Chapter 23 Wild Boars Descend the Mountain

After finishing her meal, Yunling followed her mother-in-law into the kitchen and said, "Mom, I want to go to the county town tomorrow. The things my parents sent me should have arrived."

Zhang Guihua readily agreed. She was quite satisfied with her daughter-in-law at the moment. She said, "Okay, our team has an oxcart that goes to the county town. There are two trips every Wednesday and Sunday. The first trip departs at seven in the morning and returns at noon. The other trip departs at one in the afternoon and returns at six. It's at the locust tree at the entrance of the village. Just keep an eye on the time tomorrow. Do you want Lao San to go with you?"

Yunling shook her head and smiled, "No need."

"Then be careful, and try not to go to remote places," Zhang Guihua advised.

Liu Yun, who was standing to the side, had a sudden thought and tentatively said, "Mother, I'll go with my third sister-in-law. At least the two of them will have each other's company."

Zhang Guihua glanced at her lightly.

Liu Yun immediately said sheepishly, "I was just joking." After saying that, he chuckled twice.

Qin Tiantian couldn't help but laugh; how could her sister-in-law be so forgetful of past mistakes?

Yunling chuckled, and together with everyone, she tidied up the kitchen before taking the two little girls to work.

Upon arriving at the pig farm and settling in, they met Aunt Zhou on the way. They discussed cutting pig feed together so they could have company. Aunt Zhou led them through several turns to a relatively secluded place.

Aunt Zhou looked around and whispered, "I don't usually tell people about this place, so you mustn't tell anyone else."

Yunling nodded heavily. She had been cutting pig feed for many days and could clearly see that the pig feed here was much denser and greener than the pig feed in the places she had visited a few days ago. It was so easy to fill a basket with it.

Aunt Zhou looked at the two children, and Qin Tao immediately assured her, "Grandma Zhou, don't worry, I won't tell anyone."

Qin Yan patted her chest and nodded in agreement. She wasn't stupid enough to tell others and let them try to take it from her.

Aunt Zhou was relieved and said, "The old women in the team who cut pig feed almost all have their own secret places to cut pig feed. Only you few are stupid. You don't know to follow behind them and run around all day. Others can finish cutting pig feed in a morning, but you take a whole day."

She couldn't stand it anymore. The third daughter-in-law of the Qin family was in poor health, yet she was assigned to cut pig feed. Instead of saying anything nice or asking for advice, she was following behind the two young girls without feeling ashamed.

She glanced at Yunling with disdain; she was so frail, not even as robust as her daughter-in-law.

Yunling was bending over to cut pig feed when she felt a strong gaze. When she looked up, she saw Aunt Zhou looking disgusted.

What does it mean?

As I was cutting, I heard a rustling sound.

She stood up, pricked up her ears, and said, "Auntie, did you hear anything?"

Aunt Zhou straightened up, pricked up her ears, and shook her head.

"It's a rustling sound, like some large animal is fleeing for its life?" Yunling said.

Aunt Zhou slapped her thigh suddenly and exclaimed in panic, "Oh no, could it be a wild boar coming down the mountain?"

She listened carefully again and actually heard the sound.

"Ahhh, the wild boar is coming down the mountain!!!" Aunt Zhou's face changed drastically.

"Let's hurry down the mountain, and don't bother carrying the baskets anymore."

Upon hearing this, Yunling grabbed her two children, exchanged a glance with Aunt Zhou, and rushed down the mountain.

Just as they reached the halfway point of the mountain, they heard the commotion behind them getting louder and louder. Yunling gasped, "Let's split up and run."

Aunt Zhou glanced at Yunling, then ran off, her shoes flying into the air as she did so.

They didn't dare turn back to pick it up, and ran forward with their heads down.

Yunling ran for a while and then became out of breath. Seeing the trees ahead, she asked as she ran, "Can you climb trees?"

Qin Yan was also anxious and said dejectedly, "That tree is too thick, I can't climb it."

Yunling took a deep breath, grabbed Qin Yan with one hand and Qin Tao with the other, and ran down the mountain with her head down.

"Third Aunt, the wild boar is catching up." Qin Yan's voice was trembling.

Ahhh! That's terrifying!!!

Yunling glanced back and saw the wild boar charging forward like a small mountain, its tusks bared, glaring fiercely at her.

She dodged left and right, but the wild boar relentlessly pursued her.

"Third Aunt, there's a trap over there!" Qin Yan shouted excitedly.

Yunling quickly ran to the front of the trap, not even bothering to look back, and dashed forward.

"Third Aunt, the wild boar fell in!" Qin Yan looked at the wild boar lying on the ground and said excitedly, "Can we eat meat now? Hehe."

Yunling ran forward for a while, then leaned against a big tree, panting. She glanced back and saw a wild boar struggling to climb up.

She had no tools, she was just a weakling with two children, why wasn't she running for her life?

"Little Swallow, Yun Zhiqing?"

Yunling looked up and saw a pretty girl walking towards her.

"Sister Hanxiu!" Qin Yan called out excitedly.

As Yunling watched her approach, she quickly said, "There are wild boars over there."

She pointed her trembling finger at the wild boar in the trap.

Hu Hanxiu stared wide-eyed at the wild boar, then said to Yunling, "Let's hurry down the mountain and inform the militia. Maybe we can get our share of the meat today."

Yunling had recovered and, holding Qin Yan and Qin Tao's hands, the four of them quickly went down the mountain. Before they even reached the bottom, they saw Aunt Zhou leading a group of young men.

"Are the wild boars still around?" Aunt Zhou asked hurriedly.

Yunling breathed a sigh of relief.

With so many people, and some even carrying weapons, she wasn't afraid anymore. She pointed in a direction and followed the crowd up the mountain.

Suddenly, the wild boar from before lunged out.

Yunling's heart was pounding, and she quickly pulled the two girls back.

The young men all pitched in, their stones, sickles, and machetes flying up and down. During the fight, a rather thin young man was gored by a wild boar, and Yunling quickly pulled him aside.

With everyone's help, the wild boar finally kicked its legs and died, leaving the scene covered in blood. The young man excitedly carried the wild boar down the mountain.

The crowd behind them grew larger and larger, and an old woman with gray hair followed closely behind, carrying a basin to collect wild boar blood.

When they arrived at the team's compound, almost the entire team was there. Yunling took the two children to her grandmother's side and recounted the whole story of encountering the wild boar.

Looking at the excited Qin Yan and the unharmed Qin Tao, Zhang Guihua said to Yun Ling, "Thank you for your hard work."

In a life-or-death situation, a person's character is easily revealed, and the third son's wife is a good one.

Yunling smiled and said, "It's nothing."

She asked excitedly, "Mother, how many pounds can we get?"
