trouble for that hunter?!”

Jerok didn't reply, not because he found the question difficult to answer or embarrassing, but because he was still shocked by Yun Zhe's identity—an Aruru.

The reason for the shock was Gao's drunken words: a human, for the sake of an Aruru, was going to lead an army to wipe out a hunter.

What kind of Aruru could possess such power?

If Yun Zhe were a close retainer of the Pas family, or just an ordinary person, the shock wouldn't be so great. After all, Geralok is very clear about what kind of existence the Arurumen hold in the eyes of the Hunters.

After a brief moment of surprise, Livia looked at Ellie in shock. "An Aruruman? An Aruruman? You actually fell for an Aruruman, and might even have slept with him?!" She just stared at Ellie, knowing Ellie could see through her thoughts, so her silence spoke volumes, bombarding Ellie's mind. Finally, Livia's eyes gleamed, and she uttered a rather harsh "Huh?"

Ellie blushed and lowered her head, her silence speaking volumes.

Livia clutched her forehead, slumping into her chair in despair. At that moment, she was utterly disappointed in her best friend.

"When...when were you robbed by the hunters?" Jiali leaned forward and asked softly. She wasn't particularly shocked that Yun Zhe was an Aruru; she had no prejudice against Aruru, and even felt sorry for them. However, she knew that there were a few hunters in Jialai who particularly enjoyed bullying Aruru, and she had always punished such behavior severely. Her question was simply a hope that those people weren't hunters from Jialai. Of course, she couldn't punish them now, but if they weren't, she would feel better.

Yun Zhe narrowed his eyes, looked at Jia Li, and slightly curled his lips. "I can't remember clearly, I only remember it was near Jia Lai, and there had just been a heavy rain a few days ago... the ground wasn't completely dry yet..."

Carrie slumped into a chair, exhausted. The vicinity of Garai City was enough. She naturally thought of the operation that had led to their total annihilation, of Ben's corpse in the carriage, and of the horrific scene in the woods—all of this had occurred shortly after a heavy rain.

"Are you an Aruru?" Jerok asked cautiously. Caroline was somewhat displeased by Jerok's tone and expression; he understood perfectly well the hunter's expression and the subtext of his question.

"When you arrived, did you see the refugees outside the castle?" Jerok felt it was necessary to let these unsophisticated hunters know just how remarkable our Lord Yun Zhe really is.

Jerok and Livia exchanged a glance. They had indeed noticed, but describing the people outside the city as refugees was perhaps a bit inappropriate. After all, they didn't look like refugees at all; they looked more like local residents who simply hadn't moved into the castle.

"Are you sure they are refugees?" Carrie asked bluntly, voicing her doubts.

Caroline's lips curled into a smile, and he gave a soft snort, as if a child were showing off his most treasured possession. "You wouldn't believe it, would you? This is all thanks to our Lord Yun Zhe. Almost all the refugees..."

"That's enough, Caroline, you've had too much to drink," Yun Zhe interrupted Caroline's spellcasting. He was also a bit drunk and his reactions were a little slow; he hadn't stopped Caroline in time, and trying to stop him now would have backfired.

For example, in Rivia's mind, her opinion of this Aruru man changed slightly for a moment. Although she still felt he was not good enough for Ellie.

But Gerald, having spent time in the royal palace, understood the meaning of Carolingian's half-spoken sentence even better. Refugees had always been the most troublesome group for rulers in the Western Continent. They had always dealt with them through methods like forceful expulsion and polite farewells. No one had ever been known to have successfully settled refugees within their city walls. At least, in Gerald's knowledge, no one had.

Jiali's mouth dropped open. Her father especially liked to ramble on about politics and war when he was drunk. After hearing it so many times, she naturally understood what a great thing Yun Zhe had done.

Jerok raised his glass, gesturing to Yun Zhe. He genuinely admired Yun Zhe at this moment, regardless of race or politics.
