Chapter 4 Mother-in-law has a high fever
Riemann's phone kept ringing, but he ignored it.
Because it was the live-in nanny who called.
She doesn't want to deal with anyone right now; her heart is in turmoil, aching, and troubled.
She just wanted some peace and quiet.
After the phone rang many times, it finally fell silent.
But a little while later, the phone rang again.
Riemann glanced at it; the word "husband" was flashing on the phone screen.
Riemann hesitated for a moment before answering the phone.
"Wife, where are you?"
The voice on the other end of the phone sounded very anxious.
"What's wrong?"
When Riemann opened her mouth, she realized that her voice was terribly hoarse.
The person on the other end of the phone paused for a moment, clearly startled by Riemann's voice.
"Honey, what's wrong with your voice?"
"Oh, it's nothing." Li Man cleared her throat and said, "It's probably a sore throat; it hurts a lot."
"How did it suddenly become inflamed? It was fine this morning. Sigh, let's not talk about this. Where are you now? Mom has a fever, you should go home and check on her."
"Um."
Riemann hummed in response and hung up the phone without waiting for Huang Dehan's reply.
Because she was afraid she wouldn't be able to hold back and start swearing.
She doesn't want to confront him directly right now; she wants to gather evidence of his infidelity before confronting him directly.
Riemann composed herself, took out a powder compact from her bag to touch up her makeup, and then got out of the car.
She checked the time on her phone and saw it was already 2 PM. She had been sitting in the car for several hours.
When she got home, the housekeeper greeted her anxiously, "Mrs. Li, you're finally back! The old lady had a high fever, it scared me to death!"
"How high is the fever?" Li Man asked as she walked toward her mother-in-law's room.
"39 degrees!"
Did you give her her medicine?
"I gave her some fever-reducing medicine and applied a wet towel to her head, but it didn't help."
As they spoke, the two arrived at the old lady's room.
"Mom!" Li Man stepped forward and called out softly.
The old woman slowly lifted her eyelids, her eyes dull and lifeless. "Manman..."
The old lady's voice was very weak.
"Mom, you have a high fever. I'll take you to the hospital."
As she spoke, Riemann quickly took out her phone and called an ambulance.
"Don't call, I think I'm about to die..."
The old lady said weakly.
"Mom, what are you talking about? Don't worry, go to the hospital, you'll be fine." Li Man comforted her after finishing the call.
"Sigh, why go to the hospital? It's a waste of money. I'm just an old woman with bones like this. What's the point of saving me? I suffer every day I live. I'd rather die soon so I can be free..." The old woman muttered to herself as she lay in bed.
The ambulance quickly took the old lady to the hospital.
Riemann also came to the hospital.
The old lady was a regular at the hospital; the doctors all knew her.
"The old lady's high fever has caused myocarditis, and all her vital signs are bad," the doctor said with a sigh. "You should be prepared for the worst; she's on her last legs."
After seeing the doctor off, Li Man went to the bedside and softly called out, "Mom!"
The old woman opened her eyes, her cloudy eyes looking at Li Man. "Manman, please call Dehan back for me. I think I'm going to die soon."
Riemann's eyes instantly reddened. "Okay, I'll call him right now and tell him to come back."
As she spoke, Li Man took out her phone and called Huang Dehan.
