Tian boiled two large pots of water. Mrs. Mu felt that she had washed herself cleaner than a shaved New Year pig. She changed into the clothes she had washed yesterday, sat in a wheelchair, and was pushed into the yard by Tian, where she basked in the sun in a decent manner.
"The sunshine is so nice!" Mrs. Mu said and covered her eyes.
Tian put the beans she had picked from the basket in a basin, brought it to Granny Mu and said, "Don't just sit there, help with some work."
Granny Mu was picking beans while muttering, "What do you girls want? It would be better if you didn't win the five taels of silver. You have to borrow money for medicine and give it to others, and now you have to pay for rice and vegetables."
Tian was unwrapping the quilt and said with a smile, "If I had known this, I might have preferred not to have won."
They both laughed as they spoke.
Tian took off all the bedding on the bed and put it all into the basin to soak.
Mother Mu said, "It's going to rain this afternoon, so I'm afraid it won't dry well."
"Why is it raining? The sun is so bright." Tian stepped into the basin twice again.
This quilt cover hasn't been washed for a long time. It needs to be soaked more. I'll go to the kitchen and cook some food first.
At noon, Tian cooked potato soup, fried eggplant and beans, and steamed two egg custards. She brought the eggs from her home.
When Granny Mu saw the dish, she looked up and asked, "Why, is this the meal prepared for me before my execution?"
"If you eat this as your last meal, can you die peacefully?" Tian asked back.
Mother Mu thought for a moment and said, "If it's the last meal of my life, I'd like to eat some meat dumplings. The meat dumplings cooked by the neighbor last time were so delicious that I couldn't sleep well for half the night. I'll never know what they taste like even if I live my whole life."
"Meat dumplings are really a good thing. I feel greedy just thinking about them." After saying that, Tian scooped a large spoonful of egg custard into Mu Po's bowl.
