Chapter 3 Chaos is a Stepping Stone

"And the funds for building the bridge, I think, are almost gone!"

"Look at our foreman! He just paid us our wages and then ran off to Tiger Head Mountain to pay protection money. Plus, those officials from the city hall came by a few days ago. I bet their bellies and pockets were bulging before they left!"

Joey expressed his opinion, saying he wasn't very confident about getting the job next month.

"Joey, if that's the case, should we continue next month?"

After hearing Joey's words, the bearded man was already planning to run away with his bucket.

"Why not? Even if we don't get two silver coins a day, we should at least get half!"

"Big Beard, you have to remember, when you're looking for a job, you have to keep looking for something better. Never quit your job without a backup plan before you've found another one!"

Based on his experience from his previous life, Joey gave the bearded man a piece of advice.

"Quitting without a backup plan? Is that another new term you've come up with? All I know is streaking!"

It seemed to be getting really hot. The bearded man sat up straight, took off his shirt, revealing his muscular physique, and the money pouch fell out, which he hurriedly stuffed under his buttocks.

"Big Beard, I'm planning to save up some money and try my luck in Baron City. If a major war really breaks out, the world will definitely descend into chaos, and this chaos will be the ladder, the opportunity for us lowly people to rise up!"

Would you like to come with me?

Joey stated his plans directly. Although the bearded man next to him was a bit simple-minded, he was indeed a good and reliable friend.

If we were really in danger, this big, clumsy guy would definitely be the kind of person who would rush to the front to take the blows for me.

"Baron City? That's the capital of humans. Can a Blackrock dwarf like me really go there?"

"Joey, I really want to go with you, but I'm afraid I'll cause you trouble when we get to Barron City. After all, all I have is strength; I don't know anything else!"

The bearded man was a little worried. He had just come from a small village to this town and had finally met Joey, a smart guy. If he were to suddenly move to a big city, would he be a burden to Joey because he was so stupid?

"Don't worry, big bearded man, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to do your work in the future!"

"Don't worry about so much, I'm here for you."

"We finally have a day off today, let's go to town and have some drinks to relax!"

Seeing the bearded man's state, Joey offered a word of comfort, but he knew that these words could not dispel the bearded man's concerns. Only fine wine could make him completely forget these worries.

"Great! I want to drink two jugs of rum!"

Sure enough, the bearded man's eyes lit up at the mention of drinking, and he probably forgot all the things Joey had just told him.

"Let's go then!"

Joey sprang to her feet, looking forward to a wonderful working life ahead.
