My Alpha
The sound of rain grew louder, hitting the French windows like a dense drumbeat. Shao Wei stood in the middle of the bedroom, his face almost transparently pale, his eyes gleaming with a determination Si Qi had never seen before.
"Divorce?" Si Qi repeated the word, as if he didn't understand its meaning. "Say it again."
Shao Wei's fingers unconsciously tugged at the edge of his clothes, a small nervous movement. "I say, let's get a divorce." His voice was soft, yet sharp as a knife. "Anyway... I don't have much time left."
Si Qi felt a sharp pain in his chest. He strode forward and grabbed Shao Wei's wrist: "Don't say such things! I will find the best doctor and use the best medicine—"
"It's useless." Shao Wei tried to break free. "The incidence of this disease among Alphas is less than one in a million, and there is no mature treatment plan."
"Then try experimental treatment!" Si Qi's voice cracked. "I know several top pheromone research experts—"
"Si Qi!" Shao Wei suddenly raised his voice. This was the first time in three years that he had spoken loudly to Si Qi. "Don't be like this... Don't pretend to care when I'm about to leave."
Si Qi felt as if struck by lightning, and the strength in his grip unconsciously loosened. Shao Wei took the opportunity to withdraw his hand and turned back to packing. His movements were slow, as if each simple fold consumed a great deal of his energy.
"I'll move to the guest room tomorrow." Shao Wei said with his back to Si Qi, "The lawyer will bring the agreement next week."
Si Qi stood there, looking at Shao Wei's thin back, and suddenly realized that this always quiet and obedient person was withdrawing from his life. An unprecedented panic seized his heart.
"No," Siqi said, and then repeated more firmly, "No."
He took two steps forward, snatched the shirt from Shao Wei's hand and threw it to the ground, then, in front of the other's surprised eyes, he directly picked him up horizontally. Shao Wei was so light that he was shocked.
"Put me down!" Shao Wei struggled, a sickly blush appearing on his pale face.
Si Qi ignored him and strode towards the large bed in the master bedroom. He gently put Shao Wei down and then suppressed his struggle with his body. "Listen," Si Qi said in a low voice, "I will not sign any divorce agreement, and you are not allowed to move out of this room."
Shao Wei stopped struggling, a trace of bitterness flashed in his eyes: "Why? Pity me?"
"Because I love you, you stubborn fool!" Si Qi almost shouted.
Shao Wei turned his face away: "Don't lie. Three years... three whole years. You didn't touch me, except during the susceptible period. Do you know what people outside say? They say that the heir of the Si family married an Alpha just to cover up his tracks, and in fact he kept countless Omegas outside..."
"Fuck what others say!" Si Qi interrupted him rudely, "When have I ever cared about those gossips?" He forcibly turned Shao Wei's face, forcing him to look at him, "I didn't touch you because... because of damn respect! Because I know you were forced by your family to marry me, I thought you didn't want to!"
Shao Wei's eyes widened slightly, and his lips trembled: "Why...why would you think so?"
Si Qi let go of his hand and scratched his hair in frustration. "Every time I get close to you, you become stiff as a piece of wood. Every time your sensitive period ends, you immediately go to take a shower. On our wedding night, you stood by the window and looked at the moon all night..." His voice lowered, "I thought you hated this kind of relationship."
The sound of rain filled the silence between them. Shao Wei slowly sat up, his fingers unconsciously tugging at the bed sheet.
"I'm not disgusted..." he finally spoke, his voice so soft that it was almost inaudible, "I'm scared."
Si Qi looked up: "Afraid?"
"I'm afraid of falling in love with you." Shao Wei smiled bitterly, "How can a dying person have the right to talk about love?"
These words were like a blunt knife, slowly piercing Si Qi's heart. He reached out to touch Shao Wei, but stopped mid-air. "When did this start? Your... symptoms..."
"Half a year ago," Shao Wei said calmly. "At first, I just had occasional dizziness, but then my pheromones started to go haywire. The doctor said it was a genetic defect that caused a reverse flow of Alpha pheromones, which gradually eroded my body's functions."
Si Qi clenched his fists: "Why didn't you tell me?"
"What's the point of telling you?" Shao Wei looked out the window. "To make you say you love me out of a sense of responsibility, like you are doing now?"
"It's not my responsibility!" Si Qi stood up suddenly, paced back and forth in the room, and suddenly stopped in front of the bookcase. He opened the bottom drawer and took out a black password box.
Shao Wei looked at him doubtfully: "That is..."
Si Qi entered the password, and the box opened. Inside were dozens of neatly arranged transparent bags, each containing a dried petal or leaf. There was also a thick photo album on one side of the box.
"What is this?" Shao Wei couldn't help asking.
Si Qi pulled out the photo album and flipped to the first page. It was a photo of their wedding, with Shao Wei's profile perfectly captured in the moonlight. "Remember this?" Si Qi pointed at the bouquet in Shao Wei's hand in the photo, "The flowers you casually left in your hotel room."
He pointed to a small bag and said, "Here are the petals from that bouquet. I asked the waiter to put them away after you left."
Shao Wei looked at him in shock: "Why...are you collecting these?"
Si Qi continued flipping through the album. Every page was of Shao Wei—the cherry blossoms that fell on his shoulders as he read in the garden, the lip prints on the rim of his coffee cup (Si Qi had the photographer capture such details), the boutonniere he wore at the company's annual meeting...
"In these three years, I'll keep a little of everything you've touched, if possible." Si Qi's voice was hoarse. "This leaf fell on my shoulder when you stood under the maple tree for ten minutes last year. This piece of candy wrapper was casually placed on the coffee table. This hair fell on the sink when you were combing your hair this morning..."
Shao Wei covered his mouth with his hands, his eyes moist: "You...why..."
"Because I'm crazy." Si Qi smiled bitterly, "I love you like crazy, but I dare not say it out loud, for fear of scaring you, afraid that you will hate this feeling." He knelt on one knee beside the bed and held Shao Wei's cold hand, "Do you understand now? It's not that I love you now, I have always loved you, and I love you to the point of going crazy."
A tear fell on their clasped hands. Shao Wei lowered his head, his shoulders trembling slightly. "It's too late. The doctor said at most three months..."
"Doctors are not gods!" Si Qi said anxiously, "I have contacted a Swiss research institute that specializes in studying rare pheromone diseases. We will fly there tomorrow—"
"It's useless." Shao Wei shook his head. "There's no precedent for this disease..."
"Then set a precedent!" Si Qi interrupted him, "No matter how much money or resources I spend, I will never let you..." He couldn't continue, his throat seemed to be blocked by something.
Shao Wei looked up at him, his eyes gleaming with complex emotions: "Have you really...always loved me?"
Si Qi didn't answer, but kissed him directly. This kiss was different from the rough possession during the sensitive period, but gentle and firm, as if pouring all the love he had for three years into it. Shao Wei was stiff at first, then slowly relaxed, and finally responded to the kiss.
When they separated, Si Qi's thumb brushed the corner of Shao Wei's moist lips. "Is this clear enough?"
There was still hesitation in Shao Wei's eyes: "What if...what if the treatment fails?"
"Then let's cherish every day." Si Qi said firmly, "But we will never give up now. Promise me, give me a chance, give us a chance."
The rain outside the window had subsided at some point, and a ray of moonlight filtered through the clouds, casting a shadow on the two of them. Shao Wei looked at Si Qi's determined eyes and finally nodded slightly.
Si Qi felt relieved and embraced Shao Wei. He could feel his heartbeat, weak but regular. "We're going to Switzerland tomorrow," he whispered in Shao Wei's ear. "Get some rest tonight."
Shao Wei shook his head gently in his arms: "Tonight... I want to be with you. Not just to sleep."
Si Qi's body stiffened and he looked down at him: "Are you sure? Your body..."
"Sure." Shao Wei's eyes flashed with a light Si Qi had never seen before. "If it really only lasts three months... I don't want to waste another second."
Si Qi took a deep breath, carefully laid Shao Wei flat on the bed, leaned over and kissed him on the forehead: "Tonight I just want to hold you to sleep. When you get better, we have a whole life to spend together."
A touch of emotion flashed in Shao Wei's eyes. He reached out and touched Si Qi's face: "When did you become so good at talking?"
"When you told me you were leaving," Si Qi grabbed that hand and put it to his lips, "I realized that without you, everything is meaningless."
That night, they slept in each other's arms, sharing a bed for the first time in three years simply for the warmth of each other. Si Qi stayed alert all night, listening to Shao Wei's every breath, as if that would lock his life firmly in his side.
The next morning, when sunlight filled the bedroom, Si Qi found that Shao Wei had woken up and was looking at him quietly.
"Good morning." Shao Wei said with a smile. This was the first time Si Qi could remember him smiling in the morning.
Si Qi kissed his fingertips: "How does it feel?"
"Much better." Shao Wei said, although his face was still pale. "Maybe it's just psychological."
Si Qi sat up and picked up the phone on the bedside table: "I'll ask the housekeeper to prepare breakfast, and then we'll leave for the airport."
Shao Wei nodded, then hesitated for a moment: "If I become embarrassed during the treatment, or become unlike myself..."
"Shh." Si Qi pressed his finger against his lips. "No matter what you become, you are still my Shao Wei. This will never change."
Tears welled up in Shao Wei's eyes, but he said nothing more, just held Si Qi's hand tightly.
On the private plane to Switzerland, Shao Wei fell asleep on Si Qi's shoulder. Si Qi gently brushed his hair away from his forehead and vowed to himself: no matter the cost, he would keep this person. It wasn't because of his pride as a top-tier Alpha, but because—without Shao Wei, Si Qi couldn't even be called alive.
Outside the window, the clouds parted, and the sun shone brightly. For the first time, Si Qi felt that perhaps fate wasn't completely unavoidable.
