Everyone was happy that Usha was found, but the fact that she was rescued by the elf's white tiger knight, also known as the jungle runner, made them less happy.
Each person, lost in their own thoughts, lay down on the haystack. No one spoke, and no one snored. They remained silent until the first light of dawn appeared on the horizon.
Encountering elves surprised Yun Zhe, considering how far they were from the border. The presence of elven jungle warriors even here suggested that the elves' ambitions might extend beyond simply reclaiming lost territory. Yun Zhe rose, gazing at the sky outside the stable, his spirits dampened.
In his previous life, war had shattered the world. Therefore, Yun Zhe deeply resented the idea of war. The thought that he couldn't escape the shadow of war even after transmigrating here made him give a self-deprecating bitter laugh.
Perhaps war is the eternal theme, while peace is merely an embellishment in the long river of history.
Yun Zhe turned his head and saw Lorraine writing something furiously. Yun Zhe went over to take a look and found that she was reporting to Serena that the elven white tiger knight had also been discovered here.
Upon seeing Yun Zhe approach, Lorraine didn't avoid him. She wrote down the last few letters and began blowing on the ink on the letter.
Yun Zhe sat down, watching Lorraine blow air into him, and said, "Another war is coming, isn't it? This time, we're going to fight the elves?"
Lorraine didn't look up, busy with the letters in her hands. "Who knows? But I really believe what you said."
What I said?
"Regarding your advice to the Earl," Lorraine looked up at Yun Zhe, "I'm actually quite curious. You always seem to be able to make accurate judgments. Why is that? How do you do it?"
Yun Zhe smiled wryly. He certainly couldn't tell Lorraine that history was just a repetition of the past. But many things were indeed based on historical records, whether in the East or the West.
“I guess I think about things too much,” Yun Zhe replied.
Lorraine looked incredulous, folded the letter, and then whistled. A black bird darted into the stable like lightning.
“The pheasant is a bird that can act as a messenger, but it’s just difficult to tame,” Lorraine explained, seeing Yun Zhe’s curious gaze.
"Now, can we go?" Lorraine released the black sparrow and asked, turning back.
Yun Zhe scratched his head. "Let's wait a bit longer. If the vampire really leaves, there's no need for us to leave, right?"
Lorraine looked at Yun Zhe and was suddenly amused by Yun Zhe's expression. He shook his head with a wry smile and patted Yun Zhe's shoulder, "I understand, you're reluctant to give up this fiefdom. But to be honest, there's really not much to be gained from this fiefdom."
Yun Zhe touched his head. "It's all up to us, let's see."
Looking at Yun Zhe, who seemed confident, Luo Lin couldn't help but wonder what idea Yun Zhe would come up with to make this place even better. Unexpectedly, as soon as he relaxed, he was enveloped by drowsiness. He was too tired after a day without rest.
At the same time, probably because the sun was beginning to rise, the sounds of snoring, varying in volume, finally filled the air.
Yun Zhe carefully left the stable and walked to the village entrance, watching the villagers begin their day's work. They had clearly slept well the night before. This surprised Yun Zhe somewhat, but he didn't dwell on it, because a huge four-horse carriage had arrived as promised.
Inside the carriage were Hamelin and two others who had finalized their cooperation with Yun Zhe the previous night.
When Debini, the driver, saw Yun Zhe, his hand trembled slightly. He drove the carriage closer to Yun Zhe, removed his hat, and bowed as if he didn't recognize him.
Yun Zhe nodded and, under everyone's watchful eyes, stepped forward to talk to Debbini.
To outsiders, the two sides appeared to be having a polite and friendly conversation. In reality, however, Yun Zhe was simply repeating the conditions from the previous night. Debini nodded repeatedly, and Yun Zhe smiled with satisfaction.
By this time, a larger and larger crowd had gathered. Even the village chief was alerted and slowly walked over.
"Ah, Lord Yun Zhe, what's going on?"
Yun Zhe helped the old man slowly approach the carriage, saying as they walked, "They are just passing through. Their businesses in Dorin were seized by competitors, so they had no choice but to head to Donic City. They heard there are vampires roaming the area, so they decided to stay in our village temporarily."
The old man nodded, indicating his understanding. Such things are indeed all too common in big cities.
"But they have no place to stay here..."
"Aren't there any vacant houses?"
The old man smiled bitterly, "There are some, but they are all dilapidated houses without roofs."
"That's good enough. Let them figure it out themselves."
A commotion suddenly erupted near the carriage. Yun Zhe looked over and saw that Hamelin had emerged. Dressed in black gauze, she looked slightly disheveled, but her noblewomanly air and elegance completely captivated the surrounding soldiers and villagers.
Yun Zhe was speechless at the soldiers' reaction. Looking at the hungry expressions on their faces, Yun Zhe felt ashamed for them.
The village chief noticed Yun Zhe's face turning pale and then red, and his expression towards his soldiers gradually becoming unfriendly. The old man coughed softly.
Yun Zhe suddenly realized what was happening and looked awkwardly at the village chief.
"It's been so long since we've seen such a beautiful woman in the village, it's understandable that the young men are all swooning over her."
Yun Zhe smiled and nodded, indicating his agreement with the village chief's idea.
"No, I need to write something disciplinary, otherwise these soldiers might really do something outrageous," Yun Zhe thought to himself, looking at the soldiers who were enthusiastically surrounding the carriage.
Perhaps intentionally, Hamelin chose a room near the stables, which was also the largest empty room in the village. This pained Yun Zhe greatly; he had actually already chosen the room, but since they were guests, he gave it to Hamelin.
Hamelin, having just won a point, was oblivious to the fact that he had won back a point. However, he did feel the enthusiasm of Yun Zhe's soldiers. The house had three rooms, and the roof was damaged. But Hamelin merely frowned slightly at the house, and Yun Zhe's soldiers were already yelling and rushing to repair the roof and windows. Hamelin was secretly overjoyed.
When Ellie brought Usa out, she witnessed this scene. Ellie looked at Yun Zhe with some surprise, her eyes full of questions.
Yun Zhe glanced at Usa and told her to go back to the carriage to get her book. Then he quickly told Ellie about the cooperation he had discussed with Hamelin the night before.
Ellie looked at Debbini, who was working with the soldiers in the distance, and Hamelin, who was standing to the side. "Are these the two vampires?"
Yun Zhe nodded. "There's another one in the carriage, a female elf vampire."
Ellie looked around. "Three? Are you confident?"
Yun Zhe nodded.
In the carriage in the distance, Akdina watched Yun Zhe and Ellie whispering to each other through the gauze window.
