Chapter 69 Still want to elope?

Su Wanwan breathed a slight sigh of relief.

The original innkeeper received me when I was signing the transfer documents. There were ten servants and twenty-seven guests in the inn.

It seems that almost no one died on the half of the inn that was in ruins.

Lu Xingjian still had some humanity; he probably cleared out the people there beforehand.

She searched high and low, but couldn't find Xiao Bin anywhere.

"Where is Guard Xiao?"

"Two people were trapped in the fire, and he went to rescue them."

Su Wanwan looked at the eastern half of the building, which was almost engulfed in flames, and anxiously tried to stand up from her wheelchair.

Lu Xingjian pressed her back down, his voice cold:

"Don't you want your legs anymore?"

Her feelings for Xiao Bin were truly special.

Before the words were even finished, the window on the third floor, which was already ablaze, suddenly shattered, and a huge fireball rolled out.

The fireball rolled once on the ground after landing, extinguishing the flames and revealing the cotton quilt underneath.

The quilt was pulled back, revealing three people covered in black soot.

The tall man was Xiao Bin.

He was holding an elderly woman with white hair in one arm.

With her other hand, she cradled a tiny bundle in her arms—a baby who was crying loudly.

Upon seeing this scene, Lu Xingjian pursed his thin lips and narrowed his eyes slightly.

Similar scenes from deep within my memory were stirred up.

During the fire at Qingning Palace, he and his great-grandmother, Lady Zhou, were among those who were rescued.

Su Wanwan stepped forward, gave the wheelchair to the frail old woman, and took the child from Xiao Bin's arms.

The child's throat must have been damaged by the thick smoke; his eyes were red and swollen, and his cries were hoarse and broken.

"Is there a doctor?" Su Wanwan looked at the child's pitiful appearance and couldn't bear it, so she asked anxiously to find one.

Lu Xingjian supported her, his expression calm, his tone carrying a hint of concern: "The doctor will be here soon."

Su Wanwan turned to look at him in disbelief.

He's the one who caused this tragedy, so why is he putting on this compassionate act now?

The doctor arrived quickly, had someone feed the child water and wash his face, and then went to treat the elderly and the injured.

After handing the child over to the mother, Su Wanwan's eyes remained glued to the child.

A shadow of sadness crossed Lu Xingjian's eyes as he said to her, "Let's go back."

Her eyes clearly showed her love and concern for the child.

If their child hadn't been miscarried, it would be about this age now.

Su Wanwan's heart tightened.

He glanced at his guards, his eyes pleading:

"Let them go, okay?"
