"Big Beard, wake up, it's dawn!"
Joey pushed away the bearded man's thick arm and staggered to his feet, where several empty barrels were scattered haphazardly, almost tripping him.
"Whoosh..."
Joey shook his head; the hangover from last night hadn't subsided, and his head was a little sore.
The bearded man simply turned over and went back to sleep, completely unaware of what Joey was saying.
"Hey beautiful, what time is it?"
Joey leaned on the bar and asked the beautiful proprietress of the small hotel.
"It's only six o'clock. Seeing that you were sleeping soundly, I didn't wake you up!"
The proprietress stopped wiping the bar, placed her hands on the bar, and spoke in a very sweet and melodious voice.
"Six o'clock? That's still enough time!"
"Boss lady, could you lend my brother a basin of water to sober him up?"
Joey calculated the time it would take to get back to the construction site from the town and figured he could make it, so he asked the landlady for a basin of water.
The proprietress responded, craned her neck to look at the bearded man lying unconscious on the ground, and then brought out a basin of cold water from the kitchen.
Are you sure this is your brother?
The proprietress knew exactly how Joey intended to use the basin of cold water, but she became suspicious of their relationship.
"It has to be confirmed, and besides, we're half-brothers!"
After saying this, Joey took the cold water from the proprietress and splashed it directly on the bearded man's face.
"Sizzle—"
The bearded man was immediately sobered up by the water.
"What's going on? What's going on? It's raining!"
The bearded man's drunkenness vanished instantly, and he blurted out something, then saw Joey squatting beside him, staring at him.
"It's not raining, but if we don't get to the construction site before eight o'clock, we'll lose our jobs!"
Joey spoke slowly and deliberately, even with a smile on his lips, as if he wasn't in a hurry.
"Then hurry up!"
Upon hearing what Joey said, the bearded man hurriedly got up from the ground and rushed straight to the hotel entrance.
"What a big, dumb oaf!"
Joey slowly stood up and followed him out.
"Joey, hurry up, don't be late!"
The bearded man ran as fast as he could, but he didn't forget to shout to Joey behind him.
Joey didn't reply, but instead climbed onto a carriage parked next to the hotel.
"If I have to run around on my own two legs to get a job, then I might as well not do it!"
Joey sat leisurely in the carriage, showing no intention of hurrying on his journey.
"Joey, I'll head to the construction site first and ask for leave for you!"
The bearded man turned and shouted at Joey, then ran energetically towards the construction site.
Half an hour later.
The bearded man, who had been running along the road, had slowed down. His linen shirt, soaked with sweat, clung tightly to his body, and he could only continue running at a pace slightly faster than usual.
"Big Beard!"
Joey's voice suddenly came from behind.
"Joey!"
The bearded man stopped, panting heavily, and looked behind him.
Joey was sitting leisurely in a wagon loaded with timber, waving at him.
"Whoa—"
The carriage stopped beside the bearded man. The driver glanced at the somewhat exhausted bearded man, then turned to Joey, frowning as he asked:
"This is your brother?"
"I'm not lying to you, he's my own brother!"
The groom glanced at Joey, who was human, and then at the bearded dwarf, his expression gradually becoming strange.
"My brother is used to going for a run after getting up in the morning, unlike me, I haven't developed this good habit!"
Joey gave the coachman an awkward smile, then beckoned the bearded man to come up.
Since only two people could sit in the front of the carriage, the big bearded man had to stay with the timber being pulled in the back.
However, he didn't care at all; on the contrary, he was very happy because this was much better than having to run back to the construction site.
"Joey, how come we ended up running into this carriage that was going the same way?"
The bearded man, sitting astride a large log, now had time to talk to Joey.
"I ran into this guy yesterday while we were drinking, but you were too drunk to remember!"
"I chatted with this man and found out that he was also going to the construction site today, and the foreman had asked him to deliver these pieces of wood!"
Joey turned to the bearded man behind him and explained a few words.
"Delivering timber to the construction site? Doesn't that mean we're building a stone bridge?"
The bearded man with his large head immediately sensed the problem and quickly asked.
Do you remember what I told you yesterday?
"A stone bridge? From now on, it'll just be a wooden bridge!"
Joey didn't seem to care. As long as he got paid, he didn't care what he built, as long as he wasn't made to build any imperial tombs. He'd heard that those things required the workers to be buried alive with the emperor.
"What you said yesterday? Was it about the Big-Butt Draenei?"
The bearded man tugged at his beard, trying to recall Joey's words from yesterday. But perhaps because he had drunk too much rum yesterday, many things had become very blurry, or perhaps his mind could only hold so much information.
"Draenei?"
Before Joey could answer the bearded man's question, the stableman, upon hearing the words "Draenei," immediately became interested as well.
"A lot of Draenei have come to town recently, but they haven't stayed long. Most of them have left by boat. But those Draenei girls have really great figures!"
When men talk about these topics, they usually talk about politics and women. Even two complete strangers can instantly become like brothers if they start talking about these things.
