She walked to the door wrapped in the quilt. It was really cold. Her hands were frozen cold just after she took them out. She peeked through the crack in the door and saw the Li family members eating with big bowls in their hands.
After taking a look, Tao Xiaoxi could see clearly that there were quite a lot of people in the family, both big and small, sitting in a circle around the table.
Although she couldn't clearly see what they were eating from this angle, she just felt that the bowl seemed to be filled with delicacies from the land and the sea. The sound of the food slurping down her throat and the way she wanted to lick every inch of the bowl clean were enough to make her mouth water, not to mention she had been hungry for a whole day and night.
She couldn't bear it, she simply couldn't bear it. The more she looked, the hungrier she became, and the more she listened, the louder her stomach growled.
Just as she was about to push the door open and leave, she heard Old Man Li's voice: "We have no money for medical treatment. If all else fails, just wrap her in a mat and send her back. It's their business if they don't want her, but she can't rot in our house. Her illness wasn't caused by us."
There was another sound of swallowing. This was probably the original version of eating the most delicious food and saying the most vicious words. Tao Xiaoxi had the urge to give him an injection.
Then Li Nanshan spoke up, "Dad, the person is at our house, and you brought him back yourself. Who can you blame?"
"Are you saying that it's easier for me to invite gods than to send them away?" Old man Li slammed the table and acted like, "I'm your father, what can you do to me?"
Li Nanshan shrugged, said "Don't worry about it", put down the bowl and walked over here.
Tao Xiaoxi hurried back to the kang.
"If you dare to interfere, I will no longer have you as my son..." Old man Li was so angry that he pointed at his son and jumped up and down.
Tao Xiaoxi silently gave Li Nanshan a thumbs up in her heart, thinking he was a man of integrity.
Who knew that just after she finished praising her, Li Nanshan pushed the door open and came up to hug her, scaring Tao Xiaoxi so much that she opened her eyes immediately. This time, their eyes finally met.
Tao Xiaoxi: I didn’t expect you to be such a beast in human form!
Li Nanshan: When did you wake up? !
