Chapter 22 Flattery Chapter 22 Flattery...
Chapter Twenty-Two: Flattery
If someone tells you they've never lied, then they are definitely lying. Like Linghao now, she says she never lies, but she's clearly lying.
Dongfang Bubai had been navigating the martial arts world for countless years, experiencing countless conspiracies and flattery. Could he possibly not see that Ling Hao was merely sucking up? Yet, when she spoke these words, she appeared completely righteous, as if what she said was the truth, exuding an aura of integrity that made one want to believe her.
It must be said that even knowing she was flattering him, Dongfang Bubai still found her words quite pleasing. That, it must be said, is a skill in itself. Since that's the case, he decided not to expose her.
With a flick of his wrist, the thread wrapped around the sword returned to his hand. Then, with a sweep of his hand across the hem of his robe, the thread vanished.
Ling Hao hadn't expected this kind of tactic, her curious gaze fixed on the hem of Dongfang Bubai's clothes. How could she not see the needle and thread? She was very curious—was it hidden on the outside or inside?
If it was hidden outside, how come she didn't see it? Putting everything else aside, her eyesight is 5.0, and with her internal energy as an extra advantage, she could see the subtle patterns on the hem of the garment clearly, let alone the needle and thread. But she just didn't see it.
But if it's hidden inside, wouldn't it "ambush" one's own flesh when walking or even fighting with someone? Or has Dongfang Bubai's martial arts reached such a level that it's impossible for him to get hurt?
Looking at Ling Hao, who couldn't hide her curiosity at all, Dongfang Bubai felt a sense of speechlessness welling up inside him.
After a long pause, he asked, "Have you seen enough?" How could Feng Qingyang have taught such a disciple? Could it be that he's been hiding in the mountains all day and his mind has become a little off, so the disciple he taught is also a bit off? Dongfang Bubai had a genuine suspicion.
"I've seen enough, I've seen enough." Ling Hao shook her head repeatedly and quickly looked away. Her clear eyes looked at Dongfang Bubai, "Senior, you won't continue to fight me, will you?" As she spoke, she sheathed her sword, clearly certain that the other party would not attack again.
She figured that Dongfang Bubai wore a veil when he went out, probably to hide his identity, so she addressed him as "senior" instead of "leader." Ahem, of course, Linghao's use of this form of address was also meant to bridge the gap between them and prevent further fighting.
Another soft laugh drifted out from the veiled hat, "Weren't you the one who made the first move?"
Linghao blinked her eyes, a hint of confusion in them, as if to say she didn't remember.
Dongfang Bubai chuckled again. He thought to himself that although Feng Qingyang's disciple was a bit odd, he was also genuinely interesting and quite adorable. If he had such a disciple, he would definitely cherish him dearly. At the very least, he certainly wouldn't let his disciple wander the martial world alone, and almost get bullied by others.
Just moments ago, Dongfang Bubai had been somewhat disdainful of Ling Hao, but now he felt that her master's lack of concern for his disciple was a sign that she was wandering the martial world alone. He had probably forgotten that Ling Hao had just single-handedly defeated Yu Canghai and his entire group.
"Let's go." Dongfang Bubai gestured for Ling Hao to follow him.
"!!!" Ling Hao's eyes widened in surprise. "Senior, didn't we agree not to fight? Why do you want me to go with you?" Her bewildered and somewhat innocent and aggrieved appearance seemed to be accusing Dongfang Bubai.
She used to use this trick to deal with her elders, and it always helped her escape minor punishments. After transmigrating, she used it on her master, the old man, and it always worked. Apart from that, she either practiced martial arts seriously or teased and joked with him. Life on the mountain was both boring and not boring, and Ling Hao was quite content.
Dongfang Bubai couldn't help but roll her eyes. "When did we agree on this?"
"Just now." Ling Hao's self-righteous manner made it seem as if the other person was the one who had misremembered.
Dongfang Bubai began to feel fortunate again that he didn't have such a disciple; otherwise, he might have been driven mad with anger. "I won't hit you. I'll treat you to dinner at the best restaurant in town. Shall we go?"
"Go!" Of course I'll go, why not? Although Linghao wasn't poor, she wasn't rich either. She felt insecure if she didn't have any money on her, so she was quite restrained with her spending along the way.
She'd never been to the best restaurant in Fuzhou before, and she knew the food and drinks there must be top-notch. She wouldn't spend money on a meal herself, but now a generous person was offering to treat her; wouldn't she be a fool not to go?
"Follow me." Dongfang Bubai turned around, leaped onto another rooftop, and continued forward without stopping.
Ling Hao, sword in hand, followed him up, stepping on rooftops. She stayed close to Dongfang Bubai, never stopping regardless of his speed.
Dongfang Bubai glanced back at her and thought to himself, "Putting everything else aside, Feng Qingyang taught Linghao martial arts quite well."
They arrived at the restaurant quickly. Dongfang Bubai requested a private room on the second floor. After ordering the dishes, the waiter left and closed the door.
Linghao sat by the window, outside which stood a lychee tree in the inn's courtyard. The lychee tree was probably quite old, growing lush and verdant. It was lychee season, and the tree was laden with fruit, making one's mouth water.
"Senior, I'm going to ask you something." With that, Linghao turned and went out the window.
Dongfang Bubai raised an eyebrow, thinking she was going to run away, and then heard her voice coming from downstairs, "Manager, can I eat the lychees in your restaurant? I'll pay for them."
"Of course, sir, feel free to pick and eat them if you like, as long as you don't waste any." The shopkeeper's voice was cheerful. "No need to pay, sir, you are a distinguished guest of our establishment, there's no need for money." The dishes they ordered in the private room were all of the finest quality, and he was happy to give her some lychees.
"Thank you." Ling Hao understood the shopkeeper's meaning, and with another flip, she returned to the private room through the window, holding a lychee in her hand. "Senior, would you like to try this lychee?" She didn't know what kind of lychee it was, but the bright red, heavy lychee and the fragrant aroma made her certain that it was delicious.
Dongfang Bubai glanced at her but did not answer. Instead, she reached out and took off the veil on her head.
