Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Chen Yu was sent to the hospital in the small town by the photography crew, and Lin Wan stayed on the beach to complete the subsequent filming.

The sun gradually illuminates the entire city. Breakfast stalls open in the bright light, steam rises from wooden steamers, and the vegetable market opens with colorful vegetables displayed on the stalls.

Pedestrians walked on the streets, and the small town of Rukawa began to get busy.

The subsequent filming tasks were not heavy. Originally, they were required to take the photography crew to understand the morning market of this city. Unfortunately, Lin Wan didn't know Rukawa very well, so they could only squeeze in to shoot together on the third day.

Lin Wan was taken to the hospital to visit Chen Yu.

The hospital is not big, but rather old. The font on the hospital's door is made of metal, but due to the erosion of time, the exterior is dull and the interior is rusty. There are black marks on the marble surface brought by rain.

The photography crew told Lin Wan that Chen Yu fainted because of a fever caused by acclimatization.

Lin Wan followed the nurse to the ward.

Chen Yu has a fever, even though he looked in good condition and full of energy yesterday morning.

Lin Wan was a little surprised that Chen Yu had a fever overnight. She had no idea that his body was so fragile.

Lin Wan apologized to the production team.

Yang Enchang seemed particularly casual: "No problem, I'll include this part when the time comes. It's good material."

The photographer next to her pointed at the camera at hand, indicating that she had recorded everything.

The original plan for them to go to the beach together was replaced by a joint medical consultation. This was a different approach to the same goal, showing the deep affection between the siblings.

Yang Enchang still had to film a promotional video for Lin's Wood Industry, so they stayed for a few minutes before carrying the machine and leaving, leaving Lin Wan and Chen Yu behind.

The person who was full of aggressiveness yesterday now looks particularly fragile lying on the light-colored hospital bed. The porcelain-white skin makes Chen Yu look uniquely delicate, like a doll.

Lin Wan sat beside the bed, looking at him quietly, her fingers moving slightly as she stroked his eyelashes.

After Jiang Yuexing's death, she rarely went to the hospital. This was her third visit, the first two times also for Chen Yu. It was a very strange fate.

The reason for not going to the hospital was very simple, because from a personal perspective, she had a strange fear of hospitals.

Lin Wan couldn't accept the temperature of the hospital's incandescent lights, and thought the sound of the operating table's wheels quickly sliding across the ground was creepy.

To her, such a sound almost means the permanent death of a life.

Lin Wan slowly raised her hand and placed it on Chen Yu's forehead. It was hot, so the temperature must have been quite high. No wonder he was so quiet this morning; he must have been delirious from the fever.

But in order to keep a distance, I didn't notice it at all.

"Xiaoyu, why do you like me?"

Lin Wan placed her hand next to Chen Yu's infusion hand and gently pulled his fingers. His finger bones were very soft, just like the mask he was showing.

Chen Yu moved his fingers and grabbed hers with his backhand.

Perhaps because of the fever, the temperature of his palms was surprisingly high, ironing Lin Wan's fingertips.

He was mumbling something. Lin Wan leaned in to listen, but couldn't hear clearly.

Blood began to flow back into the thin infusion tube. Lin Wan quickly released Chen Yu's hand and laid his palm flat again.

And what about herself?

Will she like Chen Yu too?

That is a taboo emotion, just like Jiang Nuo and He Jiayi. Their emotions are not only faced by each other, but also by their families and the public.

——So, Lin Wan won’t do that.

Lin Wan made her own judgment. Her so-called concern for Chen Yu was nothing more than the love between family members.

I have liked Xu Su since I was a child, even though he has a girlfriend now.

But for her, that kind of emotion must include admiration and dependence to be considered love.

Lin Wan analyzed it with her brain, which had scored 142 in math.

Everything operates according to its underlying logic, and I believe emotions are no exception.

Lin Wan felt relieved.

The afternoon time seemed particularly tiring, long and idle.

Lin Wan pulled the quilt upwards for Chen Yu, thinking of reading for a while, but she was so sleepy that she fell asleep unknowingly.

It was not until the nurse came to remove the needle for Chen Yu that Lin Wan was awakened by the sound of their whispering.

Chen Yu's fever has almost subsided and he can go home to recuperate.

It was almost dark outside, and the last rays of sunlight illuminated the small town. Food stalls were set up on the road, and the air was filled with aroma and smoke slowly rising.

Lin Wan wanted to support Chen Yu, but he refused with a smile.

The two walked side by side, one shadow higher than the other.

Lin Wan couldn't cook, and Chen Yu was sick again, so the two of them decided to grab a bite to eat at a street stall.

While Lin Wan was still looking for the menu, Chen Yu had already ordered the dishes and picked up two bottles of iced Coke. His movements were very familiar, and it was obvious that he was a regular customer of this stall.

Perhaps he noticed that Lin Wan didn't like the cola he had last time, so he changed the cola for Lin Wan.

But Lin Wan seemed a little embarrassed. Sitting on a simple plastic stool, she subconsciously wanted to put her hands on the table, but Chen Yu stopped her and wiped them with a tissue before letting her do so.

The aroma of stir-frying over high heat was extremely strong, accompanied by a strong aroma of oil, and their dishes were served.

——These were the dishes that Lin Wan ordered during their first meal. Chen Yu remembered them all, even the yellow croaker.

Lin Wan took the chopsticks from Chen Yu. Just as she picked up a piece of food, she heard a voice behind her.

"Brother, you are here." Huang Qiangqiang's voice came from far away and it was obvious that he had been running all the way here. He was still out of breath when he ran in front of Lin Wan.

"What's up?"

Chen Yu put down his chopsticks.

He had just recovered from a serious illness and probably had no appetite, so he hardly moved his chopsticks.

"The day after tomorrow...we're going out fishing. My mom wants to ask if you guys want to come along?"

Huang Qiangqiang supported himself on his knees and gasped for a long time before he managed to get back to the road.

Seeing Huang Qiangqiang sweating profusely, Lin Wan handed him a low-quality paper towel from the dining table. Chen Yu took the paper towel and drew a new one for Huang Qiangqiang.

Huang Qiangqiang thanked him and said, "Thank you, brother. I was thinking of going to your house to look for you, but after knocking on the door for a long time, I realized you weren't there."

As he spoke, he chuckled twice, his slightly thick eyebrows raised: "I didn't expect it, it's fate, I still met you on the way home."

"Sister, do you want to go?" Chen Yu asked Lin Wan.

Lin Wan rarely traveled, so she was naturally not interested in this unexpected entertainment. She seemed so happy that she didn't even notice her chopsticks falling to the ground.

She opened her eyes wide and said, "Sure! Where? What time?"

Chen Yu smiled and handed Lin Wan a new pair of chopsticks, which Lin Wan took.

"Hiss, that's not decided yet." Huang Qiangqiang scratched his head: "Let's add the contact information and I'll send it directly to you when the time comes."

"Okay." Lin Wan took out his cell phone.

Chen Yu watched the two of them silently. When Lin Wan took back her phone, she said, "Sister, I don't have your contact information either."

"There's a phone call." Lin Wan said, not taking it seriously.

Chen Yu looked at Lin Wan and said nothing.

Huang Qiangqiang realized that the atmosphere between the two was not right and laughed twice: "My mother urged me to go home for dinner, you guys continue eating."

As soon as he finished speaking, he ran away.

Not far away, the sea water hit the reef, splashing up and then falling quickly.

The sunset at the seaside is particularly brilliant and romantic.

Lin Wan blinked slowly and held out the phone screen.

The food tasted good, but the flavor was too strong, so Lin Wan could only drink water to alleviate the saltiness.

"Sister, you like going out to play very much." Chen Yu asked her.

Lin Wan chewed the food in her mouth and nodded. She seldom went out to play before in order to focus on her studies. At most, she would go to some random parties with Jiang Nuo.

But it's a bit spicy, this lettuce with oyster sauce, Lin Wan looked at this classic Guangzhou dish.

Aren’t people from Guangzhou not very good at eating spicy food?

"Do you have anything to do tonight?" Chen Yu opened the Coke and handed it to her.

Lin Wan opened her red lips slightly, took the Coke and took a big sip, it was so cold that it made the root of her tongue numb.

She exhaled hot air in confusion: "Huh?"

The night in Rukawa seemed particularly quiet. After eight o'clock, there were obviously fewer people on the street, with only a few people occasionally walking out of the food stalls arm in arm.

On nights like this, the old street lights have too low a voltage and the light is very weak, only illuminating a small area on the corner.

"Where are you taking me?"

Lin Wan suddenly felt a little scared. After dinner, Chen Yu went out and bought some flashlights, mosquito repellent, wet wipes, and the like.

After it is completely dark, let her put on long-sleeved clothes and spray disinfectant before going out.

"It's almost too late." Chen Yu pulled her hand.

Chen Yu's hands were bigger than hers and felt dry and warm to the touch.

Chen Yu took her through the vast fields, with the chirping of cicadas and the moonlight, past the silent waves of wheat and the silently standing big trees.

On the lush hills, Lin Wan saw the tiny glow of fireflies and the bright lights of an old steam train roaring past.

The ground was shaking, and the sound of huge machinery running seemed to resound throughout the world in an instant. Huge man-made objects came along the railway tracks, carrying the breath of industrial development and billowing smoke from burning charcoal.

It is in stark contrast to the quiet mountains and forests next to it, and is a collision between modern industry and the natural environment.

The evening air was a bit chilly. Lin Wan stood there, watching the steam train speed past and sail off into the distance. The wind from the train blew her long hair behind her ears, sending it flying wildly in the air.

It should have been a scene of unbridled laughter and hope.

"How do you like it?"

Chen Yu carefully observed Lin Wan's expression. He presented the happiest scenes of his childhood in front of Lin Wan, like a kitten seeking credit.

A slightly cool but moist hand slipped into Chen Yu's palm with some force.

Chen Yu immediately held Lin Wan's hand and kissed it gently on his lips.

So, Lin Wan withdrew his hand.

"When I was a kid, my dad kicked me out of the house, and I found this place by accident." He spoke lightly of his experience.

"Back then, I was wondering what lay at the end of the train tracks, and whether I could ever reach it someday." Chen Yu's voice was soft, a subtle whisper in the summer night breeze. It was like falling into a psychedelic beauty.

"After that, I met you." Chen Yu pulled the corner of Lin Wan's clothes, his movements were very light and tentative.

Lin Wan woke up.

"Xiao Yu, this is not love." Lin Wan pulled the corner of his clothes out of his hand and looked at him with calm eyes.

“It’s just an attachment.”

Lin Wan tried her best to maintain her rational judgment as she spoke in a cold voice. She pursed her lips, closed her eyes, took two steps back, and sat on the ground.

The ground was a little cold, so Lin Wan held onto his arms, adopting a self-protective posture.

"sister."

Chen Yu turned around and reached out to stroke the hair by Lin Wan's ear, over and over again, his movements were particularly tender and delicate.

"Then you should also be attached to me."

Chen Yu took out a wet wipe and wiped his fingers repeatedly.

His hand slid down Lin Wan's cheek, pressed down to Lin Wan's jaw, and then gently pushed upwards, his thumb slowly stroking Lin Wan's lips.

"Sister, open your mouth," he said.
