Chapter 37 Reconciliation

Chapter 37 Reconciliation

Si Zhui returned to his courtyard, carrying the wooden kite. He had just hung it on the wall when Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling came in. Lan Jingyi, still holding a half-empty bag of preserved fruit, asked incoherently, "Si Zhui, I just saw Sect Leader Jiang leave. He didn't look well."

Jin Ling kicked him. "Just eat your food, why bother with so much?" He looked at Si Zhui. "Where are Senior Wei and Han Guang-jun?"

"In the quiet room." Si Zhui smiled and said nothing more.

Lan Jingyi's eyes lit up: "Just right, I brought some new preserves, shall we share them with Senior Wei and the others?"

As the three of them walked out of the quiet room, they heard Wei Wuxian's voice coming from inside: "Lan Zhan, look at my 'Unrestrained' move, isn't it much more skillful than last time?" Then there was the clear sound of plucking the strings of a zither, smooth and somewhat unrestrained.

Jin Ling stopped and said, "Forget it, let's not bother them." Lan Jingyi nodded and pulled Si Zhui back. "Indeed, judging by the situation, Senior Wei is probably practicing with Han Guang-jun."

In the quiet room, Wei Wuxian sat beside Lan Wangji, his fingers dancing on the strings. Lan Wangji's gaze fell on his focused profile, and the hint of jealousy from earlier had long since vanished, leaving only an unbreakable tenderness.

"Great progress," Lan Wangji commented, reaching out to smooth his slightly messy hair.

Wei Wuxian raised his eyebrows proudly, "Of course I do, and I don't even know who taught me that." He suddenly remembered something and pulled out a small cloth bag from his pocket. "Here, as compensation."

Inside the cloth bag were a few pieces of black and white candy, which he had specially sent someone to buy at the foot of the mountain. Lan Wangji picked up a piece and put it in his mouth. The sweet taste spread across his tongue - it was his favorite taste.

"You have a conscience." Lan Wangji raised the corners of his mouth slightly.

In the evening, Sizhui went to the kitchen to help serve dinner and happened to see Wei Wuxian busy at the stove. He was humming a little tune while stirring the wok, and he was obviously in a good mood.

"Daddy, what delicious food are you making tonight?"

"Lotus seed soup, your father's favorite, and sweet and sour fish, your favorite." Wei Wuxian turned around and smiled at him, "I was so busy chatting with Jiang Cheng at noon that I didn't even have a proper meal."

Si Zhui looked at his busy back and suddenly asked, "Dad, did you and father just have a fight?"

Wei WuXian paused, then smiled and said, "It wasn't a quarrel, it was just your father having a little temper." He dished out the cooked dishes and said, "You'll understand when you grow up. When two people are together, there are bound to be some minor frictions. The important thing is to be able to reconcile."

Si Zhui nodded, not quite understanding.

During dinner, Lan Wangji spoke more than usual. Although he was still concise, he would take the initiative to pick up food for Wei Wuxian and ask about Sizhui's sword training. Wei Wuxian would tell him some jokes from time to time, which always made Lan Wangji smile slightly.

After dinner, the three of them sat in the courtyard to enjoy the cool breeze. Wei Wuxian leaned on Lan Wangji's shoulder, fanning himself, and mentioned the lotus pods Jiang Cheng had just sent. "Come to think of it, Jiang Cheng seems to have come this time because of the water monsters in the south. He said the situation has been getting worse lately, and he'd like you to go and help."

Lan Wangji nodded: "I'll go tomorrow."

“I’m going too!” Wei Wuxian sat up straight immediately. “I haven’t been back to Yunmeng in a long time. It’s a good opportunity to go and see Lotus Pier.”

“Yeah.” Lan Wangji responded, his eyes fixed on his face with gentle indulgence.

Si Zhui looked at the moon in the sky and felt that it was particularly gentle tonight. He remembered what his father had said about "reconciliation". Maybe that was what it meant - there were minor unpleasantness, but it would quickly disappear, and then one would cherish the people around him even more.

The evening breeze blew by, bringing with it a faint lotus fragrance, as if it came from the distant Yunmeng, but it also lingered gently in this small courtyard deep in the clouds.
