It seems that no matter the world, humanity's fear of fire is the same.
In a dimly lit world, a sudden burst of raging flames is indeed awe-inspiring.
Flames shot into the sky, and soldiers from both the Lunlang and Donic families were terrified, even those who were dozens of meters away and could only see the flames from afar.
Several shields of the armored formation burst into flames. The soldiers discarded their shields, but in the firelight, they became prime targets. Soon, the entire armored formation was destroyed. The fire, spears, crossbow bolts, and humanity's fear of fire itself utterly crushed the soldiers.
They fled from the gap in a panic, running haphazardly. But few managed to escape successfully.
Caroline saw a fully armed knight shouting "Stay calm! Stay calm!" but was shoved to the ground by his own soldiers and then shot in the thigh by an arrow, collapsing to the ground completely unable to get up.
"Capture him, alive!" Caroline understood the man's value without much thought.
But the fire stopped him and his soldiers.
On the other side, Gao, who was in charge, excitedly shouted, "Kill him! Don't let him get away!"
Human beings experience joys and sorrows differently, let alone when dealing with a defeated army.
"Damn it!" Caroline cursed bitterly. Fortunately, it seemed no one on the other side wanted to take him with them. In fact, those who most wanted to take him were already lying on the ground. Ironically, his most loyal men had fallen in the first wave, wounded by arrows for him. Yet, his own soldiers wanted him dead. And they succeeded. Because Gao, who also realized the knight's value, had ordered his soldiers to kill him at all costs.
The knight grabbed a large shield and held it in front of him, but it was of little use. Countless arrows rained down on him as if they were free. After dozens of arrows, the shield was finally pierced, pinning him firmly to the ground.
Gao let out a triumphant cheer, while Caroline let out an equally loud wail.
Night fell over the land, and the tide of soldiers that had surged in that afternoon receded as if it were time to retreat.
This was a complete defeat. Both the Tra and Ars families lost over a hundred men. The Lunlang family, which was leading the attack, suffered over three hundred casualties, more than half of whom fell at the breach. But even more devastating than the soldiers' losses was the death of one man: the second son of the Lunlang family, Gosarunlang, who fell there forever.
Adam stood at the tent entrance, watching the soldiers run back, but one person he knew best was missing.
Adam froze for a moment, then a wave of immense regret washed over him, quickly turning into fear. He covered his face in terror, burying his head deep in his chest. His mind was filled with the enormous losses this failure would bring him.
His father's support, his third brother's mockery, his sister's scolding... He lost not only a brother, but also a complete defeat in the right of succession... Thinking of this, he became even more frantic.
But stay calm and don't panic. Think about what kind of reaction will help you get out of this predicament.
Adam's mind raced, but it was all far beyond his comprehension. He truly couldn't imagine how to face such a horrific situation.
He never imagined the attack on Donic would fail, much less that his brother would die on the battlefield. This was not what he wanted.
"Should we continue fighting?" Adam wondered to himself. Looking at the soldiers' expressions, he felt there was no chance today.
"Damn it, what should we do?" Adam gritted his teeth, looking at the bewildered generals, and walked towards the generals who had put him in danger.
