Chapter 60
“You will always be with us, a part of us,” Maggie gently kissed the back of Bob’s hand. Glenn smiled at Bob, though he wanted to give him a smile, but it was hard for him to do so in this situation.
Lena and Daryl watched Bob from the doorway, exchanging only simple glances and nods, yet their words carried a thousand unspoken messages.
Neither of them were good at saying goodbye. They took one last look at Bob and then headed out, leaving the last moments for Bob and Sasha.
“Rick,” Bob called weakly. Everyone else had left, leaving only them in the room.
Sasha stood anxiously outside the door, and Tersey walked over to her and gently hugged her.
Lina was a little out of breath. She took Daryl's hand and looked towards the door under Daryl's questioning gaze.
The two walked out in silence. The outside wasn't much better than the inside, and Lina still found it hard to breathe.
Daryl gently stroked Lina's head, and the two of them just stared blankly at the woods.
A pit had already been dug at the entrance; Talsey had prepared it early on, for Bob's sake.
The saying "you won't shed tears until you see the coffin" might be too harsh, but Lena kept praying until she saw Tyrsey appear carrying Bob's body wrapped in a white sheet.
Humans are always like this; even in dire straits, they never give up hope.
But hope will abandon humanity first.
Everyone sprinkled a handful of soil on Bob. Tyrsey and Sasha buried Bob. She looked very calm as she tied a cross to Bob's head, while Tyrsey went to the side and began digging a hole for the ogres.
Meeting Tyrese was lucky for that group, but unlucky for Tyrese; kind people are always easily hurt.
"Pack your things," Daryl patted Lina on the shoulder. He knew Lina was prone to getting caught up in her emotions; she was still young, and that was understandable.
“Hmm,” Lina nodded. Actually, she didn’t have much to pack, but Lina still left the house. She just didn’t want to stay in a crowd for the time being.
Daryl glanced at Lina's retreating figure, then at the pile of corpses beside Tyrsey. Everyone had lost control last night.
Lina too.
That's not just killing; it's torture, it's venting.
Daryl didn't want to comment on the matter, after all, he himself hadn't stopped them. Those people were a bunch of scum, they did wrong and should pay the price. He didn't think they did anything wrong, but he was just worried about everyone's mental state.
Everyone loaded the supplies onto the church bus. Lina noticed that the map Rick had in his pocket had been blown away by the wind, but he didn't seem to notice. Lina thought for a moment but didn't tell Rick.
Morgan will need that sentence on the map.
The bus had very limited capacity, and there were so many people, especially these very large men.
At this point, petite Lina can openly complain that everyone is taking up too much space.
Those who are disliked are all men, who can only accept it, since it is the truth.
It felt like a liberated serf singing a song. Lina happily ran onto the car and chose a middle seat. Amy was sitting by the window, pouting, while Andrea, equally pouting, sat across the aisle.
Daryl, who was the last to board, scratched his cheek and looked around. He then decided to sit at the very back, squeezing in with a bunch of supplies, at least that way he could stretch his legs.
The bus, carrying everyone, struggled to make its way to Washington.
“I wanted to ask last night, but I didn’t have time,” Lina nudged Amy. “Did they really find out?”
Amy nodded. "I don't want to talk about this," after all, the car was so small that everyone could hear everything clearly.
Lina nodded, glancing gloatingly at the back of Mor sitting at the front.
Andrea, who was standing nearby, also heard Lina and Amy's conversation. She wasn't stupid, so this meant that everyone else knew except her.
After all, when Herschel stopped her from arguing with Amy last night, he implied that he knew, Rick knew, and now? Lena knew too. Andrea couldn't help but think that, apart from her, everyone else probably knew that that old bastard Moore had slept with her sister, while she, as the older sister, knew nothing.
Andrea was a little angry, not only at Amy and Moore, but also at herself. What had she been so busy with? She hadn't even paid attention to Amy's every move?
Lina was getting restless. She looked around, finding the tense atmosphere quite frightening.
Eugene and Rosita sat in the front. Looking at Eugene's back, Lina seemed to remember something again. This car will cause an accident!
Just as Lena was about to yell at Abraham to stop the car, the whole car started to roll. Lena, who was wearing a seatbelt, was being tossed around but hadn't been thrown out yet. The others were holding on tightly to the backs of their seats, pressing their bodies against each other.
Lina also heard Daryl's muffled groan, telling him not to sit down!
When the rolling car finally stopped, everyone was clutching their heads in pain. As the only one who had fastened her seatbelt properly, Lena was the first to recover. She immediately went to look at Judith in Rick's arms.
Fortunately, Rick held Judith tightly. She was just frightened and kept crying, but she wasn't hurt. However, Rick himself was cut by the glass.
Lena took Judith from Rick, who shook his head and then grabbed Carl, who was standing nearby, to examine him carefully. Fortunately, he had only bumped into things a few times and was not seriously injured.
"We need to get out quickly, the car is on fire and will explode," Lina said.
Daryl climbed out from a pile of luggage, kicked open the back door, and Glenn and he got out first to clear the way. Then everyone got off the bus in an orderly manner. Lena turned around and glared at Eugene angrily, which made Eugene shrink back in fright.
There weren't many zombies below, and the group dealt with them quickly. However, it was only then that Lina noticed the most seriously injured person, Mor.
His hand was like a knife. When the car started rolling, he deliberately pulled back to avoid stabbing someone nearby. In that instant, the knife stabbed him.
“We’re only 15 miles from the church, we have to go back,” Glenn said to Rick.
“No, we cannot stop,” Abraham objected.
“No, look at them, they need rest, they need treatment,” Daryl said angrily to Abraham. “What’s going on in your head?”
“I don’t care about you, do whatever you want,” Abraham walked over and pulled Eugene. Tara hesitated, looking at Eugene, unsure whether to stop him.
"Our luggage..." Lina was about to tell everyone to stop arguing and get their luggage first when the car exploded the next second.
This infuriated Lina. "Eugene!!!"
Eugene, who was being held by Abraham, shrank back; she really did know something!
“Hehehe, you can’t do this. We can’t send you to your deaths. There are no vehicles and no supplies,” Glenn said worriedly as he tried to stop Abraham. However, the furious Abraham pushed Glenn aside and continued forward, grabbing Eugene.
Rosita sighed helplessly, took her gun, and followed.
Glenn looked at Rick, who shook his head helplessly. Escorting Eugene was important, but Abraham's stubbornness was not necessarily a good thing.
“Let’s go ahead and see if we can find some medicine,” Glenn asked Rick tentatively, glancing at the three people walking away.
Rick nodded helplessly. He needed to treat Moore's injuries first. If they could find a car in town, they could continue on their way. Rick rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. Abraham was really giving him a hard time.
He is incredibly powerful, yet stubborn and opinionated. He seems to be constantly enraged, which could cost him his life.
Lena handed Judith to Tersey and went to Moore's side. Herschel gave him a quick bandage; the car accident had injured the old man as well. Beth was wiping the blood from Herschel's forehead with her clothes, while blood was slowly trickling down her own cheek.
Seeing this, Lina got even angrier. It was all Eugene's fault for deliberately damaging the car. Luckily, everyone was fine, but what if someone had died? What a bastard!
Lina angrily smacked her head. Couldn't you have remembered earlier next time?
Moll looked at Lina, who was behaving strangely, with some surprise. "I didn't know my injury would affect you so much? Let me make this clear, I have no interest in a woman like you with no breasts or butt."
Lina's face immediately darkened. "You..." Lina quickly retracted her curse, "Even if it's just you and me left in the whole world, I still won't be interested in you. Wake up, you bastard."
Lina glared angrily at Mor, then ran to Daryl and complained to him in a huff.
Daryl glanced at Moore helplessly, truly exasperated by these two.
Moore glanced indifferently at the hole in his stomach. It seemed he was lucky; he hadn't been poked in the wrong place.
Daryl and Lina removed the car door and lifted Moore into it.
“You look like a pig to be slaughtered for the New Year,” Lina mocked as she lifted Moore up.
"Tch," Moore was smugly enjoying being carried around without having to walk. He thought this little brat was just envious.
Seeing that Mor didn't say anything offensive made Lina a little uneasy, but thinking of Daryl carrying Mor from behind, Lina still didn't dare to provoke Mor.
This is so damaging to her image! What if people don't believe her when she complains to them in the future?
The group of dejected people arrived at the town's bookstore and set up a temporary rest stop.
Because the team had enough manpower, everyone quickly took on their respective roles under Rick's arrangement: finding supplies, patrolling, logistics... Anyway, by the time Lina and Daryl returned from finding the medicine, the place was already quite well-organized.
"Would you like some hot water? It's a toilet-only special," Tara said to Lina, holding up a cup.
"...Don't let me know this," Lina said, looking pale. Although she knew it wasn't scooped out from below, her words still made her feel uncomfortable.
Tara raised an eyebrow and smiled. She still handed the hot water to Lina, but this was for Lina to give to Mor.
Daryl handed the medicine to Herschel, who took it and nodded. Daryl and Lina didn't leave either, standing aside watching Herschel stitch up Mor.
Mohr felt a little uncomfortable watching this.
Lina clicked her tongue as she sized up Mor, "In ancient times, Guan Yu underwent bone-scraping surgery; now Mor has stitches without anesthesia."
Moll glanced at Lina with some surprise. "I didn't expect to hear you praising me."
After thinking about it carefully, Lina realized that this comparison was actually giving Mor a boost. "You got off easy," Lina pouted. But the scene was still painful to watch, so Lina hid slightly behind Daryl.
Daryl patted Lina's shoulder with his backhand, his eyes fixed on Herschel's hand movements.
Mohr's bones are damn hard; Lina didn't even utter a single cry of pain.
The nights when everyone is crammed into the bookstore are truly spectacular, since it's such a small space and you can hear everything other people are doing.
Lina could hardly bear to look at Rosita and Abraham; it was just... outrageous.
Lina opened her eyes in despair and glanced at Amy beside her. Amy was staring at the ceiling, clearly disturbed by the noise as well.
Rick took Carl and Dewayne out on patrol, but actually Rick just took the two kids and hid away. Carol was also with Sophia in the bathroom, where at least it was hard to hear anything.
Fortunately, Judith was too young and had already fallen asleep in Michonne's arms.
Lina scratched her hair in frustration, carefully skirting around the other people's legs, and arrived at the window, where Daryl was leaning against the wall, keeping watch.
"Can't sleep?" Daryl asked, glancing at Lina.
“It’s not a matter of whether we can sleep or not,” Lina said with a pained expression, leaning closer and resting her chin on Daryl’s shoulder. “I dare say everyone is praying that Abraham’s watch will come quickly.”
Daryl chuckled. He thought it was alright; it was just that Lina lacked self-control, since she had already heard Moore snoring.
And Herschel's snoring started too.
Finally, everyone could get some rest in the second half of the night, although it was still very painful for Lina.
Snoring, snoring everywhere, even Judith snored for a while!
Lena sat up resentfully. Everyone else was fast asleep, but she was having trouble falling asleep! Daryl, who had just finished his shift, waved to Lena from afar. Lena carefully circled around their legs, almost getting kicked by Andrea as she turned over, but finally made it back to Daryl's side.
"I'm never sleeping in the middle again," Lina said resentfully. She and Amy slept together and chatted quietly for a while, but Amy slept much better than her, leaving Lina alone surrounded by snoring.
Daryl poked Lena's forehead. "It's your own fault for always following Amy around." Daryl couldn't bring himself to say that, as if he were bothered by it.
Lina snuggled up to Daryl, nestled in his arms, and closed her eyes contentedly. Although her snoring hadn't stopped, her mood was completely different.
Daryl stared at the face in his arms for a long time before carefully covering her ears.
Although Lina's eyes were closed, she was screaming inwardly, "Daryl, how thoughtful of you!!!"
Then again, it's all for naught.
On another note, Daryl is so thoughtful!!!
Today is another day I like him even more, hehe.
With this thought in mind, and the incessant snoring in her ears, Lina's eyelids finally began to droop.
