Jiali and her two companions agreed, much to the shop owner's delight. Since both sides were in agreement, there was no need for formalities. So the three of them followed the owner over casually, exchanged a few words of greeting, and sat down on the other side of the table.
The three people at the table were Yun Zhe, Gao, and Caroline. Yun Zhe had given the soldiers a half-day off at the end of the month. No sooner had he finished speaking than the two captains of the hundred-man squad pulled him back to the tavern.
When Carrie arrived, they had already had a few drinks. Gao noticed that the two girls sitting down were very pretty. His eyes lit up, and he raised his glass to strike up a conversation. Caroline, however, politely raised her glass but didn't say much.
Yun Zhe shifted his body slightly, a little nervous. He could read minds, and he instantly knew that three vampire hunters were sitting next to him! Yun Zhe's mind was in turmoil for a moment. His first thought was that the vampire hunters had found him, but he quickly dismissed that idea with the help of the three men. Realizing they simply wanted to eat, rest, and return to Bahrain, Yun Zhe felt a little relieved, and his expression returned to normal.
So at the dinner table, Yun Zhe pretended to be calm, Gao struck up a conversation enthusiastically, and Caroline smiled without saying a word.
Carrie wasn't in the mood to pay attention to the chubby Gao. She occasionally glanced at Caroline, the handsome guy who had convinced her to come to this table. As for Yun Zhe across the table, he was still wearing a hood in the tavern, probably suffering from some serious mental or physical ailment; she glanced at him and then ignored him. Livia, on the other hand, was exchanging flirtatious glances and laughing heartily with Gao.
Although Yun Zhe was no longer panicked, he subtly shifted his body to keep as far away from Jelock as possible. This action, however, drew Jelock's attention.
"Excuse me, buddy, come on, let's have a drink!" Jerok looked at Yun Zhe, who dodged, and thought he was probably scared by his murderous aura. Jerok had a fierce look on his face, and he often encountered this kind of situation. While he looked down on the other party a little, he still tried to put on a smile and raised his glass to Yun Zhe.
Yun Zhe gave an awkward smile and raised his glass as well. The two drank it down in one gulp, their smiles somewhat stiff.
"Are you mercenaries?" Yun Zhe broke the silence first, pretending not to understand and asking. It would be too abnormal not to say something at this moment.
The three looked at each other and shook their heads. Hunters generally have their own pride; in their eyes, hunting vampires is far more glamorous than the fighting and killing of mercenaries.
"Then I understand, you are hunters! Hunters who specialize in killing vampires!" Caroline's words were startling. He definitively revealed the three men's identities.
"Oh, how did you know?" Jerok looked at Caroline, his eyes seemingly scrutinizing her.
Seeing the three men's wary gazes, Caroline couldn't help but smile slightly. "I've heard of hunters before, and I've even met them a few times. You don't have any obvious tattoos, so you're definitely not mercenaries. You're not wearing hats, so you're definitely not rangers. And dressed like this, you're definitely not those self-important swordsmen. But look at your equipment—longswords, giant crossbows—so it's easy to guess that you're hunters."
Jerok gave an awkward smile, raised his glass, and secretly mocked himself for being a bit too sensitive.
"So you've seen hunters before? Where did you see them?" Carrie seized the opportunity and asked curiously.
Caroline's face darkened, and Gao noticed, knowing he was thinking of his homeland. He patted Caroline on the shoulder and said in a loud voice, "He used to live in Donic, so you must have seen him there, but there's no war going on..."
Gao stopped talking when he saw Caroline glare at him fiercely.
The three hunters exchanged glances, and based on what they had seen and heard along the way, they all knew that this topic was not going to go on, so they wisely kept quiet.
"Yun Zhe, you really are here!" A clear, melodious female voice rang out at the tavern entrance. Everyone turned to look, and standing at the door was a blonde, long-legged girl—it was Ellie.
