Chapter 78 The Destruction of Saibanda Fortress

"Don't move, don't move! I still have a lot to ask you, so you have to hold on!"

Joey was pulled back into the bearded man's arms by Uriel, who told him not to get up again.

Uriel was badly injured, but fortunately he was still mentally alert and able to answer Joey's questions.

I learned from him that the fortress had been attacked two days earlier.

The tribal airships that arrived this morning were their reinforcements, which is why the fortress had already fallen when Joey arrived.

The tribe's attack was well-prepared. For some reason, the tribe knew the location of all the cannons inside the fortress. Their first wave of attack destroyed all the cannons, allowing the tribe's airships to reach the airspace above the fortress without any hindrance.

The airships inside the fortress were also their targets. Fortunately, some soldiers braved the artillery fire during the first wave of attacks and managed to board the airships, thus intercepting some of the tribes' attacks. Otherwise, the fortress might have suffered even greater losses.

...

After listening to Uriel's account, Joey felt a chill run down his spine.

From his words, Joey had already guessed that there must be a traitor within the Alliance, otherwise the Horde's attack would not have been so precise, especially since it occurred while Marshal Karp was not present.

But who delivered these messages to the tribe? What was their purpose in doing so? And what did they gain from it?

Joey had many questions in his mind, but the person in front of him couldn't answer them for him.

Ever since meeting Catherine, Joey seems to have gotten himself into some serious trouble; things involving death always seem to be very close to him.

"Where are Commander Zoro? And Sergeant Medes?"

"After Sergeant Medes returned from the last extermination of the kobolds, Commander Sauron assigned him to escort Lady Vivian away from Saibanda!"

"Is Vivian alright?"

"They should be fine. They left before the tribal attack, and Sergeant Medes escorted her away with six men at that time!"

"What about Captain Zoro?"

"After the attack began, Commander Zoro and several other commanders organized us to fight, but because the attack was too sudden and many heavy weapons were destroyed before we could retaliate, our firepower was insufficient!"

"After holding out for two days without any support, the commanders ordered us to break out with all our might. I was knocked unconscious by a falling shell, and when I woke up, Sam was right next to me!"

"Okay, I understand. Big Beard, you take care of Uriel. I'll go check on the others and see if anyone else is still alive!"

After saying that, Joey turned and left.

He also conscripted Wawa and Xiao Hei, sending them to check the corpses scattered on the ground to see if anyone was still alive.
