Chapter 4 Drought

She never expected that a team-building trip to the countryside would lead to a mudslide. The two of them were driving in front, and there were cars behind them, so they couldn't turn back. That's how they died.

I wonder if the new puppy at the company has kicked the bucket yet. If he also time-traveled like them, that would be great.

"Hmph, thank you so much!" An Shuyi said upon hearing the voice from outside. "I'll come see you again tomorrow, and we can talk then. It's not appropriate now."

“Okay,” Xia Hua nodded, having also heard the sounds outside.

"Then I'm leaving!" An Shuyi came out of the room and looked at the noisy group. Her anger reached its peak, but when she thought that it wasn't her child, she could only calm down and go home to discipline her own child.

"Boss, put the eggs there and go back."

"Yes, Mother!" Lin the eldest obediently put the eggs down and followed his mother away.

Looking at her obedient son, An Shuyi had a headache. How could a twenty-one-year-old be so weak and have no thoughts of his own? He was just like the original owner of this body. He was like an ox in this family, always working and working, with only eating and sleeping taking up a little time.

She wanted to ask him if he wasn't tired, since his brothers weren't much younger than him and could go out and play every day, while he was the only one doing the work without a single complaint.

But then I thought better of it and decided to teach him slowly. He's only twenty-one, and his life has just begun.

Back home, seeing the yard that was no different from when she left, and her three unfilial sons squatting at the kitchen door waiting for their meal, a fire ignited in her heart.

"Second brother, third brother, fourth brother, have you finished the things I told you before I left?"

The three turned around and saw their mother and eldest brother appear at the door. The youngest brother said with a grin, "Mother, we're not planting that land now. It's so dry. Let's wait for it to rain before I go dig it up."

“Yes, Mother, the river has dried up. It’s a long way to fetch water. I’ll go fetch it tomorrow!” the fourth son chimed in.

"What about you, second brother?" An Shuyi asked, looking at her second brother who hadn't spoken.

"Mother, I haven't eaten all day. I'll go chop firewood after I eat. Don't worry, I'll definitely be able to finish."

After the second son finished speaking, he pointed at his wife and continued, "Mother, if you don't believe me, you can have my younger brother supervise me."

"Hehe!" An Shuyi looked at her good sons, "It seems you haven't come to terms with reality yet."

He reached out from behind his back and slammed the wooden stick in his hand down on his unfilial sons. "Don't you have to dig when the ground is dry? What are you going to eat then!"

"There's no water in the river. Instead of going to fetch some from afar, you say you'll wait until tomorrow. Then don't drink the water."

"You're blaming me for not eating? You want your wife to supervise you? You want her to chop firewood for you? You unfilial sons, I'll beat you to death today."

An Shuyi struck them one blow after another with the wooden stick in her hand. Fortunately, the people here valued filial piety, so even if she beat them to death, they could only dodge and dared not fight back.

"Bang, bang! Big brother, open the door! Why are you closing the gate before it's even dark?"

Hearing the knocking on the door, An Shuyi stopped. "Get back inside now. I'll deal with you later. If you dare to run away, I'll pretend I don't have any sons and have the clan leader expel you from the clan."

After watching the others return to the house, he said to the eldest son, "Open the door!" The person who came in was the village chief's wife, Lin Liu Shi!

As soon as Liu entered, she saw her sister-in-law standing outside the courtyard and hurriedly went over to her, saying, "Sister-in-law, you're in such a state, why are you still standing here? Go back inside and lie down."

"I'm fine, why are you here?" An Shuyi followed her lead and walked into the house.

Liu helped her up and said, "I was worried about you. My husband told me that you were injured on the head by that shrew from the Zhang family. I came to see you, sister-in-law. I'm not trying to criticize you, but you should have some temper. Otherwise, those brothers will ruin this family sooner or later."

An Shuyi smiled slightly, "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on them from now on and make sure they don't cause any more trouble."

She will take good care of her. Since she has already transmigrated here, she must have died in that world. So she might as well live well in this world and cherish her life!

As for those rebellious sons, she will show them what it means to be disciplined and to teach them a lesson. She will beat them five times in three days.

Liu nodded, "I'm relieved to hear you say that. The weather this year is also abnormal. It's already June and not a single drop of rain has fallen. The crops in the fields are as dry as grass. Almost everyone in my mother's village has already fled."

"It's only because there's a ditch at the foot of the mountain in our village that we still have some water to drink. Otherwise, we would have all run away long ago. Sigh, my old man has been so worried these past few days that he can't sleep."

Her mother wrote a few days ago, asking if she wanted to leave, but the old man refused, saying to wait a little longer, maybe it would rain in a few days. But with this weather, there was no sign of rain at all. Most of the people in the surrounding villages had fled, but their village was still holding on.

Hearing her say that, An Shuyi began to search through the original owner's memories. "Don't sigh, wait a little longer, maybe it will rain in a few days."

Although she comforted Liu in this way, only she knew how panicked she was inside. She hadn't expected that there would be such a drought here; not a single drop of rain had fallen since the beginning of the year.

What to do? If there really is a drought, how will her family survive? It seems like God isn't giving them any way out.

"I hope so, sister-in-law. You should rest well. It's getting late, I should go back. These few eggs aren't many, you can keep them to nourish your body." With that, Liu stood up, preparing to go home.

There's a whole family waiting to eat at home. Although my daughter-in-law is good at cooking, she's a glutton and only serves the food after she's already eaten her fill, so I have to keep an eye on her.

"No need, take the eggs back for the kids at home. I still have some here!" An Shuyi said, picking up the eggs and seeing her out.

Liu pressed her down, saying, "Sister-in-law, just accept it. It's not many eggs. I won't argue with you because you're injured, or your wound will reopen. Sit down, I'm leaving." With that, she hurriedly left.

Watching her leave in such a hurry, An Shuyi found it amusing; indeed, people in ancient times were so simple and honest.

"Mother, dinner is ready. Can we eat now?" the eldest son asked in a low voice from outside.

"Let's set the table!" He placed the basket of eggs on the counter and went outside.

“You three brothers will do as I said before: second brother, chop firewood; third brother, tidy up the plot of land in the backyard; fourth brother, fetch water. If you don’t finish tonight, you don’t need to eat.”

Seeing the three brothers' indifferent expressions, An Shuyi continued, "You don't have to do it, but I will go to the village chief, the clan chief, and the elders of the clan tomorrow and expel you from the clan!"

"Don't think I'm just scaring you. I mean what I say. Even without you rebellious sons, there would still be people breaking pots for me in the future."
