Sixty-three Ellie's Hunter Friend

“But wait, how could Ellie be a vampire…” Carrie quickly found the flaw in her thinking. “If she’s not a vampire, then naturally…” Carrie chuckled self-deprecatingly at her own absurd idea. Her agitated emotions instantly calmed down.

Even more turbulent than Jia Li's were Yun Zhe and Ellie. Yun Zhe never expected to be exposed because of this, while Ellie began to regret her decision to sit down and drink with them. Fortunately, it was a false alarm, and the young girl eventually came to her own conclusion; otherwise, she really didn't know how she would have ended up in such a mess.

Ellie glared at Yun Zhe, her eyes filled with a mixture of anger and tenderness that melted Jia Li's heart. Under that gaze, Jia Li suddenly realized she had been a bit too sensitive. Perhaps she had been too eager to achieve something from this operation.

Livia was confused by Yun Zhe's actions. She hadn't noticed Ellie's change in demeanor; she was only focused on Yun Zhe. She had expected him to become more shameless and stingy upon hearing that they were paying, but the opposite was true. This smooth-talking reaction only diminished Livia's opinion of him further. She disliked men who were smooth-talking and opportunistic. All three of the characteristics she hated most in men were now present.

Livia gave a slight, cold smile, accepting Yun Zhe's offer. But she was determined to properly advise Ellie; in her experience, this kind of man was a scumbag and should be completely avoided. Although she knew Ellie was a vampire much older than herself, she was confident she could be Ellie's mentor when it came to matters of the heart.

"You're from Bahrain. Well, something big happened in Bahrain recently. I... I heard that dozens of vampires were killed overnight. Congratulations..." Gao said, somewhat drunk, what he thought were compliments, but they only made the three hunters' faces turn black.

They knew about Bahrain's resounding victory, but it had nothing to do with them. For these three hunters, it was certainly not a glorious achievement. If their opponents were fellow hunters, they could have been blatantly humiliated.

The atmosphere at the table instantly turned cold.

Although Gao was drunk, he instinctively shut his mouth and did not continue speaking.

“There was a victory in Bahrain, but unfortunately, it wasn’t us,” Jerok sighed. “We were out there; others took care of those vampires for us.” For a hunter, this was truly a hard fact to accept. It was like the entire police force being mobilized to catch a thief, only to have the police station broken into instead. Even though the thief was eventually brought to justice and dutifully tied and hung from the rafters of the police station, what was there for the police to be happy about?

"Although you didn't do it, eliminating the vampires is a good thing. Have you found the people who killed the vampires?" Caroline sensed the awkward atmosphere and began to change the subject.

"We didn't find them, but we do know that those vampires were killed while hunting the Aruru people. We were all outside at the time and didn't come back in time."

"It must have been because you left that the main force of the Aluru people was targeted by the vampires. But speaking of those Aluru people, they are so determined to build a country, but I feel that they don't seem to have much hope." Gao, his eyes glazed with drunkenness, took over the conversation.

Caroline glanced at Yun Zhe and, seeing that Yun Zhe didn't show any displeasure but rather seemed quite interested, ignored Gao's drunken ramblings. Sure enough, no matter what you do, national affairs are always the best topic of conversation for middle-aged men. Gao changed the subject, bringing up the recent establishment of a nation by the Aluru people, instantly igniting the atmosphere at the table. Gao was pessimistic about the establishment of a nation, while Caroline was optimistic, and Jelock said that without a good opportunity, even if a nation was established, it wouldn't last long.

The three men each had their own version of events, and each spoke with great conviction.

Carrie listened to the grand pronouncements with a blank expression. She sipped her beer, her attention mostly focused on the flirtatious glances between Yun Zhe and Ellie, and on Caroline across from her.

Livia noticed the awkward, almost guilty expressions on Ellie and Yunzhe's faces when they mentioned the Balin vampires. Suddenly, a bold guess formed in her mind, and she whispered a question to Ellie.

"You didn't kill the vampires in Bahrain, did you?"
